PANELS

Your mural is shipped to you in separate panels. The number of panels depends on the length of your mural. They are rolled and packed in order with the first panel on the outside of the roll. The panels will be numbered at the top for your convenience. Before installation unroll your panels to: - check accuracy of your shipment - check order of panels for installation - check material for defects

BLEED

Each panel is printed with “bleed”, extra material at the top, bottom and sides that will assist with application, avoiding gaps near the ceiling or floor and between panels. Your panels will be installed with 1 inch overlap, not butted together like wallpaper.

LAMINATE

If you purchased the liquid laminate for added protection you will need additional supplies. Instructions are in a separate document provided by the manufacturer, found on imaginationdental.com/express. www.imaginationdental.com/express

APPLYING THE FIRST PANEL

PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY BEFORE BEGINNING INSTALL

1

PREP THE AREA

2

OLD WALL

Remove light fixtures, wall outlets and light switch covers. Follow proper safety procedure and turn off the breaker before performing this task.

Remove existing wallpaper. Repair peeling paint, cracks, and dents to provide a smooth finish. Walls painted with glossy paints should be sanded to a dull surface or primed for best results. White or light colored paint or primer is best.

NEW DRYWALL

Ensure that the putty over joints and nail heads is thoroughly cured and sanded smooth. New drywall should be primed with an opaque white primer.

CLEAN WALLS - Dirt and debris will cause tiny bumps in the material when applied. Make sure your walls have been wiped clean with a lint-free cloth.

3

ADHESIVE

ADHESIVE

Peel off 10 inches of the paper backing from the panel and cut it off. This allows the panel to lie flat while placing it. Do not let the adhesive touch itself.

PAPER BACKING

4

PAPER BACKING

Begin hanging from the top left corner. For long strips, use a free standing ladder and work from the top down. To begin use the hard edge of the supplied squeegee - this edge is best for getting sharp corners.

CEILING

Do not butt the edge of the material to the ceiling. There is a 3 inch bleed (extra material) at the top of the panel that will go past the wall and temporarily onto the ceiling. The bleed is to prevent a gap from forming at the top of the wall with additional panels if the alignment is off.

Most walls and ceilings are slightly out of alignment. Use a level to confirm that the panel is straight. USE A FRIEND! Use the level to draw a vertical line with a pencil to use as a guide, or hold the level against your panel to align it before you press the adhesive to the wall. Your first panel may not align perfectly with the corner of your wall. You may leave a tiny gap or overlap it slightly onto the side wall and cut off the excess. We have given you bleed on the opposite end of your mural to compensate.

Be careful when placing the first panel - additional panels will be aligned to this panel.

7

Once the top is straight and applied, peel the paper backing off and roll down a few inches at a time. Use the fabric edge of the supplied squeegee to smooth the mural onto the wall, gently moving bubbles out from the center to the edges of the panel or out the bottom. Do not forcefully rub the bubbles to the edge; this may damage the mural if done aggressively. If you get a stubborn bubble or a wrinkle, unstick the mural from the wall and smooth it out again. See Page 7 OUTLETS AND LIGHT SWITCHES if your panel will be placed over an outlet or switch. www.imaginationdental.com/express

Roll the paper backing off 10-15 inches at a time, smoothing out from the middle of the panel as you go. Don’t rush and try to do large sections at a time or more wrinkles may occur. Push the squeegee forward in both directions, never backwards or backhand.

You will have bleed (extra material) at the bottom of your mural. Smooth out the material against the top of your baseboards with the hard edge of the supplied squeegee. Leave this extra material for now or trim off with a straight edge and a utility knife. See Step 14 on Page 6 TRIMMING AND FINISHING for finishing details.

PAPER BACKING

PAPER BACKING

Repeat Step 3 on Page 2 to prep the next panel for hanging. Peel off 10 inches of the paper backing from the panel and cut it off. Placing the panel flat against the wall makes it easier to align with the panel beside it.

APPLYING ADDITIONAL PANELS

11

Don’t forget about the 3 inch bleed at the top of the panel when placing additional panels. Also, each panel is printed with 1 inch overlap on the edge. OVERLAP YOUR

PANELS; DO NOT BUTT THEM TOGETHER.

12

USE A FRIEND! Align the panels in the middle at eye height. Due to stretching and human error, some misalignment may occur. As long as the mural is perfectly aligned where it is most visible, small discrepancies at the top and bottom won’t be noticeable.

Once the panel is visually aligned in the middle, smooth the mural upwards towards the exposed backing. Once this is pressed firmly to the wall you may begin application as described in Step 7 on Page 3 for the first panel.

13

If you misalign the panel, our special material makes it possible to unpeel and try again. www.imaginationdental.com/express

TRIMMING AND FINISHING TRIMMING

14

Smooth out the edges with the hard edge of your squeegee to ensure adhesion before trimming.

Trim off the extra material at the bottom and top of each panel. Use a straight edge or ruler to guide your knife if necessary. Change the blade on your knife every panel for cleaner results.

FINISHING

After 24 hours you may have to go back over spots in the mural to flatten bubbles. Poke bubbles with a pin if you can’t smooth to an edge.

LAMINATING

We highly suggest that you use the clear coat laminate to finish the mural as the material is not washable. Apply the mural and wait three days before applying the laminate. See imaginationdental.com/express for laminate application instructions. www.imaginationdental.com/express

OUTLETS AND LIGHT SWITCHES

ENSURE BREAKER IS OFF BEFORE CUTTING AROUND OUTLET OR INJURY MAY OCCUR!

Before applying the mural: a) Remove the covers from your outlets and light switches. b) Place the mural with the backing still intact over the outlet and feel for its position to determine where to cut.

c

d

c) Cut close to the outlet so there are no gaps when you replace the cover. d) Remove the

mural backing and apply like normal, taking extra care to avoid wrinkles around this area.

2

Replace outlet covers and light fixtures.

APPLYING AROUND DOORS AND WINDOWS

1

8

To hang the mural around a window or door begin as described in Step 3 of APPLYING THE FIRST PANEL. Use the soft edge of the squeegee to smooth the mural from the ceiling down until you reach the frame.

2

We recommend that you cut off some of the excess mural just inside the frame so that you can see your work space more easily. Be careful not to cut off too much near the bottom of the window frame.

3

Use the hard edge of the squeegee to smooth the mural into the crease of the window frame to create a sharp edge.

4

Now you can make a more precise cut. You may use a straight edge to guide you or use the frame to guide as you cut. Use your hands to feel for the top left corner of the window or door trim. Starting from the corner use the knife to cut along the straight edge. Cut off the excess flap.

5

Continue smoothing the mural out along the side of the frame. Use the hard edge of the squeegee to press the mural into the crease.

6

You may use the straight edge or cut free hand. Cut the excess horizontal strip of mural along the edge until you hit the bottom corner.

7

Smooth the mural into the crease and down the remainder of the wall. Cut off the last flap of mural. After 24 hours you may have to go back over spots in the mural to flatten bubbles.
