What’s New in 2014

What’s New in 2014 ere at Eureka!, we look at the world as a place full of passionate outdoor participants and see opportunity to innovate & add value to categories of products used in the traditional campsite beyond tents. In previous years we‘ve introduced backpacks, sleeping bags, patent pending sleeping pads, camp furniture, and LED lighting. This year we devoted resources to developing new campsite-specific furniture, designing an EN Tested sleeping bag collection, and introducing two rectangular sleeping bags sized to meet the needs of young campers. In our core market of tents, we designed a collection of Adventure Basecamp tents, and utilizing our military tent expertise, we developed a new Tactical tent series. As you will see, we have the products that make it easy to enjoy life outdoors… Eureka! For Life Outdoors.

This season brings a major update to Eureka’s Performance Mummy Series. The comprehensive redesign includes new fabrics, features, and enhancements to Eureka!’s proprietary Rteq insulation. Eureka!’s Rteq premium synthetic insulation has been reformulated to deliver better thermal performance across a broader range of conditions, allowing for the all-new Star Valley 45°F, the ultimate light-weight, warm weather sleeping bag. Along with the major redesign, the Performance Mummy Series will also feature the EN Standard 13537 temperature rating system. Since its initial introduction in 2002, the EN Standard has quickly become the definitive guide for easily and accurately marketing sleeping bag thermal performance characteristics. Eureka! Tents Exploring the vast parks and public lands of the USA is a unique experience. Be it a weekend of camping with the family at a local park or navigating your way through the backcountry for days at a time, EUREKA! has been outfitting tent campers for over 100 years. Our 2014 development efforts were multifaceted: bring a new Adventure Basecamp Collection to market, update the venerable Sunrise Series of family tents, complete our Midori Series of backpacking tents with the addition of the Midori Solo, apply feedback from users on improving the Assault Outfitter 4, and leverage our expertise in military tents to commercialize our new Tactical Tent Series.

The new 2 model Taron Basecamp Series is the foundation of the Adventure Basecamp Collection. The 4 & 6 person models inherited their DNA from our successful Taron backpacking tents, and then we utilized materials, incorporated design elements, & added features valued by the adrenaline sports done-in-a-day enduser. While developing the Taron Basecamp models, the team hit upon the idea of better utilizing the light output of LED lanterns hung at the tent’s peak. Currently most light from the lantern is projected upwards and wasted. Thus the product concept of the E!luminate System was born. Let’s reflect the lantern’s light back towards the floor where it is most needed! The E!luminate System increases floor level lighting from LED lanterns up to 3 fold, resulting in an elegant, yet simple & effective solution to brighten the nighttime camping experience.

Finally, following up on last year’s introduction of the popular Cypress and Azalea JR mummy bags, 2014 brings the all-new 30°F rated Balsam and Camellia JR rectangular models. These cozy, polyester lined bags feature Eureka’s ThermaShield synthetic insulation and have plenty of wiggle room for teens and shorter adults up to 5ft 6in tall. EN Explained: The EN Standard 13537 temperature rating system incorporates years of scientific physiology, thermal dynamics, and real world camping experience to produce an accurate, international standard of sleeping bag thermal performance. Numerous factors, including gender, metabolism, hydration, and clothing all contribute to a user’s ability to maintain warmth. For 2014, Eureka! introduces the new Singlis Ultralight. The Singlis UL utilizes lightweight fabrics and TPU films for a ~40% weight savings compared to the current Singlis ST model. Weighing in at a mere 15oz, the Singlis UL’s combination of a 20D polyester micro ripstop top fabric and a 75D polyester bottom fabric result in a ultra-light, yet durable, mattress for backpackers. The integrated pump allows for quick, convenient inflation.

By incorporating feedback from outfitters & educational groups, we made significant changes to the Assault Outfitter 4 to increase its durability, functionality, & comfort during long-term use in the field. We applied our experience in crafting structural and sleeping shelters for military applications to develop descendants of the TCOP and Combat tent for paramilitary use, the Down Range Series. These desert sand colored tents utilize nylon floors and polyester ripstop flys, both with high hydrostatic coatings, for durability. The Solo’s FOB (Forward Operating Base) vestibule floor, and the use of Snivel Locks on both models’ vestibules aid in field utility.

The pinnacle of sleeping pad comfort and technology are Eureka!’s Dualis ST models. The patent pending dual chamber technology features customizable support and warmth for the ultimate in home mattress like comfort. Dual chamber technology integrates the best attributes of both a Singlis air tube mattress with a traditional self-inflating foam pad, to create a hybrid mattress with unrivaled comfort and versatility. The Dualis mattress is perfect for extended, luxurious stays at camp.

Lighting is an integral part of the nighttime campsite, and for 2014, Eureka! continues our collection of portable LED lighting. Our lighting collection is comprised of versatile, multi-functional, camping-specific LED lanterns and flashlights. They are compact, made of durable materials, and are easy to use.

Eureka! Camp Furniture Eureka!’s camp furniture features quality, durable designs that enrich the outdoor experience. Unique features like extended seatbacks, side tables, adjustable leveling feet, and padded armrests provide simple solutions to common campsite comfort and convenience issues. For 2014 Eureka! is launching new designs in each our of furniture categories.

Unique to the color-updated Warrior 230 lantern is an infrared remote, making for easy operation of the lantern especially if it is hanging in a tent or on a pole. Adding further value, the remote performs double-duty as a small LED flashlight. The compact Warrior 230 runs on 3 D-size batteries, producing 230 lumens for 50 hours when on high; enough run time for a several day trip without having to be concerned about battery life.

Cook Table

The popular Curvy Chair now includes a convenient side-mounted tray. The new Curvy Chair with Side Table design features over 100sq inches of useful storage solutions like a large cup holder and recessed plate area, as well as unique utensil holsters. The side table mounts securely to the chair frame, yet is easily removable for compact storage and transport. The perfect place to crash after a long day, the new Recliner Chair is the ultimate in campsite comfort with a luxurious 20 degrees of recline and 3 comfortable positions. Side pocketing, padded armrests, and a full-height seatback round out this comfortable package.

Versatile, the Magic 125 Lantern/Flashlight is an area lantern which transforms to a powerful directional flashlight by rotating its top-mounted LED housing.

Eureka! is no stranger to backpacks. During our hundred year history, we have designed and built backpacks in our facility in upstate New York. Our focused line of backpacks incorporates features valued by the dedicated Eureka! consumer: the family camper, backpacker, hunter, fisherman, scout, and general outdoors-person. The Sunrise Series is updated to reflect the needs of the recreational camping enthusiast valuing ease of set-up in a durable, feature-rich tent for frequent family campouts. We added features such as Cross-Flow venting, the new E!luminate System, and the E! Media Center. With the E! Media Center in place, campers can watch video on notepads & other small electronics from the comfort of the sleeping bag. The Center’s clear center sleeve holds a notepad & is touch-screen friendly. The Midori Solo completes the Midori Series of side entry aluminum frame backpacking tents.
