1 Introduction This guide describes the features of the official timing information screens displayed during Formula One™ sessions. There are three screens of information available and their primary functions are described in the following sections.

2 Common Features There are three features that are common to all of the screens. These are all shown at the bottom of each screen as depicted below.

13:01:48

Time of day

1:58:12

Red flag Indicator

Time remaining

Time of day

This is displayed in the bottom left hand corner of the screen and shows hours, minutes and seconds.

Red flag indicator

This area would normally show the screen identifier; however, in the event of a red flag being shown, this identifier will be replaced on all screens by a flashing red bar. In the event of a red flag during a race, the flashing red bar will be shown until the race classification has been recalculated at which time it becomes a steady red bar. When preparation for any restart of the race commences, the red bar will be turned off. More detailed information about the red flag situation may be published by Race Control on the message area on Screen 3.

Time remaining

If the current session is subject to a time-limit then the amount of time remaining for the session is shown in the bottom right hand corner of the screen in hours, minutes and seconds. If the session is red flagged then this clock will automatically stop, and will resume countdown when the session restarts (with the official time remaining). Note: the official amount of time remaining may be adjusted in accordance with the regulations or Stewards’ decision from that shown when the clock stopped. If a fixed-time session is red flagged, the clock will continue to count down.

Race

For races, Screen 1 will appear at the start of the session showing all of the cars in grid order with the words IN PIT in the lap time column. As each car goes out of the pits these words will disappear and only reappear should they re-enter the pits at the end of their reconnaissance lap. During the first lap of the race the screen will update the order as the cars cross the first intermediate timing position. Driver names are shown abbreviated and sector timing data is shown to three decimal places.

Display update

As a car laps the circuit its times and speeds are recorded at three locations, known as Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and the Control/Finish line. An additional speed trap is placed at another point around the circuit. The exact position of these locations is shown on the map available in the Media Centre. For approximately 50% of the time taken for a driver to complete the first sector of a new lap, the display will show the information for the lap just completed. For the remainder of the time taken to complete the first sector, the display will show, for each individual sector, the gain or loss of time in relation to the fastest time set in that session by the driver. During races, as each car crosses the Control/Finish Line the car number and driver’s name is shown in white. When the leader crosses the Control/Finish Line all other names revert to yellow. When a car enters the pits, the words IN PIT will be shown in the most recent lap time column and the time taken for any previous pit stops (the time in pit lane from pit entry to pit exit) and lap number will be shown in the sector columns. When the car leaves the pits, the word OUT will be shown in the most recent lap time column, and the duration of the stop just completed will appear in the last sector column.

3.5

Colour codes Yellow

This is the standard display colour.

Red

This is used in conjunction with cars exiting and entering the pits. When a car leaves the pits, along with the word OUT in the lap time column, the car number and driver name will appear in red until that car goes through the first sector, when it will revert to its normal colour. When a car enters the pits, along with the words IN PIT in the lap time column, the car number and driver name will appear in red. After a short period of time it will revert to its normal colour.

3.6

White

This indicates the most recent information available for that driver (e.g. a white sector time is the information for the sector just completed).

Green

This indicates a personal best for the driver and may relate to individual sector times and speeds as well as a lap time.

Magenta

This indicates the overall best in that session and may relate to individual sector times and speeds as well as a lap time.

Column descriptions Position

The current classification position of the car in the session. After the first ten laps of a race, the position number of any driver who has not completed 90% of the distance covered by the leader will not appear.

Car number

The racing number of the car.

Driver name

The driver’s full name.

Sector 3 time for the current lap

This shows the time taken from the second intermediate position to the Control/Finish Line during the current lap.

STOP

This will appear in place of the sector information in the event of a car not completing that sector, indicating that in all probability the car has stopped on the circuit.

Most recent lap time

As the car passes the Control/Finish Line, the time for the lap just completed is shown in this column. The following will also appear under this column: •

The word OUT to indicate that a driver has just exited the pits.

The words IN PIT to indicate that a driver has just entered the pits.

A line showing the personal best time in each sector for that car in the current session will be displayed in yellow after the car has been in the pits for 15 seconds. Lap count

The number of laps currently started by the driver in the session.

Time behind the car in front

The difference between the driver and the driver immediately above the last time they crossed the Control/Finish Line. N.B. If the interval the last time they crossed the Control/Finish Line is less than the previous time (i.e. the driver is gaining on the one in front) then it will be shown in white. If the interval the last time they crossed the Control/Finish Line is equal to or greater than the previous time (i.e. the driver is either static or losing to the one in front) then it will be shown in yellow.

Pit stop count
