Turkey

17 - 20 March 2016, Istanbul

Turkey is planning to increase its generation capacity from around 40,000 MW to nearly 100,000 MW by 2023. To stimulate investment in new electric generation capacity and distribution infrastructure that will be needed to meet this rising demand, the Turkish government is offering energy-sector companies tax breaks and additional financial incentives. Companies wanting to help Turkey on its journey to becoming a modern, diversified energy industry will find the perfect platforms for presenting their technologies and expertise and for networking with local decision makers in Istanbul – at the Electrotech EURASIA showcase at the WIN EURASIA trade fair. Turkey

27 - 29 Apr 2016, Istanbul With around 16,000 visitors it is the most sustainable international Energy and Environment Fair and Conference, organized every year in Turkey on a regular basis since 1994. Turkey is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, giving energy companies easy access to around 1.5 billion customers. Between now and 2023, Turkey’s energy ministry puts the requisite investment volume at around USD 130 million, the biggest single chunk of which – some USD 33 billion – has been earmarked for additional hydropower generation capacity. Other big-ticket items include wind and solar energy plants (USD 30 billion), coal-fired and nuclear power stations (USD 21 billion), gasfired power stations (USD 7 billion) and electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure (USD 18 billion). These sums testify to the enormous scale of Turkey’s commitment to expanding and futureproofing its energy sector.

Canada

1 - 3 November 2016, Calgary The 32th Annual CanWEA Conference and Exhibition in Calgary is Canada’s largest wind energy conference and exhibition. Last year’s event convinced with 121 exhibiting companies, more than 30,000 square feet of exhibit space and 1,500 registered attendees. Recent government sign-offs on new wind projects in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia are ample testimony to Canada’s serious intention to boost its wind generation capacity. Forecasts suggest that Canada’s wind generation capacity will grow by an average of around 1,500 MW each year in the coming decade. And this sort of dynamic growth will certainly be needed if the country, which ranks among the world’s energy-sector heavyweights, is to realize its ambitious plan – to increase the wind share of its total energy mix to 20 % by 2025 in order to stabilize electricity prices and cut CO2 emissions by 17 megatons per year. The Canadian government has earmarked the gigantic sum of 80 billion Canadian dollars for funding in support of new wind generation projects.
