SYSTEM PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Fire Performance Characteristics: Provide folding panel partitions with surface burning characteristics indicated below, as determined by testing assembled materials composed of surface coverings, backings, and other construction identical to those required in this section, per ASTM E 84, by a testing organization acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. Flame Spread: 25 or less. Smoke Developed: 450 or less. Acoustical Performance: Provide folding panel partitions tested by independent testing laboratory acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, for the following acoustic properties, according to the test method indicated: Sound Transmission Requirements: Folding panel partition assembly tested in a full-scale opening (14 feet by 9 feet) for laboratory sound transmission loss performance in accordance with ASTM E 90, determined by ASTM E 413 and rated for a STC plus or minus 1 as indicated: Sound Transmission Class (STC): 50. Noise Isolation Class (NIC): Folding panel partitions identical to those tested for following rating tested per ASTM E 336. NIC 40, plus or minus 2.

QUALITY ASSURANCE Single-Source Responsibility: Obtain folding panel partitions and mounting hardware from one source from a single manufacturer. Installer: Walls shall be installed by authorized local distributor licensed by the operable wall manufacturer. Installer shall be an in house employee and local to provide proper service. Testing Laboratory Qualifications: To qualify for acceptance, an independent testing laboratory must demonstrate to Architect's satisfaction, based on evaluation of laboratory-submitted criteria conforming to ASTM E 699, that it has the experience and capability to conduct satisfactorily the testing indicated.

WARRANTY Provide a written warranty by manufacturer of operable partitions agreeing to repair or replace any components with manufacturing defects. Warranty Period: Two (2) years from date of shipment.

DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING Deliver materials to project site in original factory wrappings and containers, clearly labeled with identification of manufacturer, brand name, quality or grade, fire performance characteristics, and lot number. Store panels only on edge, blocked off ground to prevent sagging and warping, in original undamaged packages and containers, inside well-ventilated area protected from weather, moisture, soiling, extreme temperatures, and humidity.

Comply with instructions and recommendations of manufacturer for special delivery, storage, and handling requirements.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS MANUFACTURERS Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following: Modernfold, Inc., Acousti-Seal # 900 Series, Model 933EF, with end 90 deg. stack as shown on plans and required for proper operation, electrically operated. Or approved equal, prior to bidding as per section 01610.

OPERATION: Operable wall shall be a series of continuously hinged flat panels, electrically operated, top supported with operable floor seals. Partition shall be operated by two (2) control stations wired in series and located on opposite sides of the partition. The drive unit motor shall be equipped with limit switches to prevent over-extension and shall have an adjustable clutch type overload device. A positive chain drive attached to the lead panel shall pull the partition across the opening. Cable, belt or other friction type drives will not be accepted. Electric Motor shall consist of: a 115 volt, 1 phase, 1 horsepower, 60 hertz motor. Final Closure shall be side jamb.

PANEL CONSTRUCTION Nominal 3-inch thick panels in max. 48-inch widths, sized to fit openings shown. All panel horizontal and vertical framing members fabricated from minimum 18-gauge formed steel with overlapped and welded corners for rigidity. Top channel is reinforced to support suspension system components. Frame is designed so that full vertical edges of panels are of formed steel and provided concealed protections of the edges of the panel skin. Panel Skin: 21 gauge sheet steel lock formed around panel edge and welded into panel frame to provide a unitized panel unit. Acoustical ratings of partition shall attain a 50 STC. Top reinforcing as required to support suspension components. Internal insulation as required to achieve specified acoustical rating. Hinges for Panels Shall be full leaf butt hinges, attached directly to panel frame with welded hinge anchor plates within panel to further support hinge mounting to frame. Hinges mounted into panel edge or vertical astragal are not acceptable. Panel Thickness: 3.00 inches. Panel Weight: 8 psf maximum as determined by panel construction, surface covering, and accessories. Panel Trim: No vertical trim required or allowed on edges of panels; minimal groove appearance at panel joints. Panel Width: As shown on drawings.

SUSPENSION SYSTEMS #30 Suspension System Carriers: One all-steel trolley with steel tired ball bearing wheels per panel, (except hinged panels). Non-steel tires are not acceptable. Exposed Track soffit: Steel, integral to track, and pre-painted off white, and no exposed fasteners Suspension Tracks: Minimum 7 gauge, 0.18 inch roll-formed steel track supported by adjustable steel hanger brackets, brackets to support load bearing surface of track. Track bracket assembly supported by a pair of 1/2” threaded rods attached to structure as detailed on drawings. Aluminum track is not acceptable.

FINISH SURFACE Materials: Manufacturer's standard factory applied, Class “A” rated material. Finish shall be wall covering and upholstery fabric weighing not less than 12 ounces per lineal yard, with surface treatment to resist stains. Panel trim, exposed, shall be one consistent color, to be selected from manufacturer’s standard colors. Materials: Colors and patterns as selected by Architect from manufacturer's standards.

SEALS Vertical Interlocking Sound Seals: Between panels: Roll-formed steel astragals, with reversible tongue and groove configuration in each panel edge for universal panel operation. Rigid plastic astragals or astragals in only one panel edge are not acceptable. Horizontal Top Seals: Continuous contact extruded vinyl bulb shape with pairs of non-contacting vinyl fingers to prevent distortion without the need for mechanically operated parts. Horizontal Bottom Seals: Shall be Modernfold IA2 Bottom Seal. Automatic operable seals providing nominal 2- inch operating clearance with an operating range of +0.50-inch to –1.50-inch which automatically drop as panels are positioned, without the need for tools or cranks.

PART 3 - EXECUTION EXAMINATION Examine flooring for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of folding partitions. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

INSTALLATION Install folding panel partitions and accessories in compliance with ASTM E 557 after other finishing operations including painting, have been completed.
