No Capitalism is no Solution

Original Title: Kein Kapitalismus ist auch keine Lösung. Was wir heute von Adam Smith, Karl Marx und Maynard Keynes lernen können.

What are the reasons for financial crises? Why are rich people rich and poor people poor? How does money work? Where does economic growth come from? These are questions that even a kid could ask under given circumstances – but for some reason they are just as puzzling to our economists who are often times tinkering about with theories and models that have very little in common with reality. But their failures do not only cost billions in global currencies – they even cost human lives. A firm grasp of the classics is necessary in order to comprehend what went wrong: Adam Smith, Karl Marx and John Maynard Keynes – important thinkers whose academic representation is either small, faulty or simply does not exist. An astounding fact, considering they gave the best answers to the questions asked above – which is the reason why they need to be rediscovered.

Separated from his sisters during flight, he finds safety in a Swiss foster home. Later in life, Argyris fights against military dictatorship in Greece and for justice for the survivors of Distomo. He remains peaceful even though had to witness the German government reject responsibility for past crimes. Untold Stories

Original Title: Lückenpresse. Das Ende des Journalismus, wie wir ihn kannten

Mainstream media is in a struggle for credibility. Its authority is often challenged by large parts of its consumers and public opinions are diverging further and further from published ones. This is by no means an exclusively German phenomenon: the dominant media outlets in other countries are under attack as well. The point in question is one of content – “Lies” seems to be the keyword. But are lies the true problem? Ulrich Teusch’s analysis covers two far more grave factors: the suppression of essential information and biased judgement. Both deficits are firmly grounded in the structure of modern media. If nothing changes, the slow downfall of mainstream media will continue and journalism as we knew it will soon be a thing of the past.

Deadly Friendship

What We Owe our Animal Friends and Why We Cannot Live Without Them Mankind wouldn’t have become what it is now without its animals. Our Ancestors could not have established global dominance as a species had they not discovered a kind of sustenance extraordinarily high in protein: meat. Grasping this fact bears consequences for our relationships to animals. It ought to be one of care and respect. But it also bears consequences for our relationship to our own nutrition. For turning mankind vegan as a whole is neither healthy, nor close to our nature, since supplying the resources for a vegan diet on a global scale would require artificial fertilizers and other chemicals. Florian Schwinn sketches the cultural history of the inseparable bond man has developed to its livestock, offers a passionate plea for animal rights and argues why mankind’s switching to a vegan diet would be the wrong move, because veganism inevitably leads to the death of countless animals, famine for countless people and the ultimate victory of potentially dangerous chemicals in agriculture.

Red Capitalism

The Rise and Decline of China China has reached a crossroads: Can it accomplish the grand leap to international hegemony or is it destined to be torn apart by its past and its internal conflicts? With its blatant social inequalities, an economy whose growth is coming to a screeching halt, workers’ riots and a catastrophic environmental record, the once-powerful People’s Republic of China appears to be slipping into a deep crisis. Will the experimental “Red Capitalism” succeed, or will the country’s internal struggle cause it to shatter? China-expert Helmut Forster shows why the country is incapable of overcoming its past and tries to predict the Chinese strategy for the twenty-first century.

Sinister Powers A Thriller

TV-Journalist Mitch Berger is slipped an anonymous record that depicts the two NSU-killers Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt in their trailer: heavily armed and moments before the police arrives. Who is monitoring them? And why is Mitch of all people entrusted with this sensitive DVD? At the same time, a conspirative group led by the high-ranking secret-service official Werner Dickmann is planning a terrorist attack on refugee quarters. For in the second year of relentless immigration, resistance against the chancellor’s policies is on the rise – nested deeply within the government itself. Lüders’ intelligently woven thriller is a blend of reality and fiction. The plot itself may be fictional – the length of the trial against the NSU and the radical tendencies of several institutions involved in the proceedings, however, is harsh reality.
