School-organized Walk or Run Event • Sterling Montessori Walk-a-Thon • • • • • •
Raised $25K first year, $18K second year Decided to make the event every other year so as not to over tap donors Didn’t want to give profits away so organized it themselves Same amount of fun and excitement Pep rally Giant mailbox set up for donations and map to get donations from around the world before the event • Second largest fundraiser behind Citipass
www.AdvocatesForHealthInAction.org
Boosterthon Fun Run • National company with staff that run the event for your PTA • Lots of schools in Wake County held Boosterthon events this year… Pros • A plus for burned out PTAs…they do set-up, record-keeping, prizes, host event, etc. • Epic Adventure Character Theme—daily character education • Kids are pumped up, fun atmosphere, music, every child gets to participate whether they raise money or not • Fitness is fun! • Tools for online fundraising—easy to raise money from friends/family around the world www.AdvocatesForHealthInAction.org
Boosterthon Fun Run Mills Park Elementary • $2000 fee for the event: amounted to $2/student roughly for a every child to get a t-shirt & participate • netted $37,000+ • Previous highest fundraiser was $21K—giving campaign
• With neighborhood schools, more difficult to sell Citipass books—and useless to family out of town. Families rallied around a fitness-related event! • Not everyone will be happy that so much money leaves the school, but this school felt it never would have raised those types of funds on its own.
www.AdvocatesForHealthInAction.org
Boosterthon Fun Run Farmington Woods Elementary • Organized their own fun run for years • Switched to Boosterthon this year • $17,000 raised West Lake Elementary: $23,000 raised this year, first time held event
• Eliminated food-related fundraisers and opted for a fundraiser that focused on positive physical activity with a positive message.
