In the early 80’s the controlled combustion wood stove was a new phenomenon experiencing unprecedented demand- so much so that manufacturers struggled to keep up. Consumer acceptance was at an all time high for wood-burning as they strived to reduce home heating costs and became more independent from conventional heating systems. As consumers visited retail showrooms they wanted all the features of the new wood stove technology but many expressed the desire to have it as a built–in fireplace… something that was not available at the time.

Recognizing the market demand we introduced the first BIS in 1984. BIS simply stood for “BUILT-IN STOVE.” There was one model and three door finishes. With the development of the BIS, a new high-efficiency fireplace category was born and became the fastest growing fireplace category by percentage. BIS continued to evolve with additional models, a variety of sizes and more options. Efficiencies were improved and to assist in heating other rooms we developed gravity kits. The Forced Air Heating Kit will allow you move heat and enjoy the warmth in up to three other rooms. 30 years after creating the high-efficiency (EPA) fireplace category we continue to be the market leader today… offering a size to fit your need, limitless décor possibilities, high quality manufacturing, and total flexibility to heat additional living areas of your home. I am in my 40th year in the Hearth Industry and am proud to have been involved with the BIS collection in its first 30 years on the market. In my mind there is no finer wood-burning fireplace available today. It has stood the test of time. The Brentwood is characterized by a subtly arched cast iron door. Louvers can be replaced with a clean face option and heating can be extended to three rooms with our forced air heating kit.
