From your Director of Tennis - Kimberly Jones This past Friday, Kimberly and Christian won their Pro League match at The Landings by a score of 6-1 6-2. A number of Lexington members made the trip out to see us. It’s always nice when our members travel to see us. We take great pride in playing great for you. This was the last match of the year. Pro League will pick back up again on January 13th at Heritage Palms. 2nd Annual Swing & Ping Weekend Gosh! What a weekend this turned out to be! Team Swing (red), captained by Kimberly, squared off against Kris’ Team Ping (blue) in a two day battle of golf and tennis. After a 9 hole scramble, Team Swing and Team Ping accumulated exactly the same number of points. This meant that Sunday’s tennis matches would decide everything. Of the 8 matches played on Sunday, 6 of them went to tie-breakers. In the end, Kimberly’s Team Swing just edged out Team Ping by a score of 43-41. On the morning of December 31st, we invite you to our New Year’s Eve Morning Tennis Mixer! Play will begin at 9:30 am at the Lake Village courts. Members of all levels are welcome. Afterwards, we’ll head over to the Tiki Bar for drinks and Lunch. Call 985-1817 or visit the tennis shop to sign-up! Hi all you bird lovers! We’re now taking sign-ups for our Saturday morning social Bird League – Winter Session. Ladies of any level are welcome to join. It’s a FUN tennis league! The upcoming session will begin on January 14th. All matches will be played at the Lake Village courts. This session is totally independent of the Fall league. You can now sign-up in the tennis shop or by calling us at 239-985-1817. Cost is $10 (covers balls and player gifts). Also, we’re looking for captains. If you’d like to volunteer, we’d love to have you! If you haven’t captained before, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know and do. Just like last year, captains get to choose their own bird mascot for their team. 2017 Miami Open Bus Trip We’re trying to gauge the interest in a day-long bus trip to the Miami Open in Key Biscayne. In order to secure a bus and group ticket package, we’re required to have a minimum number of participants. The trip is on Tuesday, March 28th. Cost will be roughly $125 (includes tickets, transportation, and morning mimosas). This trip would be open to all members and guests. If you are interested, please let us know via email or at 985-1817. Your acknowledged interest would not commit you. We’d just like to better judge the likelihood of meeting certain group package requirements. The sooner we hear from you, the better! Upcoming Ladies Wednesday Evening Mixers: Jan. 25th March 15th SALE: All tennis clothing on the sale rack in the golf pro shop is now 60% off. Reminder: All events for the season (pro league, Round Robins, ladies mixers, etc.) are posted on the front and back bulletin boards. All league matches are also posted on each bulletin board. Individual flyers for each event get posted roughly 3 weeks ahead of time. If you’re ever curious about what’s going on in Lexington tennis, those boards and this links page will have everything you need to know. Sign-ups can be called in, emailed, or done on your own in the tennis office. Fall tennis shop hours: Monday thru Friday: 8 am - 4 pm Saturday: 9 am – 12 pm

From your Fitness Director - Angie Ferguson

"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." Oprah Winfrey Wouldn’t it be great if you could lose weight while catching a bit of shuteye? Good news – you can! Here are a few handy ways you can burn fat while you’re asleep and help stave off any holiday weight gain. Sleep more That’s right; one of the most effective ways to shift those pounds while you sleep is to quite simply get more of it. With our hectic schedules nowadays, sleep is often neglected, but if you want to lose weight that needs to change. A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that overweight people on average got 16 minutes less sleep per day than their regular-weight counterparts. It doesn’t sound like very long, but over time that difference builds up. So why does sleep help keep you slim? It’s all to do with the hormones leptin and ghrelin. Leptin helps to regulate your energy levels and keep your appetite low, while ghrelin stimulates hunger and often initiates the need to eat. The results of a study conducted at the University of Wisconsin found that participants who got more sleep had reduced ghrelin and increased leptin levels, which helped to control their appetites throughout the day. Resistance training While sleep alone is great to encourage weight loss, there are some exercises you can do before bed that will help the process along. One of the best approaches is some pre-slumber resistance training. Burning fat is all about boosting your metabolism, and resitance training is great for this. In fact, according to a journal published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition, subjects who performed resistance exercises enjoyed a higher resting metabolic rate for an average of 16 hours following their workout. Eat small meals throughout the day “Eat little and often” is a favorite tip of trainers and dietitians all over the world, and you’ll be glad to hear this is a great way of boosting your nocturnal weight loss. Eating small meals frequently throughout the day serves to keep your metabolism ticking, and will ensure your body continues burning fat throughout the night. Of course, these meals need to be healthy and nutritious for this technique to work! As well as boosting your metabolism while you’re asleep, this frequent eating method will ensure your appetite is kept in check, which should reduce any cravings you have when you wake up in the morning. On behalf of your fit-tactic fitness team, have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you first thing in the morning, Angie

From your Director of Golf - Kris Kinkle The golf calendar for the month of January is now available in the Golf Shop. In it you’ll see that we have a lot of activities planned for you to enjoy. We still have openings available on New Year’s Day for Lexington’s Annual Bloody Mary Open. We hope you’ll have the opportunity to join us in welcoming in the new year Lexington style. We want to remind all our members that while Lexington’s Country Club’s lower Fall Season golf rates are still in effect throughout the month of December, you may want to consider coming out for a round or two of golf. Lake Village members can still play 18 holes for only $35.00 and for all members who wish to bring out a guest, the rate is only $47.00. The month of December is a great time to play with the overseeding being completed and less play on the course than in the up and coming months. We hope to see you soon! Our Annual Holiday Sale is now in progress and it will continue until the end of the year. The discounts range from 30% to 60% off retail prices. The Golf Shop has been receiving new merchandise daily to get ready for the holidays and the busy golfing months which are right around the corner. We are happy to say that the new 2017 line of clubs are starting to arrive at super low prices! Wait until you see all the new men’s and ladies clothing lines in addition to the new accessories which are now on display. All men’s and ladies clothing is a full 40% off the retail price. Complimentary gift wrapping is also available for any special gifts you have on your list during the holiday season. Note: Sweeps accounts will now be held until April 3, 2017, any sweeps won after March 15th will be carried over into the next season. After 2017 the sweeps accounts will be cleared on April 30th. Tuesday, December 13th we had Taylor Made Golf at Lexington for a Demo Day. They had all the latest and greatest products available for demo. If you missed your chance to try out some of the latest innovations in golf, they will be returning to Lexington for our Super Demo Day on February 3rd, 2017. On January 25th & 26th, we will be conducting the second major tournament for the month of January, The Couples Championship. Both 8 am and 1 pm shotguns will be available both days. Sign-up starts on Monday, December 26th at 7 am. Don’t miss out on this great event. We still have openings in The Bloody Mary Open for the 8 am shotgun which will be held on New Year’s Day. It will be a scramble format with Bloody Mary’s available throughout your round. All players will receive a commemorative tee gift at registration and we will meet back in the Vista Room around 5:15 pm for the awards dinner and complimentary raffles. We’d love to spend New Year’s Day with you! Give us a call at 239-437-3380 and sign-up today! Friday, December 23rd, Daniel Loucks will be conducting a short game school from 9 to 11 am. Sign-up is available in the Golf Pro Shop. Daniel can accommodate up to 6 students. All members with private carts need to register their cart in the Golf Shop and have it inspected and tagged for the 2017 season. All you need to do is show the staff proof of insurance ($300,000.00 liability) and you will be all set for the new season. As in past years, the golf course, golf shop and range will be closed on Saturday, December 24th at 12 noon, after the 8 am morning shotgun, and all day Christmas Day, December 25th. We want to congratulate Mr. Steve King for his spectacular shot on Wednesday, December 7th. Mr. King EAGLED hole #15 from 130 yards with his 8 iron. Also Mrs. Meredith Louden, who had a Hole in One on Tuesday, December 13th. She used a 7 iron from 99 yards on hole #4 for an ACE!! Congratulations to both of you for your great shots!! Handicap Note: A “Most Likely Score” is the score a player must post for handicap purposes if a hole is started but not completed, OR if the player concedes the hole. The “Most Likely Score” consists of the number of strokes already taken PLUS, in the players best judgment, the number of strokes the player would take to complete the hole from that position . This number may not exceed the player’s equitable stroke control limit. Golf Tip: Have you ever been fitted to a proper set of clubs? Examples includes lie angle of your clubs, swing weight, grip size, shaft flex and kick point. If you are one of those players that just bought your clubs off the rack with no fitting, you may be setting yourself up for inconsistency. If you want to check if your clubs fit you, stop by the shop and let one of the professionals take a look at your equipment. Having the proper fit on your clubs can allow your body and club to swing correctly. Without a proper fitting, it can cause you to make adjustments in the middle of the swing, which will cause inconsistency in your ball striking and accuracy.

Golf Course - Laurie Frutchey

We are in the process of refurbishing all the ball washers and large divot sand boxes on the golf course. The overseed is starting to fill in nicely. You will start to see new roped off areas for traffic control as we try to keep the compaction to a minimum. New putting green cups have been ordered and will be installed this week.

Update on Lakes: The Alum treatments began on November 14th to the Island Club Lake. This will take about three days to complete. This will make the lake very cloudy for several days and there will be a heavy film on the surface as application is applied. This is the Alum binding with the plankton, Phosphorus, and other suspended solids in the lake. As the Alum continues to bind to this material it will get heavier and sink to the bottom and residents will see the lake start to clear up. After the Phosphorus has been bound up the explosive plankton growth you have been seeing will immediately slow down. The lake company will treat any remaining plankton the end of this week. The second dose of Alum will go in around the middle of December to bind up any remaining Phosphorus.
