Please let Prof Roode Liias know by 4th May 2011 what topic(s) you would like to discuss by filling in the space allocated on registration from. Your topic may be in any of the areas listed below or you may wish to begin a discussion on another topic. Discussions can be about theory, the application of theory to practice or the elicitation of theory from practice and/or research methods.         

Production Planning and Control Production System Design Product Development and Design Management Culture and Change Enabling Lean with IT Contract and Cost Management Supply Chain Management Safety, Quality and the Environment Prefabrication, Assembly and Open Building

This is a great opportunity for graduate students and to those who are preparing a paper and/or presentation for IGLC19 in Peru or any other event/journal to develop their ideas and get feedback on their work/research. Topics will be allocated to one of the six 90 minute sessions shown in the outline programme on page 3. If you suggest a topic you will have up to 10 minutes to briefly outline your thinking and after hearing one or two other related outlines there will then be at least an hour for discussion of the issues raised.

Estonian Group for Lean Construction The non-profit organization Estonian Group for Lean Construction (short version in Estonian: MTÜ ETET) was established in 2009 and has currently five active members (see below). We have taken the responsibility to introduce novel construction management concepts, methods and tools in Estonia. To achieve this, we have organized conferences and training courses on Lean construction and building information modeling topics. One and which will hopefully become a traditional event is the Project Manager Day at Tallinn University of Applied Sciences. The First Project Manager Day was held in 2009, where around 150 people participated. The key lecturer of the day was a well-known construction management professor Lauri Koskela (on right hand picture) from University of Salford, Professor Lauri Koskela at who introduced the concept of Lean construction. The Second Project the First Project Manager Day Manager Day was held in 2010 (160 participants), where the key lecturer of the day was associated professor Rafael Sacks (on left hand picture) from Israel Institute of Technology (Technion), who introduced the building information modeling and integrated project delivery concepts. One of our members, Maarja, who is a client's representative at Ragn-Sells AS, has taken initiative to start a first Lean project in Estonia. First course in Estonia introducing Lean has been developed at the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences together with Associate professor Rafael Sacks at the MTÜ ETET. Second Project Manager Day

Members of Estonian Group for Lean Construction Professor Roode Liias is the dean of the faculty of civil engineering and a head of chair of construction economics and management at the Tallinn University of Technology. He will be chairing the 13th EGLC meeting in Estonia. He has been dealing with construction management issues for about thirty years, including facilities management/maintenance in last ten years. He believes: "Quality of facilities is achieved by reasonable construction and facilities management. There is always something new that makes people think and develop themselves." Meeli-Ann Lille is a founding member of EstGLC and a chairman of the board. Meeli-Ann Lille graduated from the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences in 2009 with thesis on Last Planner® system. She has been giving a Lean construction course, training people from industry and written articles to the local construction related journals. Now, she is a M.Sc. student at the Tallinn University of Technology. Currently, she is at the University of California as a visiting scholar and working as an intern on Sutter Health St. Lukes Replacement Hospital project where Lean construction methods are extensively being deployed by the project team. She has been given a task to evaluate and develop the implementation of Last Planner® Page 9

11th – 13th May 13th EGLC 2011 and "Industry Day" meeting Tallinn, Estonia system in integrated project team. At the same time, her research focus is Last Planner ® development in project design phase. Reet Suits is a founding member of EstGLC and a member of the board. She graduated from the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences in 2009 a civil engineering degree. Her thesis work topic was an overview of Lean construction concept and LEED certification system (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design). Currently she is on parental leave from her studies at the Tallinn University of Technology and work in Skanska EMV (in Estonia). On her return she is planning to continue to study the LEED certification system and applicability in Estonia. Enn Tammaru acquired his masters of science degree in year 1972 from the Tallinn University of Technology. He was introduced to Lean construction and building information modeling through supervising student Meeli-Ann Lille in 2009, and consulting Ergo Pikas in 2010, in their thesis. In desire to reach the level of leading universities in Lean topics we looked out together with the students the opportunities to join with organizations promoting lean construction. We are now the members of EGLC and actively taking part of EGLC and IGLC events in Europe and all over the world. Our students work together with universities from Israel, USA and etc. Ergo Pikas graduated from the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences in 2010 with thesis on “Integration of Lean Construction and Building Information Modeling”. For the thesis work he visited Finnish construction companies, where he studied their best practices of Lean Construction and Building Information Modeling. Together with Dr. Rafael Sacks prepared a case study of implementing BIM in the Crusell Bridge project, which will be included in the second edition of the “BIM Handbook”. At the beginning of this year he did his internship at Salford University, Salford Centre for Research and Innovation, where he was supervised by Prof. Lauri Koskela (a pioneer of Lean Construction and originator of TransformationFlow-Value Theory). Later in 2010 he was back at Salford University working for the Health and Care Infrastructure Research and Innovation Centre (HaCIRIC), doing research entitled “An overview of Building Information Modeling in hospital projects”. Currently, he is a civil engineering – construction management – master's student at the Israel Institute of Technology, where his research focus is production systems in construction and working together with team developing KanBIM system (pull flow control for construction production) led by Rafael Sacks. Andero Laur is currently a superintendent in Skanska EMV (in Estonia) and a final year master's student at the Tallinn University of Technology. He has been in Skanska Finland (leading lean construction promoter in Finland) studying the lean construction concept and building information modeling tools. He is leading a lean implementation journey in his company, including Last Planner® processes and development of forms. He is also involved in the residential project, which is the first one in Estonia where BIM is being utilized relatively thoroughly.
