Fabricating Custom Aluminum Art Frames With the TS28 Extrusion CUTTING THE TS28 FRAME

With the TS28 extrusion it will be possible to build small to medium size Art Frames (Up to 137” x 137” - at launching time) with four PVC corners for strengthening the frame. Art frames are not designed to be screwed to a wall but hung like a framed painting or poster. The flat side of the extrusion is going to be against the wall.

It is a new low-cost aluminum extrusion specifically designed for building ART Frames This extruded aluminum bar is light and sturdy. The cutting could also be done using a miter box and an appropriate saw with a blade to cut through metal. A circular miter saw will give you the results.

Printed graphic media can be vinyl, fabric, canvas, poplin, polyester...

The target market segments are malls, banks, car dealers, hotel chains, casinos, museums, galleries, companies lobbies, board rooms, supermarkets, shops, etc…

The graphic will be fixed with the TS79 locking strip in the rear of the frame, so the locking bar will not be visible at all! The art piece (pictures, painting…) will be displayed frameless!

By prospecting these markets you will be able to generate revenue streams during Northern America winter when exterior activities are made difficult.

The extrusions are cut using a circular miter saw to get the frame sides.

The frame is assembled for verifications.

ASSEMBLING THE TS28 ALUMINUM FRAME

Four PVC corners are inserted…

And sides are assembled to create a corner

The frame is returned, front against the table. The corner is ready for screwing…

…self-tapping screws are used to rigidify the frame and facilitate the graphic installation.

Using a bit drive to maintain the self-tapping screw.

The first frame corner is ready… repeat the operations with the remaining corners. Screwing your frame corners will add rigidity and it will not move during the graphic installation

CUTTING AND ADJUSTING THE LOCKING STRIP The most convenient way to cut the TS79 PVC locking strip is to use a cutter as shown on the picture (CBC100 - Red handles – Cutter with changeable blade $24.95 on Tensioning Solutions Price list) On your cutter you will see two marks (45o and o 60 ) Here we will need to cut just between these o marks or roughly 52 . Draw a line with a permanent ink marker. This to have a seamless joint in the corner. If you o cut the TS79 at 45 , you will get a slight gap, but remember the locking strip is inserted in the rear of the frame, so it is not VISIBLE!

Firstly, cut your TS79…

o

Secondly, cut the ends of the TS79 at 52 …

Here there is the comparison between two pieces of TS79. The closest one with a piece of PVC removed using a simple cutter.

…and using a cutter remove a slanted piece of it. This will provide space to have a neat junction in the corner as shown on the picture.

Install the different TS79 on the frame to check the junction at the corners.
