EPM System Requirements Introduction

1.1 Introduction This section documents an outline of the minimum hardware and operating system requirements for the successful installation and use of each component of the EPM Suite. Any changes to these requirements may be listed in the release notes contained on the CD. All installations are based around either 2 or 3 dedicated servers depending on whether you are going to be using the Web capabilities of the EPM product. These should be a database server, an EPM Application server, and optionally an EPM Web server. Other configurations of servers are not recommended by Business Objects except where we have defined that standard requirements can be changed. Please Note: These are only very generalized recommendations for minimum requirements. Business Objects will work with you both before and after the sales process to tailor a recommendation that is suitable for your organization and the needs of the models being created. 3.1 Additional Software Requirements Please read this section carefully, it contains important information regarding additional software requirements for the EPM product range. These requirements for additional software are based on what facilities you have enabled in your agreement. It is sensible to contact your IT department to check whether these steps need to be undertaken in your organization. The prerequisites required are dependent on the EPM application to be installed as detailed below.

3.2 Database Server The appropriate database application must be installed and functioning correctly on the database server as listed below:

3.7.1 Microsoft Excel To use Microsoft Excel to access your EPO database you must include Microsoft Query when installing Excel.

3.7.2 Microsoft ProClarity To use Microsoft ProClarity to access your EPO database you must have reconfigured your Microsoft ProClarity setup to use the correct OLAP provider. By default, the MSOLAP provider within ProClarity will be set as ‘current’. You must set the provider to be EPMMDX in order to use the link. This can be done in the ‘Current Provider’ dialog within Microsoft ProClarity.

3.7.3 Cognos PowerPlay To use Cognos PowerPlay to access your EPO database you must have configured your PowerPlay installation to use OLAP Support. This will enable you to select the MS SSOS ODBO Database Type. To do this, you must perform a custom installation of PowerPlay and select the PowerPlay OLAP Support option, ensuring that the MS SQL Server OLAP Services option is selected.
