Internal Communication

Goals of this session

Euclid! Consortium!

1) Get to know each other! Find out each others’ areas of interest, assemble an EPO contact email list. Hopefully, this will contain representation across all countries & languages. Currently need especial effort on the E-side of the EPO spectrum. ESERO?

2) Go around the room Some formal presentations; others, please just stand up and say hi. Identify who might be able to help each other.

3) Answer some Frequently Asked Questions 4) Begin to sketch a roadmap Anais & others put together a (fantastic!) long-term communication plan for early proposals to ESA – see latest version from Oct 2010 on wiki http://euclid.roe.ac.uk/projects/coms-public/wiki/EPO_at_Copenhagen But it’s only worthwhile doing things for which we have the expertise in the EC.

5) Decide (at least the next) milestones When shall we next meet? Who’s doing what (and with whom) until then? Copenhagen  16/05/12

FAQs: EPO budget

Euclid! Consortium!

The EPO budget is small. In many member nations, it is held internally, and managed by the national contact to the ECB. It will therefore be important to ! (a)  Do centrally a few (essential or high-impact) things well! (b)  Coordinate activities internationally, to avoid unwanted duplication of effort*! (c)  Match what we do to the existing expertise and will within the consortium! (d)  Reward consortium members for effort spent in coordinated EPO activity! (e)  Regularly evaluate activities, and focus on the successful ones!

* not here to prevent things being done, just to make sure we donʼt waste time doing things we donʼt want to do. Sharing resources will benefit us all!! Copenhagen  16/05/12

FAQs: Press Releases ! Releases will be managed centrally by ESA.! Press

Contact point within the EC is Bob Nichol & Anais Rassat. ! Release text/graphics will be prepared by scientists and ESAʼs Research & Scientific Support Department (RSSD); this is to use their expertise, and also to monitor a fair distribution of nationalities/ages/genders with a long-term memory.! ! Release material will be sent to press offices of national agencies/universities that request it, with. Here it can be modified to reflect local priorities, but it is in our interests to have Euclid be branded as an ESA mission, so ESA logo and name must be present everywhere. ! ! PR for adoption in early July will be test case. ! Copenhagen  16/05/12

European; scientists from 19 different countries Wide angle HST High technology Two independent experiments to measure then verify the same science All the other legacy science from space-quality imaging of the whole sky

What is dark energy? •  Driving the accelerating expansion of the Universe •  Einstein's biggest mistake •  A new theory of gravity to rewrite textbooks

What is dark matter? •  The glue that holds the Universe together and builds structure •  The most common material and omnipresent but invisible and intangible •  Links to particle physics/CERN Copenhagen  16/05/12

EC logo design competition

Euclid! Consortium!

http://euclid.roe.ac.uk/projects/coms-public/wiki/Logo_competition (http://tiny.cc/syedew)!

All entries by: 14th June (4 weeks tomorrow)! •  The de facto EC logo contains too much detail to work small, and the halfwhite/half-black background does not sit well on anything other than a white background. •  We are therefore calling on all graphic designers within the consortium to help develop a more versatile and stylish brand. The winning entry will be used on the consortium web page, future publications, and (e.g. presentation) material supplied by COMS. !
