A foreign national, who was eligible to become citizen of India on 26.01.1950 or was a citizen of India on or at anytime after 26.01.1950 or belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15.08.1947 and his/her children and grand children, provided his/her country of citizenship allows dual citizenship in some form or other under the local laws, is eligible for registration as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). Minor children of such person are also eligible for OCI. However, if the applicant had ever been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh, he/she will not be eligible for OCI. Q.No.3 What is the fee for issue of OCI card? Fee for issue of OCI card is Euro 216/-. In addition a consular surcharge of Euro 2/has to be paid per application. Q.No.4 My child is a minor. How much I have to pay for issue of OCI card for him/her? Fee for issue of OCI card for an adult or a minor is the same and one is required to pay Euro 218 (including consular surcharge of Euro 2/) for the service. Q.No. 7 How long it takes to get an OCI card? The processing/grant and receipt may take over 6 weeks after receipt of OCI application, duly completed in all respect. The applicant is advised not to finalize a travel plan in advance in anticipation of receipt of OCI card. They will get intimation as soon as the OCI card is received from Delhi.

Being holders of Indian passports, you are not eligible for OCI cards. As per rules, if the parents are not eligible for OCI cards, the minor child is also not eligible for OCI card. However, you may apply for a PIO card in respect of your child. The child will become eligible for OCI card after attaining the age of 18 Years. Q.No. 12 If I wish to change my minor son’s/daughter’s PIO card to an OCI card, how much fee I will have to pay?

For a minor child who is holding PIO card, OCI fee will be Euro 116/. (Including consular surcharge of Euro 2)

Q.No. 13 Am I supposed to surrender my Indian nationality before applying for an OCI card? If so what is the procedure. Yes. OCI applicants are required to surrender their Indian passports to the Consulate and obtain a Surrender Certificate. The OCI applicants of Baden Wurttemberg and Bayern who have acquired German nationality on or after 1st June 2010 and surrendered their Indian passports to the German authorities, may obtain Surrender Certificate from the Consulate General of India, Munich upon submission of a documentary proof of the surrender of the Indian passport to the German authorities. Fee for this service will be Euro 117(including consular surcharge of Euro 2/-) The application may be submitted to the Consulate along with a photo-copy of the nationality certificate, copy of German Passport and copy of the Indian passport that has already been surrendered. In case the original Indian passport is with the applicant, it must be submitted to the Consulate for cancellation. The OCI applicants, who acquired German nationality before 1st June 2010 and surrendered their Indian passports to the German authorities, may obtain an acknowledgement regarding surrender of passport/Indian nationality from the Consulate General of India, Munich upon submission of a documentary proof of the surrender of the Indian passport to the German authorities. Fee for this service will be Euro 14 (including consular surcharge of Euro 2/-) Application may be made using the Miscellaneous Services Form (http://cgimunich.de/download/misc-application.pdf) along with a photo-copy of the nationality certificate, copy of German Passport and copy of the Indian passport that has already been surrendered. In case the original Indian passport is with the applicant, it must be submitted to the Consulate for cancellation Q.No. 14 I do not have any proof of having surrendered my Indian Passport. Can I still obtain the Acknowledgement of Surrender of Indian Citizenship? Those applicants who have ever held Indian passports and are unable to produce the same for surrender for any reason (loss/misplaced long time ago) are required to furnish a notarised affidavit (if the passport has already expired) and police report (in cases where Indian passport is still valid) along with copy of the Indian passport, if available, and should follow the procedure mentioned in FAQ No.13 above. Those who have submitted to the German authorities long time ago, they should bring a letter from the local authorities about receipt of Indian passport at German Office. Copy of the Indian passport, if available, may be submitted to the Consulate and procedure may be followed as mentioned in FAQ No.13 above. Q.No. 14 Being an OCI card holder, for how many times can I travel to India every year?. The OCI card holders can travel to India any number of times.

Q.No. 15 I am OCI card holder, for how long can I stay in India on a single visit? Is there any stay stipulation for OCI card holder on a single visit? There is no stay stipulation for an OCI card holder. An OCI cardholder can stay for as long as required during each visit. Q.No.16 Do OCI card holders require to register themselves on arrival in India? There is no requirement of registration for an OCI cardholder. They are exempted from registration with local police authority for any length of stay in India. Q.No.17 Can OCI card holder take up an employment in India? Yes. Q.No.18 Can OCI card holder indulge in gainful business? Yes. Q.No.19 Are there any activity not allowed for OCI card holder? OCI card holders are required to take permission for undertaking mountaineering, missionary and research work. They cannot visit Protected/Restricted Areas without permission. They do not any voting rights in India.
