FANUC HIGH SPEED SERIAL BUS FOR 30i SERIES CONNECTING AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
Introduction This manual describes information (electrical and structural specifications) to connect 30 i Series (FANUC series 30i /31 i /32 i /300 i /310 i /320 i/300 is /310 is /320 is) with personal computer or PANEL i by FANUC High Speed Serial Bus (HSSB). This manual also provides maintenance information. (Parts number of printed circuit board (PCB) and LED display etc.) Use this manual together with operation’s manual, connecting and maintenance manual for CNC or PANEL i. This manual is applied to the following options and PCBs. • Mainboard for Stand Alone type CNC • Interface board for CNC • Interface board for Personal Computer • Optical Fiber Cable
30 i Series represents “FANUC series 30i /31 i /32 i /300 i /310 i /320 i/300 is /310 is /320 is“ in this manual. PC is short for Personal Computer. Note. “High Speed Serial Bus for 30i Series “ and “High Speed Serial Bus Type1 or Type 2” are not compatible.
If you need connecting and maintenance information of FANUC HIGH SPEED SERIAL BUS Type 1 (A20B-8001-0300), refer to TMN 96/006E “FANUC HIGH SPEED SERIAL BUS CONNECTING AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL” (A-72923E). If you need connecting and maintenance information of FANUC HIGH SPEED SERIAL BUS Type 2, refer to TMN 02/036E “FANUC HIGH SPEED SERIAL BUS TYPE 2 CONNECTING AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL” (A-73527E).

(3) Points to Notice for Handing Optical Fiber Cables
Fragile Handle with care because optical cables are fragile. ・ Optical fiber cable is reinforced with covers and it has enough mechanical strength. But you must not drop heavy materials on it. ・ When plugging and unplugging of the optical connector, you should hold part of connector. You must not pull the fiber cord at unplugging. (The maximum tensile strength between the optical fiber code and connector is 2kg. If the fiber cord is pulled strongly, the optical connector may be broken. ) ・ The optical connector is automatically locked by connection with a lock lever on the upper side. You must release the lock lever when you pull the optical connector. ・ It is impossible that the optical connector is plugged upside down. You should make sure the direction of the connector. ・ The optical connector should be processed as follows before wiring of the optical fiber cable. Fix a reinforced cable to a wire with hook or tension member by tapes. Pull the wire with the hook or tension member at wiring. Take enough care that optical connector does not receive pulling strength. Optical Connector

If the tensile strength is not exerted between the reinforced cable and the optical connector, you may not to apply these processes and you may pull reinforced cable at wiring.

・ You should fix the part of reinforced cable with cable clamp. (Refer to the follow figure) If cable is not clamped, large tensile strength may be added directly to the connecting part of connection by its own weight. Optical Connector Optical Fiber cord
Bending radius should be more than 25mm. Please make it as large as possible.
Cable clamp with sponge (CKN-13SP is recommended by Kitagawa Industries Co.,)
Reinforced Cable
Bending radius should be more than 50mm. Please make it as large as possible
・ Notice that the optical connector’s end does not become dirty. If it is dirty, remove the dirt with clear mild gauze lightly (the gauze with ethyl alcohol is applicable). The other organic solvent than ethyl alcohol must not be used. ・ If excessive cable is looped repeatedly, the diameter of the loop should be as large as possible. (The ideal is more than 150mm) If the diameter of the loop is small, the transferred loss of the light become large, and there is a possibility that the communication does not work properly. (Real diameter of the loop may be less than allowable size if the loop is formed as 150mm or less.) ・ If the cable is fixed with nylon band etc., you should pay attention that the bending radius becomes shorter by pulling the cable. ・ The part of code should not be fixed with the nylon band. The part of reinforced cable should be tied with the nylon band lightly (force of tightening should be 5kg or less).

4. Maintenance Operation(Boot, IPL) (1) Outline Ncboot32.exe can be used for the maintenance of the CNC. Unless otherwise specified, the following examples assume the use of Ncboot32.exe of the Windows 2000/XP version. Ncboot32.exe provides the following functions: - BOOT screen (for CNC system data maintenance, SRAM backup and so forth) - IPL screen (for clearing SRAM, and so forth) - Display of the CNC power-on screen - Display of CNC alarm screen - Re-connection in case of the occurrence of a communication error - Start of a registered application program For Windows 2000/XP, Ncboot32.exe is copied to the System 32 folder of Windows during driver installation. At the start of Windows, Ncboot32.exe starts automatically, and resides in the system tray.
(2) Changing Start Sequence Placing the rotary switch on the CNC main board to the F position allows you to perform maintenance using the BOOT and IPL screens.
During normal operation (rotary switch 0) 1. CNC wait until communication is established.(In case of BOOT software is old, CNC does not wait.) 2. PC performs initialization described below after communication is established. - Start FOCAS2. - Start registered application programs. - Perform monitoring for communication errors and CNC system alarms.
During maintenance (rotary switch F) 1. Wait until communication with the CNC is established. 2. PC performs initialization described below after communication is established. - Display the boot screen. - Display the IPL screen. - Display the CNC power-on screen. - Start FOCAS2. - Start registered application programs. - Perform monitoring for communication errors and CNC system alarms.
Note. A keyboard for personal computer is necessary for maintenance.
