PART I- STUDENT VISA Student Visa: Citizens of EU/EEA States do not need a visa for entering or studying in Germany. All that is required is a valid travel document such as a passport. If you are a citizen of any other countries you have to contact your local German Embassy to make an appointment for a student visa. The embassy usually has a list with all necessary documents which are needed for visa application. You will in all cases need: 

a valid passport and passport photographs

a higher education entrance qualification recognized in Germany (“Abitur” certificate or an equivalent)

all certificates concerning your pervious studies

proof of financing

the letter of acceptance from the TU Dortmund University

The admission letter will be send to you via E-Mail shortly after June 30th. Please note that they are generated in an automated process so we have to ask for your patience.

PART I- ACCOMMODATION Accommodation: A big topic for you will be to find accommodation here in Dortmund. Student numbers have been rising in the last years, and this makes it difficult to find a place to stay – even more if you come from abroad. Please check the MMT website for useful links. http://mmt.mb.tu-dortmund.de/en/student-life-in-dortmund/accommodation We strongly recommend you to register online at Studierendenwerk Dortmund, which is the organization that runs the student dormitories on and near the campus. On their website http://www.stwdo.de/Wohnen (unfortunately available only in German), you can get information on the organization and apply for a place. Click on “OnlineAntrag” to get to the online application form to be filled out. You will then be put on a waiting list. However, waiting times may be up to several months unfortunately. Please make sure to give a German address because, in case you are allocated a room, you will be notified by regular post and asked to confirm the room offer within a certain, limited period of time. Maybe you already have a friend in Germany who is willing to give his/her address or maybe your student advisor. As a last resort, you may give the MMT office address (please inform us if you do so!): “Your name” c/o Institut für Umformtechnik und Leichtbau Technische Universität Dortmund M.Sc. Oliver Napierala Baroper Str. 303 D-44227 Dortmund Germany

PART I- SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship: You do have the option to apply for a “Deutschlandstipendium” which is a scholarship awarded by TU Dortmund University to selected students of all study programs. This scholarship is payed at a monthly rate of 300EUR for one year starting in October. After that you can apply for an extension. Application will be possible from August 15th to September 15th. TU Dortmund University provides information on scholarship opportunity. Please click on this link to learn more: http://www.tudortmund.de/uni/Uni/Freunde_und_F__rderer/Stipendien/Deutschlandstipendium/Bewerb ung/index.html If you have any questions in this respect, please contact Mrs. Stücken. You will find her details on the right side of the website stated above. You may also check the website of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) https://www.daad.de/deutschland/en/ or http://www.scholarshipportal.com/

PART I-STUDENT ADVISOR Student Advisor : We are pleased to announce that you will soon be contacted by email by your student advisor – a senior MMT student, who is glad to help you in any issues in addition to the MMT Office. We appreciate this assistance in giving a better support to the new students already before arrival. The aim of the Student Advisors is to help students in all non-technical issues. For example: How to register for new semester/ exams? How does the BOSS-System work? And many other questions …. Your Student Advisor will assist you during your first semester in coping with daily life in Dortmund and at TU Dortmund University. Whether you need to know where the cafeteria is, how to register at the library, or how to do some sports in your free time, your Student Advisor will be glad to help you.

PART I- TRAVELLING TO GERMANY Traveling to Germany: The lectures will start at the beginning of October and the week before that the MMT Office and the International Office will have an orientation week for international students. So we recommend that you come to Dortmund at the end of September to have time to get settled. Your flights will probably arrive in Frankfurt (FRA) or Düsseldorf (DUS). Please mind that you will have to travel from there to Dortmund yourself. You can use the train from both airports to come to Dortmund, but Düsseldorf is closer to Dortmund than Frankfurt. Thus the train tickets from Düsseldorf to Dortmund are cheaper than the tickets from Frankfurt to Dortmund. But often the plane tickets to Frankfurt are a lot cheaper than to Düsseldorf. So please keep the following information in mind when you plan your trip: 

Frankfurt airport: train ride to Dortmund (about 4 hours) costs about 90€

Düsseldorf airport: train ride to Dortmund (about 1 hour) costs about 20€

PART I- ONLINE MMT PRE-COURSE Online MMT pre-course: We are happy to announce to you that there will be offered a unique opportunity to you preparing yourself for your MMT-studies here at TU-Dortmund. In advance of your stay in Germany we will offer an online course and invite you to take part. The course’s main idea is that you get to know each other, TU Dortmund University as well as the area. You will start working in international teams in order to recognize the transnational nature of engineering work. The course will consist of parts were we come together in an online room and parts were you will have to work in different tasks together in teams. It will be fully online so that you can take part from your home country via your computer. This course will help you to have a smooth start into your stay here in Germany. As stated in your CoA (Certificate of Admission), the enrollment period for MMT students will be from 19 September to 13 October 2017. During this period, you are supposed to visit the International Office of TU Dortmund University for enrollment. Please bring all your original documents as listed in your CoA with you and check the website for the opening hours at: http://www.aaa.tu-dortmund.de/cms/en/International_Office/Office-hours/index.html Please mind that you will need a German bank account to finalize your enrolment because you will have to bank wire the social fee (about 265 EUR) to TU Dortmund University. (The necessary documents to make the wire transfer will be handed out to you by the International Office on the day you go there to enroll). On the beginning of October, before lecture start, there will be an orientation week for all new international students. You can register for participation on the day of enrollment at the International Office. To get an idea of this event, please check: http://www.aaa.tu-dortmund.de/cms/en/International_Office/Events/Come2_Campus/index.html On top of this, there will be a Welcome Event at the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction exclusively for the MMT students. We would highly appreciate and recommend that you participate in this to have the opportunity to: 

be welcomed by Professor Tekkaya (the father of the MMT study program) providing relevant information for new students
