FAST FACTS AND FIGURES
July 2012
Our business Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has in just eight years established itself as the world’s leading airline. Set up by Royal (Amiri) Decree in July 2003, Etihad Airways commenced commercial operations in November 2003 and has gone on to become one of the fastest growing airlines in the history of commercial aviation. This airline has received a range of awards that reflect its position as the leading premium airline brand in the world, including ‘World’s Leading Airline’ at the World Travel Awards in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Its main business is the international air transportation of passengers. Etihad Airways also operates Etihad Holidays, Etihad Cargo and a global contact centre organisation as part of its commercial group.
Highlights Etihad Airways achieved a 31 per cent increase in its Q2 2012 revenues to US$1.25 billion (2011: US$957 million), contributing to first half 2012 revenues up 30 per cent to US$2.24 billion (US$1.73 billion). Passenger numbers leapt to 2.55 million in Q2, up 34 per cent, and to 4.89 million in the half year, thanks to increased overall capacity and improved seat factors. The record results were boosted by the airline’s growing network of codeshares and strategic partnerships which together fed 800,000 passengers into Etihad Airways’ network in the last six months, contributing US$281 million.

Our partners airberlin In December 2011 Etihad Airways increased its stake in airberlin – Europe’s sixth largest airline and Germany’s second biggest carrier – to 29.21 per cent, making Etihad Airways airberlin’s single largest shareholder. Under the agreement, Etihad Airways has two seats on the Board of Directors of Air Berlin PLC. The deal was Etihad Airways’ first equity investment in another airline. Under the partnership, airberlin now operates daily flights from Berlin and Düsseldorf to Abu Dhabi, and additionally operates daily services from Abu Dhabi to Phuket in Thailand. Etihad Airways codeshares on all airberlin flights to/from Abu Dhabi and beyond the four German hubs of Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich to a number of points in Europe and North America which, when combined, provide passengers with access to an additional 976 flights per week. Etihad Airways also codeshares on flyNiki flights beyond Frankfurt, Munich and Milan into Vienna. Members of both airlines’ frequent flyer programs, Etihad Guest and airberlin topbonus, can earn rewards and status miles on each other’s flights. Air Seychelles In January 2012 Etihad Airways acquired a 40 per cent stake in Air Seychelles Ltd. as part of a strategic partnership. The agreement, the first of its kind in Africa, includes a five-year management contract for Etihad Airways which will see the implementation of strategic measures to encourage Air Seychelles’ long-term commercial growth. The airlines have also signed a comprehensive codeshare agreement to include Etihad Airways-marketed flights across Air Seychelles’ network, providing Etihad Airways’ passengers access to around 100 extra flights per week. Air Seychelles cooperate on Etihad Airways flights from the Seychelles to Abu Dhabi and beyond, to Etihad Airways’ destinations across Europe, the Middle East, the GCC, Asia and Australia. Etihad Guest and Seychelles Bonus, the airlines’ frequent flyer programs, have been integrated to include mileage earning and redemption on each other’s flights. Aer Lingus Etihad Airways and Aer Lingus have signed an historic interline and codeshare agreement which follows the UAE national airline’s recent 2.987 per cent equity investment in the Irish carrier in May 2012. Within the agreement Etihad Airways places its “EY” code on Aer Lingus flights from Dublin, Manchester and London Heathrow, to destinations in Ireland, the British Isles, the Channel Islands, Portugal, the Netherlands and the US, providing passengers with access to an additional 242 flights per week. In return, Aer Lingus will place its “EI” code on Etihad Airways flights between Abu Dhabi and Dublin, and have full access to flights across the network beyond Abu Dhabi to points including Australia, Asia-Pacific, the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East.
