Community Living Services

The Five Community Living Principles

Our community living services are focused on assisting individuals to live as independently as possible in their own homes and communities. Direct Service Aides provide comprehensive and inclusive training and personal support services tailored to their individual needs and preferences. The Independent Living Program is geared for people who may benefit from minimal training and support needs. The Supported Living Program aims to serve people with expansive and evolving in-depth needs.

Community Catalysts of California actively supports the belief that people with disabilities are an integral part of the community and these five principles serve as our daily work guide. Our clients choose where and with whom they want to live, they direct the services they receive, they decide who is a part of their circle of support, and they choose what clubs, groups or churches they join. All of our services are provided at the times and locations when our clients prefer.

Housing First Strategy VCS practices a Housing First strategy in which the Veteran family’s primary focus is permanent housing. Housing is the key factor for stable transition and long-term success. Veterans move directly from homelessness to housing. There are no intermediate programs that

delay their move into housing. The immensely successful proven outcomes demonstrate that providing housing to a Veteran is the foundation for personal growth and financial self-sufficiency.

Supportive Services For Veteran Families Program (SSVF) SSVF is a homelessness prevention and rapid re-housing program. We assist at-risk and homeless Veteran families achieve housing stability through a wraparound case management model by assisting with obtaining safe and affordable permanent housing, accessing VA and public benefits, obtaining employment or career advancement, financial planning services, coordinating additional support through referrals and addressing other barriers to maintaining permanent housing. Temporary financial aid may be provided to eligible Veteran families to secure housing or provide for other needs to increase housing stability. 6
