FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS!

Presidents Page by Tom Arvidson

It was May of 2006 when the members of the North Shore Corvette Club gave me the honor of serving as President of the club. Since then we have been through a lot and had many great times. After 9 years I will no longer be the President of the North Shore Corvette Club. I will miss serving the members as President, but I will not stop serving the membership. I will gladly see everyone at the monthly meetings and at the events. I hope to host many new events and attend many more. I extend my best wishes to the new NSCC Board as I know they are all worthy and responsible and will serve the club very well. Thank you for the opportunity to serve your as President. It has been a great privilege. Best Regards, Tom 2

NSCC TRIP TO THE NCM BASH WEEKEND THURSDAY: We had 16 NSCC club members travel to the NCM for the Michelin Bash. We also had 6 former NSCC members that met us at the NCM. Six cars were in the caravan on Thursday. We all met at the Montana Grille for dinner on Thursday night. FRIDAY: The next day we all toured the Corvette assembly plant to see the new Corvettes in the assembly process. John Jakubco felt a little dizzy from seeing all the beautiful new Corvettes and had to be taken to the hospital. He was OK later after Nancy told him the prices for the new Corvette were not as high as he thought. Then many of the club members went to the MSP (Motor Sports Park) for a trip around the track to test out their Corvettes. The new Corvette and the new 2017 Grand Sport were introduced. There are four new colors, Admiral Blue, Black Rose Metallic, Sterling Blue Metallic, and Watkins Glen Gray Metallic. SATURDAY: Many of the club members went shopping, checked out the car show and seminars, or traveled to Nashville. It was almost impossible to take in all of the events that were offered. The Corvette drawing was held and sorry to say, it was not an NSCC member...John Johnson, Cape Coral, FL won the Torch Red beauty. In summary, we al had a fantastic time at the NCM and on the track, and it was great to enjoy time with all the members of the club. Names must be Corvette or club related and nothing even close to offensive in any way will be accepted.

The suggestions will be reduced down to about 3-5 names and presented to the membership for a vote at one of the future membership meetings. I think they brought along some of that Mississippi rain as the Bash weekend did experience some rain to dampen activities.

MEMBER CAR FEATURE

THE “VIRGINIA GENTLEMAN” NHRA VINTAGE DRAG CAR This vintage drag car is currently owned by NSCC member, Jerry Mulick. The car started out in 1967 as the typical Goodwood Green convertible with A/C and a vinyl covered hardtop. The tank sticker is still on the car. In 1970, the engine was built by Justice Bros in Virginia and is actually a small block with 13 to 1 compression. It was owned and raced by John Boughers from 1967 to 1982 and then sold to Gino, at Gino’s Auto Body and raced from 1982 until 1989. John Boughers won many races including the NHRA Nationals and was fondly known as the “Oldest Man in Drag Racing” before selling the car to Gino. The main sponsor was Virginia Gentleman Bourbon Whiskey along with a host if other minor sponsors. Articles about the car appeared in many vintage magazines such as Hot Rod, and Car Craft. The car is now featured in the racing section of the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.
