1. Glannon, Perlman & Raven-Hansen, Civil Procedure: A Coursebook (2d ed. 2014 ) 2. Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, accompanying federal statutes, and provisions of U.S. Constitution. I strongly recommend that you use the rulebook that accompanies the Glannon textbook.

REQUIRED * CLICK AND LEARN: A GUIDE TO CIVIL PROCEDURE by Gilles, Ho and Upchurch (forthcoming in Carolina Press). *Relevant provisions of the Constitution, Federal Statutes and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. You can access these in two ways: - First, they are available free online. Some sites allow you to download or print them. One good source is http://www.law.cornell.edu/rules/frcp. - OR, second, there is a hand out I will prepare and post on TWEN that has the relevant provisions. RECOMMENDED - INSIDE CIVIL PROCEDURE: WHAT MATTERS & WHY, by Howard M. Erichson (2nd Edition, 2012 Aspen Publishers—do not get the first edition) ISBN: 9781454810971(Price: $43.95). This is a short “big picture” guide to Civil Procedure. Mauet, Pretrial, Ninth Edition, Aspen Publishers, Inc. (2012), ISBN 978-1-4548-5633-7 (Syllabus shows pages for both 9th ed. and 8th ed. UNDERSTANDING CONTRACTS, 3d ed., by Jeffrey T. Ferriell (ISBN 978-0769898087). Note: The casebook presents the material you need to learn primarily through cases. In contrast, UNDERSTANDING CONTRACTS is a treatise that presents the material in a more descriptive way. In practice, lawyers use treatises to get an overview of the law before they begin their research on a specific topic. Similarly, I suggest that you read about the topic in UNDERSTANDING CONTRACTS before you read the assigned pages in the casebook. Getting a general overview will help you understand the assigned cases: it will help you focus on the key issues, identify the rules, and follow the court’s analysis.

It is the Third edition (2008) of the book “We the Students” by Jamin Raskin (CQ Press ISBN 978-0-87289-761-8). (I will also expect you to refer to your Con Law and Crim Pro casebooks for more comprehensive treatments of the cases). Required Statutory Supplement: Mann, Warren & Westbrook, Comprehensive Commercial Law 2016 Statutory Supplement (Wolters Kluwer) (hereinafter referred to as the “Code Book”) ISBN: 978-1-4548-75383 (or the 2014 or 2015 versions of the same supplement.) Although students are permitted to purchase ANY professionally-published commercial law supplement containing the current versions of Articles 3, 4 and 4A of the Uniform Commercial Code and Federal Regulation CC, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you purchase a recent edition of the Mann, Warren & Westbrook supplement identified above. Other supplements may be idiosyncratic in their inclusion of revisions and amendments, which may lead to confusion. In the past, students who have purchased other supplements have discovered necessary subsections missing and extraneous code sections included. Given the complexity of the material, it is probably worth the extra cost (if any) to purchase the recommended supplement! If you purchase a supplement other than the one referenced above, be certain that your book contains the 2001 Revision of Article 1 of the U.C.C., as that is the version in effect in Ohio and the one we will be studying. The 2001 Revision of Article 1 is easily identifiable because it contains a “Part 3” and has code sections numbered in the 1-300s (for example, sections 1-301, 1-305, etc.). If a student uses a supplement that is missing one or more of these legal sources, he or she will be responsible for obtaining access to the material. If a student uses a supplement containing superseded law, that student is responsible for obtaining the current law. Books published within the last three years should be sufficiently current. Optional Additional Reference: James Brook, Examples and Explanations: Payment Systems (Wolters Kluwer 5th ed.) (earlier editions on library reserve) ISBN: 978-1-4548-1767-3 [You may also use the 4th ed. It’s basically the same.]
