Films on Demand (FOD) is a website that has high quality videos on: • Business & Economics • Health & Medicine • Humanities & Social Sciences • Science & Mathematics • Travel • Fitness Programming Includes: Oscar, Emmy, and Peabody award winning documentaries, interviews, instructional and vocational training videos, historical speeches, and newsreels • Can be shown in your classroom or embedded in Moodle • Create custom segments and playlists for a more tailored teaching experience • Copyright issues for use are already licensed by FOD

How To Get To Films on Demand Moye Library website Once you are on the Electronic Databases page, scroll down the alphabetical list of databases and click on Films On Demand Video Collection.

Creating an Account • You must have a FOD account to access Advanced Features like creating playlists, custom segments, and marking favorites. • Creating an account for FOD is just as easy as creating an account on any other website. • From the top-right hand corner of the FOD homepage, click on My Films. • A drop-down box will appear giving you the ability to sign-in to FOD, but if you do not have an account yet you must click on Create an Account. This will take you to the page that will allow you to create an Infobase account. • …continued on the next slide

Fill out the form to create an Infobase account and you are on your way to accessing advanced features to better utilize FOD for your Benefit.

After You Log-In A drop-down menu that allows you to tend to your account appears once the icon is clicked. After you log-in, the top right of your screen changes. “My Films” is now an icon of a person.

Films on Demand Homepage Browsing On the FOD Homepage you can browse videos by Subjects, videos that are Featured the Month, the Most Popular videos, Recently Added videos, and you Browse Featured Producers.

Searching for Videos Regardless of where you in the FOD website, the Search Box is always at the top of the page.

To the right of your search results there are filters that you can apply to your search.

Creating Custom Segments

Segments Section

To the right of the video there is a Segments section already laid out for you so you can easily create or add to playlists (playlists will be covered later), but you can also create custom segments. To create a custom segment click on Custom Segment under the video.

If you know the Start and End Times that you would like you can manually input them. If you do not know the Times, you can watch the video and when you reach the point where you would like to start your segment click on Set Start Time and the segment’s Start Time will be set. Then, when you reach the point where you would like your segment to end click on Set End Time and your End Time will be set.

You can add a title and descriptions to your segment in their respective boxes. Now, click Create Segment

Accessing Your Custom Segments Your Custom Segment will show up at the bottom of the Segments Section.

Whenever you visit this video your custom segments will still be there until you delete them by clicking the Trash Can.

…you can click on the Menu Tab and then click My Films.

Saving Segments to a Playlist To add your custom segment to a playlist you only have to be on the videos page, the segment doesn’t have to be playing. 1. Click on Add To under the video 2. Find the segment you would like to add to a playlist and click on it, or you can choose the Full Title if you would like. 3. Click the drop down box and click on the playlist you would like to add the segment to. If you haven’t made a playlist yet you will do so in the next step. Then click Add to Playlist. 4. Type what the name of your playlist will be called and click Create New Playlist. 5. Repeat Step 3 and the Playlist you just created should be an option now. You can also create more Playlists in this same box if you know you are going to need them later.

Another Way to Create Playlists

On the search results’ page you will see a + sign; click it and a pop up will appear to add that video to a playlist, but you can also create a new playlist. There is no designated place to create a playlist. You can manage your playlists through the My Films section discussed earlier. We will be discussing this next.

This box appears under the search result and it works the same way as the previous page showed with the exception of adding segments to a playlist. Although, you do not have to add the video, you can just create playlists.

Managing Your Playlists

Go to My Films as discussed earlier on in this tutorial and click on My Playlists.

You can easily organize multiple playlists into one folder. Click Create a new folder to further organize your playlists.

Add to Favorites

From the search results’ page click on Add To and make sure Add to Favorites is underlined. Select a fold to add the video to, or you can create a New Folder. This works the same way as creating a new Playlist.

Embedding Videos from Films on Demand You are able to embed these videos or segments in Moodle or in PowerPoint presentations. 1. Click Share 2. Make sure Embed Code is underlined. 3. Copy the Embed Code and paste it to your desired destination.. 4. You can also change the video size to fit the area or your display.
