Friday 22nd January, 2016 From the Headmaster I would like to apologise in advance for the lack of tin foil available in the vicinity this weekend, as the staff here at Fairfield have been extremely creative in preparing for Thursday’s Space Day. Inspired by Tim Peake’s epic spacewalk last week, the children have had a once in a lifetime insight to the trials and tribulations of space travel. I must admit that I was more than a little surprised to hear that a ‘massive statue’ was amongst the Year 1’s list of essential items for a journey into space! Focusing on events closer to home, the children have participated in the Dance-a-thon with great gusto, as can be seen from the photographs below and on my Twitter feed @ffdheadmaster. Year 1 have been treading the boards with the Nottingham Roundabout Theatre Company whilst Year 6 have visited the ‘Warning Zone’, fresh from their senior entrance examinations last week. And so, what better way to wrap-up a fun filled week than with a nice calming game of BINGO tonight! Let’s hope there are no power cuts this year-but rest assured, the torches and candles are at the ready should the need arise!
Well Fairfield have really had their dancing shoes on this week and have shown some great moves on the dance floor! We had a lot of fun taking part in the dance a thon and our Year 6’s did a brilliant job teaching the actions to the rest of the school. Thank you to everyone who took part. Please bring in all sponsor money as soon as possible but no later than Friday 5th February 2016. We look forward to telling you how much we have raised!
The PTA are proud to announce that a huge £2897.09 was raised at Christmas is Coming. We would like once again to thank all parents, children, staff and family members for all of your help and support - we couldn’t do it without you! Look out for updates soon outlining the exciting ways we will be supporting the school with the funds raised this year…
If you are interested in wildlife and have some spare time on the weekend of 30 th and 31st January, why not take part in The Big Garden Birdwatch. To take part, just go onto the RSPB website to order an information pack, (see the website address below). https://ww2.rspb.org.uk/discoverandenjoynature/discoverandlearn/birdwatch Mrs Saperia.

On Wednesday 20th January, Fairfield played 4 matches against Foremarke Prep School. The girls were keen and eager to build on their good start last week. The U11 ‘A’ team started well and were 2 - 0 up after the first ¼, they maintained the lead until the end of the 3rd ¼ when Foremarke drew level. Fairfield upped their game with some accurate passing and shooting in the final ¼ to win 8-6. The U11 ‘B’ had a very competitive match with the ball going from end to end without either team having any shooting success. Fairfield went into the final ¼ 1-0 down but with some accurate passing and tighter marking finished the match with a well deserved 1-1 draw. The U10 ‘A’ team were playing their first game of the season and were so eager to put their skills into play. They intercepted the first centre pass and worked the ball well down the court to score. They quickly built up a 5-0 lead, giving the girls plenty of confidence. Throughout the game the girls demonstrated some excellent passing skills, working well together to regain possession all over the court. The final quarter gave the girls the opportunity to apply their skills to different positions which they did with energy and commitment. The final score was a fantastic 13-0 A fantastic performance which bodes well for the rest of the season. The U10 ‘B’ team also started brightly and were keen to build on their performance against Brooke Priory. Throughout the game they enjoyed the majority of possession. The first half saw them take an encouraging 4-0 lead. This enabled the team to field players in different positions which resulted in an even stronger second half performance, scoring another 6 goals. The girls should be very pleased with their performance and the final score of 10-0 Well done to all the girls involved. Thank you to Mrs Leah and Miss Greasley for umpiring and the parents for their support.

REPORTS
Football v LGJS The 1st team took to the football pitch for their second outing of the season against Leicester Grammar Junior School this Wednesday. We welcomed back some familiar faces to the starting line-up and we quickly secured a comfortable advantage, playing some lovely one-touch football in the process. Mr Bancroft continued to swap positions and personnel which hampered our fluency, though we went in 7-1 up at the break. The second half was closer as our positioning deteriorated, though we still ran out comfortable 10-2 victors. Another good performance on a tricky pitch. Next up, Spratton Hall on Saturday.
On Wednesday 20th January the U11 ‘B’ team played Leicester Grammar School at Fairfield. Leicester brought an ‘A’ team from both the Junior School and their Year 6 at the Senior School. As a result in the first half Fairfield found the opposition too strong and were 5 - 0 down at half time. The second half was a much more even encounter with both teams now having similar abilities. Fairfield started to pass the ball and create a few chances but with their only two positive attacks Leicester scored on both occasions. Fairfield deserved their goal but unfortunately ran out of time. The 2 - 1 score line did not fully reflect the match and Fairfield were unlucky to have not come away with at least a draw. Well played everyone but we must work on keeping our shape and not ball watching. Fairfield U10 ‘C’ hosted their first football fixture of the season. The game was played on a large pitch, allowing the boys to play 8-a-side. Fairfield looked eager from the off. The boys pressed Leicester Grammar and closed them down quickly. When Fairfield got possession, they broke quickly and passed the ball nicely up field. This combination worked well, Fairfield were winning 4-0 at half time. Leicester Grammar had a stronger second half and managed to pull one back. However, Fairfield continued to play quality football, keeping possession of the ball and having a lot of shots. Fairfield won 6-1, it was a pleasure to spectate. Let’s hope we can play similar football to this this Saturday away at Spratton Hall!

We are now settled into our new Kindergarten, having learned new routines last week we were ready to explore all the things that school has to offer. This week we have spent our time doing lots of different activities, exploring the school grounds and meeting new teachers. We had our first PE lesson with Mr Pitts and Mr Arnold and while practising for our Forest School we went for an explore around the grounds, taking in a pit stop in Reception with Mrs Alves. We have participated in Space Day, learning about the moon and stars and have even had a go at some ‘space’ yoga. At lunchtime we are being very adventurous and trying new food and practising our table manners . We are making lots of new friends and love exploring our classrooms and our outside play area.
