Vol. 23 Issue 1

For the family and friends of YT

It’s what to read!

Yours Truly introduces gluten-free menu Recently, there’s been a rise in demand for gluten-free foods in restaurants. In response, Yours Truly Restaurants has introduced a gluten-free menu, which it is testing in all eight locations. According to Lee Ann DiBiase, MS/RD/LD, a registered dietician at Summa Health System, there are a number of reasons why someone might opt for glutenfree foods. “People with certain diseases, such as celiac disease, cannot have gluten in their diets. For others, it’s simply a lifestyle choice. They might want a low-carb diet, have allergy like symptoms, or, in some instances, just feel better overall when eliminating gluten from their diet,” says DiBiase.

Yours Truly Restaurants President Dixie Singer says, “As more and more people are opting for a gluten-free diet, we reviewed and made additions to our already extensive menu, providing more options for those diners. Even with our strict adherence to following food preparation procedures, we cannot guarantee that the items have not come in contact with gluten-containing food products in our kitchen, or even in the air.”

Gluten-free options Here’s a sample of gluten-free selections. For additional items, please view the gluten-free menu at any YT location or online at ytr.com. Authentic Lebanese Hummus A family recipe made with the freshest and most authentic ingredients, topped with extra virgin olive oil and chopped tomato, served with veggies Spinach and Onion Sautéed with lemon and extra virgin olive oil Salads Gluten-free salads are served with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar

A Veggie Omelet is one of the many items included on the Gluten-Free Menu. Enjoy it with golden hash browns or Udi’s gluten-free toast.

One of the items Yours Truly now offers is Udi’s gluten-free bread. Udi’s Healthy Living, based in Colorado, has won many taste awards for its products and is an industry leader. “Choosing Udi’s was consistent with our overall goal of providing delicious food of the highest quality,” explains Singer.

“Yours Truly is making an excellent choice by offering gluten-free menu options. People who dine out with a gluten-free friend or family member know that choices can be very limited. Now they can have their favorite menu items with gluten-free breads or other substitutes,” says DiBiase. The gluten-free menu includes specialty items, like gluten-free pancakes, in addition to traditionally gluten-free selections, such as Authentic Lebanese Hummus or Asian Veggies, and is available in the restaurants and online at www.ytr.com (click on Menus Tab).

Mackenzie, before hair donation (left) and with her sister, Meredith, (right) after haircut

Mackenzie Millward, a manager at YT Shaker Square, recently donated over 16 inches of her beautiful long hair to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long term medical hair loss. What does Mackenzie think about her new style? “It’s much easier to maintain, but my neck is cold! Can’t wait for spring!”

Kids play is a party pleaser

Order Kids Play for your next party at www.clevelandpartytrays.com

It’s party time! It can be challenging planning a party for a group of picky little palates. YT has created a trio of catering items that are sure to please kids of all ages! The Kids Play bundle combines a 20piece Chicken Finger Tray, a Fruit and Cheese tray, and a tray of Macaroni and Cheese. The Kids Play package is $90 and serves 14-16.

Perhaps Justin McDannel moonlights as a knight in shining armor? When Shaker Heights resident Laura Salkin couldn’t get out of her running car because the locks were frozen, she went to a place where she is a familiar face - Yours Truly Beachwood. She called the restaurant from her cell phone in the parking lot and told them her dilemma. YT General Manager Justin McDannel to the rescue! “I had a car that used to do that all the time in the winter,” said McDannel. Salkin says, “He was my knight in shining armor. He got me out of the car, and while I ate dinner in your lovely safe haven, he was able to fix the lock so I could drive home that night. Where else can one get such service!”

Blast from the past Throughout 2014, as Yours Truly celebrates its 33rd anniversary, a column in each issue of The Register will reflect on the history of the restaurants by looking through the newsletter archives. Upcoming articles will look at what’s changed or stayed the same, product hits and misses and more. Enjoy a stroll down memory lane! Beachwood Lunch Fax. In 1996, a newsletter issue touted the popularity of YT Beachwood’s new lunch fax where guests could fax their lunch or dinner order. That “tech dinosaur” has been replaced by cell phones for calling in a carryout order quickly.

Menu hits. In the 90’s, the ever-popular Killit Skillet was introduced and flavored and specialty coffees became the rage. Chicken Caesar Salad and Cajun Pepper Steak Soup were also introduced and remain popular items today.

ytr.com

Menu misses. A few items introduced in the 90’s that no longer have a regular place on the menu include chicken sausage, Dixie Dogs, and frozen raspberry yogurt.

Guest correspondence. A 1996 newsletter issue shared some letters guests had written to Yours Truly. Guests have always loved sharing their stories about dining at YT but now there are so many more ways to communicate, from comment cards, ytr.com, Facebook and Twitter to online review sites like TripAdvisor, Yelp and Urbanspoon. YT always appreciates hearing about your dining experiences.

Teamwork. This motivational acronym appeared in a 1996 newsletter. It’s as true now as it was 18 years ago. When YT servers, cooks, hosts, dishwashers and managers all work together as a team, they accomplish more.
