University of Defence Basic Facts In accordance with the University Act the University of Defence is a university-type school. It was built on September 1, 2004 to continue utilizing the pedagogical and physical potential of the three former military colleges – Brno Military Academy, Military University of the Ground Forces (Vyskov) and Purkyne Military Academy (Hradec Kralove). University of Defence primary mission is propagation of literacy, development of thinking and independent scientific research in the issues vital for Czech Republic security or accomplishment of its Alliance obligations. University of Defence scope of work is defined with focuses of education, formation and training of military professionals as required by the Army of the Czech Republic and research projects in favour of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) department.

The University consists of three faculties:  Faculty of Military Leadership (Brno)  Faculty of Military Technology (Brno)  Faculty of Military Health Science (Hradec Kralove) one university institute:  NBC Defence Institute (Vyskov) and three centers:  Language Training Centre (Brno)  Physical Training and Sports Centre (Brno)  Centre of Security and Military Strategic Studies (Brno)

Accommodation Before your arrival send an Application for Accommodation (see Annex 1) to the faculty where you will study. The Faculty will arrange your accommodation. All University of Defence students live in double rooms in a military dormitory Tučkova 23, Brno. Price: 108 CZK/ day 3 285 CZK/ month Accommodation is paid only in CZK.

10 minutes foot transfer via “Shopping Galery VANKOVKA” to Railway Station;



or 4 minutes foot transfer to Tram Stop and take the Tram 12 to Railway Station (see Fig. 4);

Catering Once enrolled and entered in the University of Defence information system you receive a temporary paper entrance card and an electronic card that allows you to use catering service Prices: 40 CZK (1st four menus) or 49 CZK (5th menu)

It is also possible to go to the restaurant called Severka (in front of the dormitory). Lunch menu is about 70 – 100 CZK.

Medical Care Essential medical care including limited ward capacity is available at the Garrison Medical Ambulance Brno on Chodska Street 21. In the event of some medical trouble you can call Garrison Emergency Doctor +420 973 443 580.
