FHSAA Fan Site Request for Proposal and Business Requirements

Provide three current references of clients who are using your products and services in a production environment that FHSAA may contact. It is preferred to have client references that are similar in size and function to the FHSAA in terms of the scope and complexity of the development of the site.

ESTIMATED BUDGET AND RESOURCES Vendor must provide a breakdown of costs related to the implementation. This includes the hourly rate, number of estimated hours, the expected monthly breakdown, etc. The FHSAA would prefer to pay on a monthly billing cycle during the development project. All proposals must include a high-level project schedule & work breakdown structure, which identifies timelines, key milestones, project phases, or other project plan information.

STATEMENT OF WORK SCOPE SUMMARY Goals: The main goal of FHSAAFanatic.com is to portray a positive image of the FHSAA and high school sports in Florida. In addition to that, the following are equally as important in the development of the new site:  

 

To generate revenue through advertising To create a positive user experience o The site should be quick to load - caching particular pages for several minutes to accomplish this task is acceptable To make the site mobile responsive To make it the site SEO friendly (clean slug based URLs, metadata where applicable, semantic HTML)

Usage: Fans will visit FHSAAfanatic.com to get everything athletics related, including schedules, scores, brackets, rosters, stats, rankings, articles, videos, and more. Understanding the undertaking this is, the FHSAA is prepared to launch the new fan driven site in phases. The FHSAA wants a mobile responsive website. The vision for the homepage, both mobile and desktop, is within the FHSAAFanatic.com Development section. Similar sites to this concept for a state association include www.ndhsaanow.com, www.aia365.com, and secondhalf.mhsaa.com. You will see that secondhalf.mhsaa.com is mobile responsive. Each page should prominently display social media icons. Phase 1 would include the majority of data already housed within C2CSchools.com, for TEAM sports including: schools, alignments, teams, schedules, scores, rosters, and brackets. Phase 1 will also include the ability to post articles (along with integration of RSS feeds for third party article content) and manage pages. The development

company will need to work with C2CSchools.com in setting up APIs to house a lot of this data within the FHSAA database for display on the FHSAAFanatic.com website. Phase 2 would include rankings, videos, stats, customized brackets and INDIVIDUAL sports. Rankings as part of this phase would be dependent on the FHSAA board and implementation by a third party partner.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT The FHSAA main focus is on phase one and two. The developer would continue to be engaged developing out phase three and four in the future and more projects as the site expands. Any Vendor that is chosen to develop out the new content will be provided with a flexible development system in order to build out the new pages. An example for future development may consist of the inclusion of lower level schedules and the possible build out for middle schools. So the backend structure should be built with this future development in mind.

UTILIZING EXISTING DATA The FHSAA utilizes C2CSchools.com to manage a majority of its data including schools, alignments, schedules, scores, standings, brackets, and rosters. As part of FHSAA's contract with C2CSchools, they will be creating an API during this development time frame for FHSAA to extract this information. The development company will work with C2CSchools to complete API’s so that the data can be displayed on the new FHSAA fan driven site. Data from C2CSchools should be synchronized in near-real time and stored within the site’s database. This data should be stored in a manner that is independent of C2CSchools specifically, leaving the option to merge data from additional sources if desired.

ESTIMATED TRAFFIC This new site is expected to have predictable seasonal traffic spikes. Traffic is seasonal based on the season of sport. Spikes will occur closest to tournament time during the three seasons of sport and taper off in the summer. Expecting traffic to be at minimum 50,000 page views per day and spike at upwards of 200,000 page views on particular days.

FHSAAFANATIC.COM DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT THE LOOK AND FEEL User experience is a high priority for FHSAA. The site should scale well to multiple screen sizes, be touch friendly, load quickly, and have a simple and intuitive navigation system.

THE DESIGN To that point above, and the goals as listed in the scope summary, the design is the most critical component to this project. The FHSAA wants the users to have a very positive experience, from the look, to the ease of use. It is important to note that while mockups are generated for the design, what ultimately goes on the homepage (what the users first see) is still a work in progress, and may or may not include the ideas as listed under the “Home Page” section.

LOGO The FHSAA would like to create a custom logo utilizing the FHSAAFanatic branding utilizing the same colors associated with the FHSAA so there is tie in.

SCHOOL LOGOS C2CSchools.com has school logos available if the school has loaded them in. We would like to incorporate school logos on the website within the team pages, school pages, scores pages, etc.

ADVERTISING The FHSAA would like to utilize banner ads on the new site. The goal is to have industry standard ad sizes that are responsive to the desktop and mobile applications of the site. One provider the FHSAA could use is Google DFP as its ad placement service, but the service provider is certainly a discussion point that can be had between the FHSAA and the development company to find the best one for what the FHSAA is looking to accomplish in generating revenue for the site. The FHSAA expects that every page will incorporate industry standard size ads.

HOME PAGE Home page would be mobile responsive. Whether the user comes to FHSAAFanatic.com via a mobile device or desktop browser, the user should have access to the same content, adjusted properly to the screen size. NAVIGATION MENU There are three seasons of sports, and, depending on the season, those primary sports would have a dedicated menu listing. All other sports would be under “More Sports”. For example, if it were spring, the main menu bar across the top would be: Home/B Basketball/G Basketball /B Soccer/G Soccer/ More Sports

03/03/2014

Note: FHSAA Admin would have ability to tag sport by “team sport” or “individual” and designate when they do or don’t show as a main menu option and when they are under “More Sports”. Sports under “More Sports” are just links to those sport pages without the additional menu elements listed below: For “team sport” on Phase 1, i.e. basketball and soccer for this example, sport drop downs under the main sports listed currently in season, the following would be what the user could click on when hovering over the sport name:      

Teams Schedules Scores Standings Brackets Tournament Info

For “individual sport” on Phase 2, i.e. wrestling for this example, sport drop downs currently in season, the following would be what the user could click on:    

Teams Schedules Brackets Tournament Info

The menu down the left side of the home page would be:    

 

Scores Brackets Stories Schools o Opens up a page with a list of FHSAA member schools o See http://www.aia365.com/schools/ and http://www.ndhsaanow.com/schools Videos Rankings (for future)

PRIMARY CONTENT DISCUSSION POINTS The following is for discussion as to what can be incorporated as the “First look” when a user logs on to FHSAAFanatic.com via desktop or mobile device. This list is subject to change based on design renderings, etc.  

Find My School o Give users the ability to start typing in the name of the school to jump to a school page Main Billboards o This section will be used to highlight important news, videos, and more. The FHSAA staff will have the ability to upload photos to act as the images within these main billboard headers. The user, by clicking on the billboard, would be taken to that respect page.

  

Headlines o The most recent headlines as written by the FHSAA o The ability for the FHSAA to utilize RSS feeds from online properties in Florida to be able to link to articles from around the state direct from the Headlines section. o Pull in C2CSchools.com editorial content Today’s Schedule o What varsity sports matchups are taking place today  Potential for several hundred contests in a day  Perhaps filter by the top matches based on rankings (when rankings come into play)  Allow user to click on tabs for the different sports (loads based on season)  Future development to allow user to login and select favorite school/teams to load their events first upcoming before the rest Live Social Media Feeds Social Media Icons NFHS Network Widget o What’s upcoming on live video

SPORT PAGES When a user clicks on a sport link, the first page the user sees would be the Teams page within the sports page. The sport page would have a submenu for a user to jump to specific content within that sport page. SCHEDULES PAGE This page would be the master schedule for this sport. The default view will be to varsity level sports. The user would use a responsive team dropdown to jump to a particular team schedule for that sport. Each line on the schedule would show the home and away team, the site of the game, and the time/result. If the game has been played and a result is entered, the result would show with the winner marked. Each home and away team would be hyperlinked so that a user can click on each team to jump to that team’s schedule for that sport. TEAMS PAGE This page would list all the teams competing in that respective sport. It would filter to the highest classification first with the list of those schools by district or region. The user would be able to click on the different classifications to show the schools by the other classifications. Under each school name, two hyperlinks would appear: one for schedule and the other for roster. Clicking on either would take to user to that respective page within the sport page.

SCORES PAGE The scoreboard page would load the scores for the day for that respective sport. If the scoreboard is accessed from the main home page, then all scores for that day are shown for all sports, and the user would have the ability to select a different sport from the drop down menu. This has some room for development discretion based on the amount of games that may be displayed if displaying all sports at once. Users can also narrow the scoreboard down further (after selecting a respective sport) to show only scores from a particular class or region or district. This will pertain to varsity sports only. STANDINGS PAGE The standings page would display the varsity standings by region and/or district. The user could click on the different classifications to access the standings within that particular classification. BRACKETS PAGE This page would load the state tournament brackets for the respective sport. If accessed from the home page then the user would have to select a sport before brackets could be populated. In phase 1, utilizing the existing iFrame with C2C is acceptable; however, it is the goal of the FHSAA to create a custom bracket that the FHSAA controls with its custom look by sport.    

We would want to have print ability for the end user and a way for the FHSAA to archive past state tournament brackets for each sport accessible through the website as well. The games entered into the brackets would feed onto the scoreboard page as well as the respective schedule pages Tournament brackets can consist of both team and individual (i.e. tennis) and may or may not be double elimination in some cases Tournament brackets/results may be sourced from more than just C2CSchools after phase 1 team sports. Wrestling would link or embed from TrackWrestling.com. Swim, Track would link/embed HiTek.

TOURNAMENT INFO PAGE The tournament info page is where fans will go to view all the pertinent details of the state tournament including:    

Tournament Schedule Tournament Venues Admission Fees Lodging

03/03/2014

FHSAA Fan Site Request for Proposal and Business Requirements

 

Broadcast Information How Teams Qualify for State or Region Tournaments

The headers should be unique in look with the content under each header.

ARTICLES PAGE This page will display articles from various sources, including:   

Staff generated articles C2CSchools.com Editorial Content Newspapers/Online Entities via RSS Feeds

Staff generated content should have a title and byline and short summary the user can see. The user can click on the article to load the entire article. It is the goal of the FHSAA, in working with C2CSchools.com, to be able to display editorial content written by C2CSchools.com in full text, citing the source of that article. The main content driver will be staff generated articles; however, the FHSAA would like to utilize RSS feeds to bring in article content from around the state. Those articles will essentially display a headline hyperlinked to open the article in a new site.

SCHOOL PAGES The main purpose of a school page is to display all information relevant to that school with a sub menu specific to the school down the left side listing the sports that school participates in. Clicking on the sport would load the roster and schedule for that sport on a single page. The names on the schedule would be hyperlinked so that a user could jump to that schools page. The main school page should display the following:   

The “Latest Results” with the most varsity recent scores o sports can be mixed within but need to be identified A “Schedule of Events” with the latest varsity schedules coming up o sports can be mixed within but need to be identified The page should feature the inclusion of the NFHS Network widget that lists the upcoming games involving that school only. The development company will need to work with the NFHS Network on the coding in of that widget.

An idea to enhance the look of the school pages within the site is to utilize school colors on the respective school pages. Without knowing the size and scope of this secondary project (i.e. the need to track down specific color codes of every member school if not readily available), this may be a future development request. The FHSAA

03/03/2014

FHSAA Fan Site Request for Proposal and Business Requirements

would like to explore this option during development and have the company quote out the cost associated with this separately. The FHSAA would then make a decision as to when to initiate this feature.

VIDEOS PAGE This would be the place to go for FHSAA video. Video will be sourced from multiple providers. The FHSAA works with Bright House and has its own YouTube page. The NFHS Network is also a provider of video content to some extent. Ideally the goal would be to embed players for these sources within the FHSAAFanatic pages. Depending on the source, the video may need to link externally for player (i.e. the NFHS Network/school broadcast paid content that lives on the NFHS Network site). The idea would be to allow the FHSAA to select the source of the video in the admin, along with all the pertinent details, i.e. title, subject, date, time, etc. and the main page would pull the proper video source for the player. In articles, the FHSAA would like to be able to reference a video in an article when needed and have that video play within the article. All videos however would be housed on the videos page. This page should also incorporate a “What’s on” Schedule that will feed from the NFHS Network with the games the FHSAA member schools or the Network are doing live or on-demand. Those links would open the video up on the NFHS Network page in a new window.

SELECTION OF DEVELOPMENT COMPANY The FHSAA reserves the right to select up to three final bids and negotiate the terms of development to finalize a contract with the chosen development company. Remember, the proposal is due back to the FHSAA no later than the close of business of Monday, March 24, 2014.
