WAKO President Mr. Ennio Falsoni’s OFFICIAL INVITATION TO ALL WAKO MEMBERS Dear Friends, After the great success we had in 2009 with the promotion of our WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, I am pleased, once again, to inform you that our next EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS (all styles) regarding our best CADETS and JUNIORS will be held in LIGNANO SABBIADORO (ITALY) in the same sport complex of the last World Championships. Due to a previous commitment with the MASTER GAMES, the Lignano Sabbiadoro sport complex was busy in the period we normally promote our event. So I was obliged to reserve the whole structure from 2nd to 9th SEPTEMBER 2011. If on one side those dates look early for some of you, on the other side we will have a great advantage: the fact that the whole town will be alive, since in the first week of September they are still on full holiday season! The weather is normally fantastic in that period, and so all competitors, officials, fans and families will be able to spend a week not only in a sport-hall and in an outof-season town: everybody will be able to enjoy a summer situation, with big umbrellas on the beach and shops open for all tourists. I am really very pleased to confirm you that the sport-hall, will be beautifully equipped with everything we need to have a very nice competition. As many of you already know, the sport-hall has also large spaces for training and warming up, to run there our international referee seminars, coach meetings, weigh-in. Once again the sport-hall will be the Headquarters of our 2011 Cadet/Junior European Championships. For those of you who have never been to Lignano Sabbiadoro I would like to say that the venue is inside a great sport-village, something you had never seen before in my country, probably. It is located exactly in the North of Italy, in the Friuli region. Lignano Sabbiadoro is particularly full of life during the summer season, having beautiful long sandy beaches. It is a town of 15.000 people, close to much bigger and historical towns like Trieste or Udine which are just 40/50 minutes drive. Italy has a long tradition in promoting international events and, as usual, I can guarantee you that my Federation and my people will do their best to offer you all a memorable event. At least, that’s my hope. Also this time I got the support of Friuli Region’s president Mr. Renzo Tondo, who is a friend of mine, of all the sport-councillors of the area (Municipality, Province and of Friuli Region) and thanks to their help I have no doubt that our next European Championships will be another success. In the next few pages there is all information you need in order to make your reservations, book your flights, enter your competitors in our Championships. Ge Tur Village, Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD), Italy

The modern sporting fittings, all under CONI norms, situated among the green of a splendid pineta of 60 hectares, behind a beach of 1 Km and a half reserved to the guests of the center, make the tourist Village-sporting Efa-GeTur the ideal place for sporting withdrawals and great demonstrations or tournaments to national, European or international level. The proximity of the fittings, the notable receptive capacity (up to 2500 places in the 13 houses of reception) make the Village a center of primary importance in the context of the sporting tourism in these last years.

Surrounded by a pine forest, the village offers many sporting facilities including swimming pools, football pitches, tennis and volleyball courts. Teams will train at the beautiful indoor stadium, a modern sporting structure with 1000 m² of tatamis and place for two rings. There is also possibility of access to an olympic swimming pool, a fitness gym as well as a number of pitches and a large sandy beach for training.

Teams will have a choice of single, twin and triple rooms located within the village. All rooms have modern furnishings, TV sets and private bathrooms. At the village and also inside the sport hall the wireless connection is available.

The GeTur Village boasts excellent training facilities and accommodation. Also, as the village is self contained, it is probably one of the safest environments you could wish to train.

Other places to visit around the Village Trieste City This is border country, with the Adriatic on one side and a stark karst promontory on the other. The land is characterised by the scents and colours of the Mediterranean maquis, intensified by the bracing air of the Bora wind. Trieste is a place that seems to embrace the sea, or rather, to welcome the sea into the heart of the city. Great literary figures such as James Joyce, Italo Svevo and Umberto Saba drew inspiration. Piazza dell’Unità is one of the loveliest and biggest sea-front city squares in the world.

The surrounding area The coastline is characterised by white cliffs and rocks, with little bays and footpaths through the Mediterranean vegetation. Miramare and Duino have castles directly on the sea front. The karst promontory, as well as having unmistakable colours, traditions and flavours, also has a number of unique natural attractions, such as the Grotta Gigante, the biggest cave visitable by tourists in the world. Nature reserves include the Miramare sea reserve, the cliff area of Duino, Val Rosandra, and the Lanaro and Orsario mountains. The picturesque Istrian-Venetian town Muggia is known for its artistic treasures and excellent cooking.

Udine City Looking at Udine, Friuli's capital city, from the hills where the historic castle stands, to the north you see the red roofs of the city and beyond to the crests of the hills and mountains that protect it, whereas to the south, less than an hour's drive away, there is the Adriatic Sea. In the 17th century Giambattista Tiepolo reached the height of his artistic maturity in this city. His works can now be viewed in the Tiepolo Galleries (Palazzo Patriarcale), the cathedral and the church of the Purità. The series of old, brightly coloured, portico-lined piazzas between Piazza Libertà, “the most beautiful Venetian piazza on the mainland” and Piazza Matteotti (or Piazza delle Erbe) have all the atmosphere of an open-air sitting room, and are the very essence of the city.

HOW TO REACH LIGNANO SABBIADORO BY CAR – the best speedway is the A4 with exit in Latisana where a 20 Km highway links you to Lignano. BY TRAIN – there are two railway stations to reach Lignano: Latisana and Portogruaro, both on the line Venezia-Trieste. Bus service, with frequent daily runs, reach Lignano in about 20 min. from Latisana and 40 min. from Portogruaro. BY PLANE – there are two international airports in the surroundings of Lignano: Venezia – Marco Polo (90 Km) and Trieste – Ronchi dei Legionari (65 Km). Both airports are situated just an hour drive away, and shuttle buses assure the connections to Lignano at reasonable prices. (Please see “Transport” below)
