When solid and stranded wires are used, be careful because the thickness of usable wires varies. Stranded Wire: Strip the outer covering to the defined length (8~10mm) and solder it. Suitable wires are AWG 22 ~ 26. Solid Wire: Strip the outer covering to the defined

length

(8~10mm).

Suitable

wires are AWG 20 ~ 26.

Inserting/removing wires For inserting into or removing wires from the TERMINAL BLOCK, push the lever as shown in the figure.

9.6 Connecting Video In/Out For the SVR-1630, the loop through Video In and Out automatically detects the connection status and sets the terminal resistance. For example, if only Video In is connected, the terminal resistance is internally set to 75Ω. If both Video In and Out are connected, the terminal resistance is changed to Hi-z. Therefore, for connecting both Video In and Out, the terminal resistance receiving the signal should be set to 75Ω.

10.2 Adding and Replacing External Storage Device 10.2.1 IEEE1394 Port The SVR-1630 used IEEE1394 for the external storage device interface. It has two IEEE1394 ports, one each on the front and rear panel. With them the SVR-1630 can expand storage capacity up to 4TB.

Some IEEE1394 bays may not be recognized by the SVR-1630. Before purchasing, consult your local vendor to confirm compatibility.

10.2.2 Connecting IEEE1394 Device When using a FireWire supported external HDD, hard drive bays can be connected to a port in the front panel or a port in the rear panel. The SVR-1630 does not supply power to the hard drive bay; therefore only bays that use external power can be used.

When an external HDD is connected while the SVR-1630 is running, the SVR-1630 should correctly detect the external HDD. If it doesn’t, it is recommended to try connection as follows. 1. Power off the SVR-1630 and external HDD. 2. Connect the external HDD to the IEEE1394 port. 3. Power on the external device. 4. Power on the SVR-1630

SVR-1630

1. HDD 1.1 Fundamental Notions & Terms 1.1.1 SVR-1630 Storing Structure (VFS2) Samsung Techwin has developed a unique storage system suitable for SVR and has applied it to the SVR1630. The basic features are described below.

(1) It is theoretically possible to connect 3 physical HDDs internally (Internal, ATA Interface) and 24 HDDs externally (External: 2 IEEE1394 ports). The total number of HDDs that can be connected internally and externally is 24. (2) All of the connected HDDs are recognized as one virtual disk, and the SVR-1630 supports up to 4TB. (3) The HDD that is firstly connected becomes the primary disk and other HDDs are classified to auxiliary disks.

ATA (or EIDE) supports two channel interfaces (Primary/Secondary). Each channel can be connected to two devices (Master/Slave, HDD/CD-ROM). The Primary Interface connects a total of two HDDs and the Secondary Interface connects the HDD Rack and CD-RW. In order to prevent confusion with the VFS2’s Primary Disk, we will not use the terms Primary/Secondary.

(4) Each disk is composed of a Log Partition and a Schedule Partition.

Log Partition

To store recorded data information

Schedule Partition

To store images recorded according to the storing schedule

1.1.2 Backup (1) Backup is possible only through an IEEE1394 port, and the HDD for backup should be formatted to the FAT32 type. (The type is indicated as [F] in the Disk Manager.)

SVR-1630

1.1.3 Disk Manager (1) When an HDD is added or deleted physically, the Disk Manager runs automatically after rebooting. If it doesn’t, you can run “MenuÆDiskÆDisk Manager” from the console.

(2) HDD Type [R]

(3) HDD Managing Command Add

Adds an HDD for recording. The HDD added is automatically formatted.

Add Used

Adds an HDD that has been used and formatted. There is no need to reformat. Only possible when the HDD is added as a Primary Disk.

Remove

Removes the current HDD. HDDs can be reused without data loss by using the ‘Add Used’ command.

Confirm Removed

Used when a removed HDD is still listed. ALL DATA WILL BE LOST!

1.2 Replacing HDDs 1.2.1 Checking HDDs The DVR file system (VFS2) automatically detects bad sectors, and bad sectors detected are not used. The cases below are for when an HDD fails or has some connection problems. (1) When replaying is stopped, or the DVR is rebooted in a specific sector during playback, or when it is not possible to search images by event. (2) When recording is stopped and the “Disk Manager” shows the HDD type as [X]

1.2.2 When the primary disk fails When the primary HDD fails, none of the data in the connected HDDs can be used. So the failed HDD should be replaced and all the connected HDDs should be removed, added and formatted again.

1.2.3 When an auxiliary disk fails The failed auxiliary disk should be replaced and reinstalled in “Disk Manager”. (“Add” -> “Format”).

1.3 Keeping Data To keep stored data for certain periods or semi-permanently, you should separate and keep HDDs with data on them.

1.3.1 Backup (1) Connect a backup HDD to an IEEE1394 port. (2) Go to playback mode by pressing the [Playback] button. (3) Press the [COPY] button.

(4) Run the “Backup Manager” by selecting the “Backup Data” menu.

(5) Set the backup range and press the “Start” button after selecting the backup HDD.

1. Backup HDDs should be formatted to the FAT32 type. 2. Backup data can be played on a PC with dedicated players such as SVR Manager or MiniPlayer. 3. Backup data is made as one “*.re3” file. If the file size is over 2GB, it may not be recognized normally because of the PC file system structure. 4. In the course of backup, the “Auto Delete” function doesn’t work. If the HDD is full, recording may be stopped instantly. 5. For more detailed information on the SVR Manager’s backup, please refer to the “SVR Manager User Guide”.

SVR-1630

1.3.2 Separating and Preserving HDDs HDDs with data on them can be kept separately only when the HDD is installed and used in the DVR (including the primary disk and RAID). It is recommended to use an external HDD rather than an internal HDD. In other words only connect one external HDD, and then keep it when it is full of data.

Data on preserved HDDs can only be played when the HDD is connected to the DVR.

1.3.3 Cautions For HDD handling or guarantees, apply to the after sales service of the HDD manufacturer. Any data losses caused by user error shall not be subject to the warranty.
