Introduction This supplement provides advisory information (NOT FAA APPROVED) for operations on icy or wet runways. The data is presented in two sections, A and B. Section A is designed to be used in conjunction with the Flight Management System (FMS). Takeoff and landing field length is presented for wet or icy runways without contamination as well as with contamination depths between 0.1 and 0.3 inches. Landing crosswind limits for varying runway friction conditions and landing distances using reverse thrust only (no braking) to stop the aircraft are also presented. When a significant depth of runway contamination (greater than 0.1 inches) is present, takeoff and landing distances can only be determined using the method presented in Section A. Section B provides takeoff distances for operations from wet and icy runways with no contamination depth. The data is provided in a tabular format for takeoff flap settings of 10 and 20 degrees. This data is presented as a function of weight, altitude and temperature, so a more accurate distance may be obtained for a particular condition. The data presented in section B should not be used if contamination depths greater than 0.1 inches are present. These tables were developed when the limit on takeoff thrust usage for single engine operations was still restricted to five (5) minutes. Thus they provide very conservative climb limits for the new ten (10) minute engine out limit on takeoff thrust usage.

SECTION A. CONTAMINATED RUNWAY FIELD LENGTH DATA FOR USE WITH THE FMS The data in Section A may be used in conjunction with the FMS. If contamination depths between 0.1 and 0.3 inches are present, the following table should be used to convert the average contamination depth to an equivalent Runway Surface Contamination (RSC) depth, which is the equivalent water depth, in inches. 2. Departure Runway Length Tables The distances given in the table below are shown in terms of equivalent wet or icy runway length for each dry departure runway length. For example, if a 4,000-ft runway is available, the increased takeoff distance due to reduced braking action will make a 4,000-ft runway that is wet with no RSC depth equivalent to a dry 3,200-ft runway. The table allows the actual runway length to be adjusted for runway slipperiness and RSC depth. This adjusted runway length can then be entered in the FMS for computation of weights and V-speeds. Linear interpolation or the next lower departure runway length should be used when the actual field length does not match table values. See example below for table use. a. 3. Required Landing Field Length Tables The tables below allow the required landing distance from the AFM or FMS to be adjusted for RSC. Landing distance on a dry runway should be computed and used with the tables to get the landing distance required on a wet or icy runway with or without contamination. The required landing distances should then be compared to the runway length available to determine if adequate stopping distance is available. Table c and Table d (pages 7 and 8, respectively) provide expanded landing distances for the information shown below. NOTE: Flight Manual procedures recommend that cancellation of thrust reversers be initiated by 70 knots so as to be completely cancelled by the time normal taxi speed is achieved. If landing runway conditions will result in compromised braking performance, this table may be used to provide additional information for pilot judgement.

5. Crosswind Landing Limited crosswind conditions for landing are largely a function of the runway friction condition. That is, the maximum allowable crosswinds can be related to the runway friction coefficient, which may be related to runway surface conditions reported by airport towers. In the United States, runway surface conditions are most likely to be reported based on pilot visual interpretations. Other methods of reporting runway surface condition are the Canadian Runway Friction Index (CRFI), which is used in Canada, and RCR, which is used by the military. The table below shows a correlation of RSC with other methods of reporting runway surface conditions. The crosswind limits chart is applicable only for headwind conditions. Landings with any tailwind condition on contaminated runways are not recommended due to the inherent hazards of landing on such runways. SECTION B. TABULATED TAKEOFF DISTANCES ON WET OR ICY RUNWAYS WITH NO CONTAMINATION The charts in this section provide takeoff distances and V-speeds for varying pressure altitude, temperature and gross weight when operating on wet or icy runways with no significant contamination (i.e. contamination depth < 0.1”). Cowl anti-icing is assumed to be ON any time the ambient temperature is below +10°C. The tables have been prepared taking into account all of the takeoff and climb limitations affecting operations, exclusive of obstacle clearance considerations. Distances shown are balanced field lengths where V1 is greater than V1MCG. Accelerate-stop distances are shown with V1 = V1MCG when a balanced field length is not possible. All runway takeoff distances shown in the following charts assume a screen height of 35 feet when calculating the accelerate-go distance. On a wet runway, braking has been assumed to be half as effective as on a dry runway. On an icy runway, braking has been assumed to be approximately 1/8 as effective. Following an engine failure, accelerate-stop distances are based on the use of maximum reverse thrust on the operative engine to 70 KCAS and use of idle thrust below 50 KCAS. Interpolation for intermediate conditions of takeoff weight, ambient temperature or pressure altitude is not recommended due to the non-linearity of the performance and the possibility of error. To ensure conservatism in airplane performance for takeoff conditions that fall between the given values, use the next HIGHER weight, altitude or temperature and next SHORTER field length. A series of asterisks in a table entry indicates that performance or temperature limits have been exceeded. As pressure altitude increases, the range of takeoff weights shown on the charts decreases. This is due to the more limited takeoff weight range due to performance limitations at higher altitudes. 1. Limitations • • • • • • • • •

2. Chart Usage The procedure for using the Takeoff Planning Charts to calculate the Required Field Length for a full power takeoff is given below: a. Select the appropriate table for the desired takeoff flap setting, runway condition and airport pressure altitude. b. Select the column for ambient temperature. If the ambient temperature is below 10°C, cowl anti-icing may be selected ON during takeoff (the information in the tables is based on cowl anti-icing ON at ambient temperatures below 10°C and all anti-icing OFF at temperatures at and above 10°C). c. Select the row for the airplane takeoff weight. Under this weight are the final takeoff climb speed (VFS), the enroute climb speed (VSE) and the reference speed (Flaps 39°) for landing distance (VREF). These speeds are independent of temperature. The maximum allowable temperature shown (MAX TEMP) represents the highest allowable temperature for compliance with the limits of takeoff climb, maximum brake energy, tire speed and maximum certified temperature limits. d. Read “Required Field Length” and takeoff speeds (V1, VR, V2) from chart. The “required field length” and takeoff speeds are found at the intersection of the ambient temperature column and the takeoff weight row. e. Adjust Available Field Length for wind and slope. If the runway has uphill slope, decrease the available field length by 18% (flaps 20°) or 16% (flaps 10°) for each 1% of uphill slope, up to a maximum of 2%. Downhill slope is not permitted. For each 5 knots of headwind, increase the available field length by 2%, up to 40 knots. Tailwinds are not permitted. f. Compare Required Field Length to the Available Field Length to determine if a takeoff is possible. g. Check Obstacle Clearance. Obstacle clearance information is not included in this OIS. Check obstacle clearance information using the charts presented in the Airplane Flight Manual. NOTE: The following charts can also be used to determine the maximum takeoff gross weight for a given pressure altitude, temperature and available field length (as opposed to determining the required field length for a given takeoff gross weight). See Example 2 for details. NOTE: These tables were developed when the limit on takeoff thrust usage for single engine operations was still restricted to five (5) minutes. Thus they provide very conservative climb limits for the new ten (10) minute engine out limit on takeoff thrust usage.

Note the change from the previous example since the adjustment is being made to the AVAILABLE field length instead of the REQUIRED field length.
