Dr. D. L. U YTTENBOOGAART (Renkum). VI. Description o! a new genus and species belonging to the Carabidae, by Dr. D. L. UYTTEKBOOCAART. In the introdiiction to his “Coleoptera Atlantiduin” Wollaston supposes that a proper iiivestigation of the laurelforest of El Dormrns i i i Gran Canaria, would bring to light many new species of beetles. Following tliis indicatioii 1 visited the poor remains of this once majestic forest ’) ¡n October 1927, eiitering the woods from the sniall cluster of farms called Los Tilos. Our party of three worked hard, principally bj* sifting leaves and lose barlc from the laurels aiid by turiiiiig stones. T h e result surpassed our expectation. T w o iiew species of Staphylinidae (described by Dr. h I . 4 ~BERNHAUER iii T. v. E. 7 I .4.), a new Tarphius (descriptioii to be published later on) and a iiew geiius and species belonging to t h e Carabidae were detected. T h e identification of the latter proved to be a very difficult business, as it united characteristics of maiiy different genera. 1 am much obliged to Ur. FRIW VAN EMDEN, custos of the Entomological departnient of the Museum a t Dresden for his help. It is due to his investigatioil that the right place in the system of this most remarkable genus can be secured.
