Ethan and Evie About a year and a half ago, we got a set of foster twins, a boy and a girl. They were only two months old when we got them from another foster family. They had gotten taken away from their parents because their dad didn’t want them and their mom couldn’t take care of them. On September 11, 2012, my mom, brother, and I were sitting at a table at a high school basketball game when my mom said, “I have some exciting news!” Both my brother and I excitedly asked, “What is it? What is it?” She smiled and said, “We are getting another set of twins on Thursday. It’s a boy and a girl. They will be two months old tomorrow.” Our eyes lit up! We couldn’t wait until Thursday. I just wished time would move faster. Finally, Thursday came and my mom and dad had to go get the twins in another town. My two brothers, sister, and I left for school and as soon as we were out the door we wished the school day was over so we could meet the twins. I was excited all day. Eventually, school was over, which seemed like years since that morning, and we all raced home but our parents weren’t home yet. We had to wait until six or seven at night and sat on the couch and asked each other what we thought the babies would be like when they finally arrived. The door

knob barely even moved and we all jumped up to see the new additions to the family. They were both tiny and had the biggest eyes. Evie’s eyes were bigger than Ethan’s and she kind of scared me. Every time I came in with groceries, I checked on them. I was so excited to have new baby siblings. The twins have grown into their eyes a lot and are almost the normal size for twins their age. Now they are nineteen months old and have both had funny and scary moments. Funny times with Ethan is when he gets to talking. You can’t understand any of his words and he talks really fast. He mostly just talks baby talk but it is so funny because he just babbles. Evie is a funny kid too. One of the funny things that she does is climbs on everything. Just recently we added on to our house so we had an air compressor in the living room. Evie climbed on the air compressor and sat down to watch TV. Both of the babies like to wash each other in the bath tub. If you put soap in Ethan’s hair, Evie will scrub it in. Ethan rinses Evie’s hair out. They have both had some scary times and one of Ethan’s was when he ate a dish detergent packet. We keep our soap under the sink and the babies know how to get into the cupboard. The soaps are right in front so they’re easy to reach and Ethan grabbed one. He usually doesn’t eat them but this time he did. My dad

saw he had something in his mouth so he tried to get it out. Once he realized it was a soap packet he was concerned even more. Luckily, the soap made him throw up so he didn’t get hurt. A scary time with Evie was when she had an allergic reaction to amoxicillin. The babies had been sick so they were taking amoxicillin. Evie had gotten a little rash so we weren’t too concerned until it got worse and worse. My mom and dad took her into the doctor and the doctor said if they had brought her in any later, she could have gotten seriously hurt. Both the babies have been sick many times with many different sicknesses. They have had RSV, ammonia, strep, many fevers, and other sicknesses that I can’t’ remember. Some of them were major and others not so bad. Both the twins do some funny things. Evie is crazy about my four year old brother’s hair. He will put his head in Evie’s lap and she goes wild! She rubs and hits his head at the same time. She makes a funny face while she does it. She will only do it to him though. Ethan knows where the power button on the TV and he thinks it’s funny to turn it on and off when you’re watching TV. He likes to turn the TV on and run across the living room to make it look like he didn’t do anything. When he first started doing it, we were confused why the TV was magically turning on. Then we caught him doing it and he does it to be ornery. One night my brother was sitting on the floor, rubbing my dad’s feet and Ethan

came over and held out his hand for lotion. My brother put some lotion on his hand and Ethan rubbed it in, just like he had seen his brother do. On the twins first birthday, my mom made them each a cupcake. We sat them in their highchairs and Ethan had just woken up from a nap so we was really crabby. We put the cupcakes in front of them and they didn’t know what to do. Ethan took one look at his and cried. Evie slowly squished her hands into it and she became a mess. There was frosting and cupcake everywhere! She loved hers so much that she ate hers and Ethan’s! When the babies were really little, we fed them in bouncers on the counter. For dessert one night we gave them a piece of licorice. They were funny with it. They held it at the bottom and tried to get it into their mouth but they just kept swinging it and hit themselves on the cheeks, making themselves have colored and sticky cheeks. Like every person, Evie and Ethan have favorites. Some of their favorite foods are of course sugar, mandarin oranges, and juice. Some of Ethan’s favorite things are his blanket and anyone who will snuggle with him. Evie loves books and anyone who will read them to her.

The babies are now nineteen months and they walk, kinda talk, and get into everything they’re not supposed to. We are in the process of adopting them but it’s taking longer than I should. Their mom has given up her rights and their dad will get his rights taken away if he doesn’t give them up soon. I hope the adoption speeds up and we can adopt them in the next few months.
