Formatting tools

Merge & Center • Select the range of cells (A1 through J1 in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Alignment section, click Merge & Center.

Merge (but not Center) • Select the range of cells (A1 through L1 in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Alignment section, click the drop-down arrow and then click Merge Cells.

Format cell styles • Click the cell where you want to apply cell styles (A1 in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Styles section, click Cell Styles, and then click the specific cell style as required (Heading 1 in this example)

Add borders • Click the range of cells where you want to add borders (C3 through C60 in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Font section, click the drop-down list by the border , and then click More Borders… to open a border format dialog box. • Click the border style first (thick solid in this example), and then click the border position (left in this example) as required. Click OK.

Format cell values • Select the range of cells (C4 through G54 in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Number section, click the arrow at the rightbottom corner to open a number format dialog box. • In the number format category, click the number style and set the decimal places and/or other settings according to the instructions (Number in this example). Click OK.

Set row height/column width • Select the range of rows or columns (columns A through J in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Cells section, click Format, and then click Row Height… or Column Width… according to the instruction (Column width in this example). • Enter the specific number for row height or column width (18 in this example). Click OK.

AutoFit row height/column width • Select the range of rows or columns (columns A through L in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Cells section, click Format, and then click AutoFit Row Height or AutoFit Column Width according to the instruction (AutoFit column width in this example).

Format font size • Click the cell where you want to change font size (A1 in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Font section, click the drop-down arrow by the font size, and then click the specific size as required (16-point in this example).

Bold the contents • Click the cells or rows or columns where you want to bold (row 1 in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Font section, click B to bold the contents.

Change vertical alignment • Click the range of cells or rows or columns where you want to change vertical alignment (column A and B in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Alignment section, click the vertical align according to the instructions (Top align in this example).

Turn on text wrapping • Click the range of cells or rows or columns where you want to turn on text wrapping (column B in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Alignment section, click Wrap Text.

Apply conditional formatting (1) • Click the range of cells where you want to apply conditional formatting (C4 through G54 in this example) • View the Home ribbon. In the Styles section, click Conditional Formatting, and then choose Highlight Cells Rules, and click More Rules.

Apply conditional formatting (2) • In New Formatting Rule Dialog Box, edit the rule description according to the instructions • First, choose the comparator (the second drop-down list)     
