Fourth Shift Conference 2013 Class and Session Descriptions Class 1: Monday/Tuesday OVAR – Friend or Foe Claudia Sauve This class will explore all of the setups and transactions that impact order variances in Fourth Shift. We will track the life of a manufacturing order and a sub-contract purchase order through the internal and external work-in-process process and explore what OVAR does to evaluate these orders and how variances are calculated. We will look at how setup of item costs (ITMC), bill of material (BILL), item master (ITMB), product line configuration, and the various configuration screens impact the OVAR process and the calculation of variances. We will also look at the tables that store the OVAR variances which can be used to create reports to evaluate variances over a period of time. The class is intended for both new users and long-time users to gain a better understanding of this valuable tool used to analyze what is happening in key manufacturing and purchasing processes. Class 2: Monday Advanced SQL Programming Jason O’Connor Back by popular demand! This year’s SQL programming class will focus on using SQL stored procedures as datasets and how to effectively deal with Fourth Shift reports that are based on this technology. Learn how to use this more complex but efficient way of getting data into your reports in SQL 2008R2 as well as more advanced formatting options and delivery methods. You will leave this class with the tools necessary to expand your approach to reporting as well as the samples discussed in class. This class is intended for technical users interested in learning more about advanced reporting. Class 3: Monday, Hands On Fulfilling Audit Requests Lynette Motzko Do you struggle year after year to fulfill your auditor’s requests? Attend this hands-on class and eliminate the frustration! Learn how to retrieve audit-related information from your Fourth shift system and setup reports that can be easily manipulated each year to pull current information. Learn how to obtain Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger Trial balance reports in electronic form as well as how to extract manual journal entries, revenue-related data, purchase order data, accounts payable invoices, and inventory requests. You will leave this class with an understanding of where this information is stored and how it can be retrieved using Fourth Shift reporting tools. This class is intended for financial users interested in learning how your Fourth Shift system can be used to more efficiently meet audit requests. Class 4: Tuesday Electronic Document Distribution Configuration and Use Jason O’Connor Ever wish that you could maintain contact information for customers, vendors or even employees within Fourth Shift? How about automatically email key business documents to your customers and vendors? This class will take an in-depth look at each of these features from setup to on-going processing. We will start with the technical setup including the configuration of SQL mail profiles, how they fit in with these Fourth Shift features, and the communication that takes place. The next section focuses on gathering and entering the information from a business perspective and includes a detailed look at available contact and email features and best practices. And, finally, we will bring it all together with how to email of key business documents to your customers and vendors. You will leave this class with an in-depth understanding of how to manage contact information within your Fourth Shift system as well as how to configure the system to automatically email key business documents to your customers and vendors based on this contact information. Class 5: Tuesday, Hands On Extending Report Builder for Manufacturing and Financial Reporting Bruce Sharp This class will cover the basics of Report Builder 1.0 but quickly move to extending the functionality of Report Builder 1.0 by using Excel. Learn how to analyze data and write reports that may not seem possible using Report Builder such as lack of inventory usage to identify slow moving parts. See how to add costs to a report when costs are not available in the initial attribute. This class is intended for anyone who wants to expand their ability to analyze or report on data from Fourth Shift. Session 10: Manufacturing Myth Busters Many times in conversations with our customers, we hear… “but Fourth Shift can’t do that…”. This session is intended to “bust” some of these myths caused by lack of understanding of features available in Fourth Shift, especially many of the new manufacturing features in Release 7.40 and 7.50. See how these new features (and some old ones) can help your operation and maximize your use of Fourth Shift. You will leave this session with a better understanding of the manufacturing functionality availability in Fourth Shift. This session is intended for any user of Fourth Shift, but primarily for those not familiar with the functionality included in more recent releases. Session 11: Engineering Managing the rollout of new products and the engineering change process can save your company time, money, and frustration! This session will review the functionality available in the Engineering module and will cover how to set up engineering parts and bills, add custom fields, and how to use the engineering module to quickly and easily make engineering/bill changes. We will also cover how to use the workflow feature to assist in managing engineering changes as well as how to customize item master and bill screens to present unique views. You will leave this session with an understanding of what the Engineering module can do and how it might benefit your organization. This session is intended for anyone involved in the engineering change process or users of the Item Master and Bill of Material screens. Session 12: Capacity Planning and Labor Collection Knowing the capacity of your shop is crucial to planning staffing levels and determining customer delivery times and labor reporting is a key component in tracking costs. This session will show you how easy it is to do capacity planning either by work center or group of work centers and show the different methods of labor collection. Learn how to setup labor collection and the three different methods of reporting labor along with the plus/minus of each method to help you choose which might work best in your operation. You will leave this session with a better understanding of capacity planning and labor reporting and how to implement in your operation. This session is intended for anyone involved capacity planning or in monitoring or tracking labor hours. Session 13: Manufacturing Roundtable This session is an open forum and round table discussion on any topic related to manufacturing. Please join us if you have questions on the use of Fourth Shift in manufacturing operations, are looking for ideas or an answer to a specific problem, or have a unique solution you would like to share with others. You will not only leave this session with a greater understanding of Fourth Shift’s manufacturing features but it is also an excellent opportunity to meet and network with other manufacturing users of Fourth Shift. This session is intended for anyone in manufacturing operations. Session 14: Creative Uses of Lot Trace Lot trace can provide benefits for more than just medical, pharmaceutical and food-related businesses. Many other types of businesses are also using lot trace to track specific information about their inventory. This session will cover lot trace from set up and configuration to its use in day to day operations and will focus on how to take advantage of its many features to track additional information, especially the use of lot attributes and adding intelligence into lot numbering. You will leave this session with a good understanding of the Lot Trace module and some non-traditional ways to use it. This session is intended for individuals involved in tracking inventory. Session 15: Operations Performance Management Set your MRP planning parameters correctly and you can keep your inventory turns low without burying your buyers and planners with action messages! This session will cover the features of the Operations Performance module which include the eight key factors in insuring good system communication. See how to set goals and monitor results for key factors such as correct buyer and planner assignments, bill of material accuracy, and standard cost assignment. Learn how to use a tool to analyze, model, and set your Lot Sized Days to maximize inventory turns and minimize action messages. You will leave this session with an understanding of what the Operations Performance module can do and the benefits of using this tool in your operation. This is intended for buyers, planners, and management interested in setting and monitoring operation metrics.

Session 16: Cycle Counting Accurate inventory is crucial to on-time customer delivery and keeping inventory levels low. This session covers various aspects of cycle counting and shows how to set up and perform inventory cycle counts as well as track your cycle count accuracy. Learn how to use the screens and reports within Fourth Shift as well as the advanced cycle count features available in the Inventory Accuracy Management System (IAMS). You will leave this session with an understanding of how to set-up and conduct cycle counts and track your cycle count accuracy. This session is intended for anyone involved in tracking and monitoring inventory accuracy. Session 17: Sales Operation Planning Getting sales and marketing input can be difficult and frustrating, but it is a key input to planning your purchasing and manufacturing. This session will cover the process of Sales Operations Planning including how to assist your sales team in providing forecasts, how to balance forecasts against production, and the process for making business decisions on balancing the two. Learn the various tools available for reporting historical sales and when to use this information for planning. This session will teach you how to plan, conduct, and report on the Sales Operations Planning process. This session is intended for buyers, planners, and anyone involved in setting inventory levels, forecasting, or the planning process. Session 18: What can VisiBar Do? This session will provide a number of business examples of what can be done with VisiBar. If you are considering data collection with VisiBar or perhaps already own the product and are looking for additional ways to leverage it within your business, we will be presenting a number of examples of how VisiBar is being used by some of our customers and the benefits those companies have seen as a result. This session will NOT present code or detailed technical solutions but rather will focus on the business issues improved, resolved, or supported through the implementation of VisiBar. You will leave this session with a much better idea of the solutions that can be implemented using VisiBar as the platform. This session is intended for inventory control, order fulfillment, and materials management personnel. Session 20: Financial Myth Busters Many times in conversations with our customers, we hear… “but Fourth Shift can’t do that…”. This session is intended to “bust” some of these myths caused by lack of understanding of features available in Fourth Shift, especially many of the new financial features in Release 7.40 and 7.50. See how these new features (and some old ones) can help your operation and maximize your use of Fourth Shift. You will leave this session with a better understanding of the financial functionality availability in Fourth Shift. This session is intended for any user of Fourth Shift, but primarily for those not familiar with the functionality included in more recent releases. Session 21: Streamlining Order Entry Processing Do you have questions about the order entry process? Does your order process seem cumbersome? Do you have to look up pricing for orders before they can be entered into Fourth Shift? Do you have to wait for production to provide you with a ship date before you can enter an order? Attend this session to walk through the order entry process. We will discuss how to use Fourth Shift to price your orders and how to use available to promise to determine when you can ship product. We will also discuss how changes to the production plan can impact customer delivery commitments. In addition, learn of how to minimize disruption and approach order-related issues from a proactive perspective. You will leave this session with a better understanding of the order entry process and tips to improve your efficiency. This session is intended for users interested in learning how your Fourth Shift system can help streamline the order entry process. Session 22: Purging Data Do you get frustrated when you try to delete a Customer, Vendor, or Item Master record that is no longer used; only to receive a message the record cannot be deleted? Attend this session to understand how this data is physically related within the Fourth Shift database, why this prevents you from deleting certain records, and what ultimately needs to be done to delete the records. You will leave this session with an understanding of the purging process for vendors, customers, and items. You will also be provided with a checklist to aid in the purge process. This session is for anyone needing to purge information in your business. Session 23: Financial Roundtable In this open session, our financial consultants are present to discuss any topic or questions associated with finance as well as financial features available in Fourth Shift and Fourth Shift complementary products. Come prepared with your questions and be willing to share your expertise and experience as we tackle a wide range of topics. Session 24: Streamlining the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Processes Are you taking advantage of the new functionality that is available in the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable modules? Do your current processes seem very cumbersome and time consuming? Attend this session and learn how shipments flow into the Accounts Receivable module and what processes you should have in place to ensure that revenue and cost are booked correctly on a monthly basis. Learn how purchase order receipts flow into the Accounts Payable module and how the invoice process can be expedited. You will leave this session with an understanding of the financial work flow as well as new functionality that has been added to the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to help streamline processes and improve efficiencies. This session is intended for all accounting personnel. Session 25: Reconciliation Part 1 Is your manufacturing system in sync with the financial system? Have you confirmed that all of your purchase order receipts have updated the Accounts Payable Unvouchered report and that all of your shipments have come over to Accounts Receivable to be invoiced? Are your financial statements reflecting all inventory transactions that were processed during the month? Reconciliation not only indicates that the subsidiary reports (accounts receivable and accounts payable trial balance, inventory reports, unvouchered accounts payable) tie to the general ledger, but they also indicate that your system is in sync. You will leave this session with an understanding of how these accounts are automatically updated by the system and the common reconciliation issues that could cause your general ledger to be out of balance. This session is intended for all accounting personnel. Session 26: Reconciliation Part 2 This is a continuation of Session 25. Session 27: Rules Based Pricing Ensuring proper pricing for customers is an important part of the sales process. Attend this session and learn how to implement complex pricing plans by product, customer, or on an order-related basis. Walk through how to create actions, conditions, and rules that will be used to price your orders. You will leave this session with an understanding of how to implement complex pricing rules in your business. This session is intended for all users interested to learn how the Rules Based Pricing module can help handle more complex pricing. The Rules Based Pricing module is only available with the Sales Order Processing module. Session 28: Product Line Accounting Would you like to see variances by product line and/or by the various divisions/companies that you track in your Fourth Shift system? This session will discuss how product line accounting can be used to understand which product lines are making money for your business. We will discuss the setup of product lines, how they can be used to track various divisions in your company, as well as the segregation of activities by product line. Session 31: 7.50 Upgrade Recommendations Continuing on platforms that are nearing their end of life can expose your business to serious issues regarding disaster recovery, support, data security, server reliability, and regulatory compliance. Relying on outdated software platforms can severely limit your productivity through the inability to leverage new enhancements that are available. This session will cover the benefits of upgrading, platform and configuration options, and logistical impacts when moving to Release 7.50 from earlier versions as well as proper testing methods and reporting considerations. You will leave this class with a road map for upgrading from your current release. This session is for system administrators as well as individuals involved in the upgrade decision-making process. Session 32: Virtual Environments As virtualization technology continues to become more commonplace, the infrastructure and redundancy benefits become powerful considerations in your overall network planning. This session will cover decisions that should be made as you considering virtualizing as well as benefits and pitfalls. It will also include discussion time to share individual experiences and learning related to virtualization. Session 33: Technical Roundtable In this open session, our technical consultants and developers are present to discuss any topic or questions associated with technology as well as technical capabilities available in Fourth Shift and Fourth Shift complementary products. Come prepared with your questions and be willing to share your expertise and experience as we tackle a wide range of topics. You will leave this session with answers to your questions and gain new Fourth Shift user contacts in the process. This session is intended for system administrators and other technical users. Session 34: Configuration of SQL Mail Profiles Fourth Shift, as well as many other applications, are starting to take advantage of SQL Mail. Fourth Shift uses SQL mail for administrative alerts as well as the new document email feature available in Release 7.50D. One of the first steps to use these features is the proper configuration of mail profiles. In this session, we will walk through how to properly set up SQL mail profiles to email documents from specific users as well as specific email addresses. You will leave this session with the ability to set up SQL mail profiles in order to take advantage of the alert and email features currently available in Fourth Shift. This session is intended for system administrators and database professionals. Session 35 – Workplace and Device Integration This session will provide an expanded view of creating workflow solutions using the Fourth Shift Workplace product along with device integration. We will look at integrating devices such as tethered barcode scanners into Workplace to improve usability, allow input to be generated more quickly, and reduce input errors. We will be show how to quickly reference entire streams of input that can be played into the user interface. These streams can reference static command sequences or be built dynamically on-the-fly; input streams can be defined outside of the application in a database which allows them to be maintained and modified in a simple, non-programming fashion. You will leave this session with an expanded view of how Workplace can be deployed within the business and see how new functionality can be employed to create powerful, streamlined solutions involving alternate data entry mechanisms. While some of the information contained in this presentation will be technical in nature, this session is intended for people looking to implement workflow improvement projects and isn’t limited to a particular business role since improvements can be made in all business processes associated with Fourth Shift including inventory, financial, supply/demand, or others. Session 36: SQL 2012/Windows 2012 Changes Microsoft never stops and neither do we! Attend this session to learn about some of the changes that you should be aware of as Fourth Shift looks to add support for Windows 2012 and SQL 2012 in Release 7.50E. We will review significant changes in the administration and management of Fourth Shift system in this new environment. You will leave this session with an understanding of the impact of moving forward to the newest operating system and database platforms. This session is intended for system administrators, database analysts, and others in IT or technical roles. Session 37 – Workplace and Supplier Kanban Replenishment This session shows an end-to-end customization that was created to employ different elements of Fourth Shift data, present portions of Workplace functionality, and result in a useful tool for Fourth Shift customers – attendees will benefit by seeing the process, the pieces, and the result. This solution begins with the scan of a KanBan card for a purchased item which causes a release to be added to a blanket purchase order; this then generates an email to the supplier and the buyer about the release. We will discuss the assumptions this customization is based on and data elements that are used to drive the logic. While showing how things work, we will lightly touch on the mechanics within Workplace that were used to create this functionality and discuss this example’s limitations and opportunities to move this customization to the next level. You will leave this session with a thought-provoking example of how Workplace can be used to provide advanced functionality, and how you could employ this and similar customizations within your business. Session 38: Converting DVUD’s to Foundation Business Views Take advantage of the power of SQL Server for your data and reporting needs. Replacing your existing DVUD’s with SQL views and extracts is the first step in that process. In this session, you will learn how to pull current DVUD information out of the database, use a sample view as a basis for creating your own custom views, and insert your current criteria and fields. You will leave this class knowing how to convert existing DVUD extracts to SQL Server extracts to substantially increase performance. You will also receive a set of sample SQL views that replace standard DVUDs to help you get started. This class is intended for technical users needing to replace legacy DVUD views.

Session 40: Foundation Business Views (Hands-on) Accurate reporting is critical to business success. In Fourth Shift, the Foundation Business Views are the cornerstone of reporting. This hands-on session will give you the knowledge necessary to start building your own views along with information on how to access hard to reach information such as transaction history and user security. You will leave this session with an understanding of the Foundation Business Views and the available sample templates to be able to start creating your own views for your business reporting needs. This session is for all users responsible for generating reports from the Fourth Shift database. Session 41: FSTI Part 1 (Hands-on) Increasing productivity by simplifying the end user experience can easily be done with the Fourth Shift Transaction Interface (FSTI) software developer kit. This hands-on, two part session will work through an FSTI project which returns real-time data to VB.Net code and completes transactions through an FSTI interface. You will also learn how to use Foundation Business Views results within FSTI transactions to minimize errors from user input. You will leave this session with the ability to create applications using FSTI to streamline or enhance business processes. This session is for developers with some experience in VB.Net or other programming languages. Experience with Fourth Shift data import or recovery is also helpful. Session 42: FSTI Part 2 (Hands-on) This is a continuation of Session 41. Session 43: Report Builder 1.0 (Hands-on) Quick access to Fourth Shift data can make a difference in critical business decisions. The Fourth Shift report model allows you to quickly retrieve the data you need without having to learn the complex Transact-SQL language. This handson session will teach you how to create ad-hoc queries in Report Builder 1.0 using the Fourth Shift report model. You will leave this session able to quickly access the data you need for important business decisions. This session is intended for end users who would like to learn a simple way to access the Fourth Shift data that they need within their job function. Session 44: Importing Financial Transactions (Hands-on) Are you spending a lot of time on repetitive data entry? Are you keying in large journal entries such as payroll or financial plans and budgets? Attend this session and learn how to utilize Fourth Shift’s data import module. You will leave this session with an understanding of how to setup Fourth Shift templates, format incoming data files, and configure a batch process to import transactions. This session is intended for financial users interested in learning how your Fourth Shift system can help streamline processes and improve efficiencies Session 45: Report Builder 3.0 (Hands-on) Customizing standard Fourth Shift reports is a critical skill in today’s business world. Report Builder 3.0 is new in SQL Server 2008 R2 and provides an additional option to Visual Studio for customizing reports. It contains numerous enhancements and new formatting options to give you the tools you need for simple or complex modifications. Attend this hands-on session to see how easy it is to modify Fourth Shift reports for your business needs. You will leave this session able to quickly make modifications to standard Fourth Shift reports. This session is intended for technical users responsible for Fourth Shift report modification. Session 46: Managing Contacts and Email Templates (Hands-on) Release 7.50D supports emailing of Accounts Receivable Statements, Invoices, and Order Acknowledgements (Customer/Sales and Vendor/Purchase) from their related batch tasks. The choice of whether to email can be made and configured separately for each document type as well as for each customer and vendor and their related contacts. Attend this session and learn how to manage contacts for internal purposes and/or to email documents as well as how to personalize document emails by using different templates. You will leave this session with the experience of adding contact information and email templates. This session is intended for all users interested in learning more about the new contact management and document email features offered in 7.50D. Session 47: General Ledger Reporting (Hands-on) Are you responsible for making critical business decisions or for supplying financial information to those who are? Attend this session to see how financial data can be retrieved from the Fourth Shift database to help support this important decision making process. This session will include a look at the following reporting tools: Foundation Business Views (FBV), Report Model, Sales Analysis on SQL Server, and F9. Session 48: Nightly Batch Process (Hands-on) When was the last time you examined your nightly batch process? Are you still running the same tasks you were ten years ago? This session will discuss the typical tasks in a nightly process as well as tasks that may be removed because they are no longer needed or where exclusive access is no longer required for certain tasks. Bring details of your night processing batch task (BSET) to compare and ask questions. You will leave this session with ideas on how to better manage your night batch processing. This session is intended for system administrators or individuals responsible for running the Fourth Shift nightly batch process. Session 51: Electronic Document Distribution Ever wish that you could maintain contact information for customers, vendors or even employees within Fourth Shift? How about automatically email key business documents to your customers and vendors? This session will walk through each of these features from both a business (available features, best practices, etc.) and technical (setup and configuration) perspective. You will leave this session with an in-depth understanding of how to manage contact information within your Fourth Shift system as well as how to configure the system to automatically email key business documents to your customers and vendors based on this contact information. This session is intended for anyone who has a detailed or general interest in learning more about these recently added features. Session 52: F9 Financial Reporting Analyzing financial data and generating key financial reports are significant responsibilities of the finance function in any business. The F9 tool allows you to do both on a platform that most finance departments are already familiar with, Microsoft Excel. You will learn how F9 extends a spreadsheet’s functionality by providing more formulas and commands and how to access your Fourth Shift general ledger data through F9 integration. You will leave this session understanding how the F9 product can easily assist in accessing financial data and the development of financial reporting.
