District Heating: DESMI have a long and strong experience: • Combined Heat & Power Plants. • Waste to Energy Plants • Boiler Plants, Biomass etc. • Solar driven Plants.

Combined heat and power (CHP) Also known as cogeneration – is a way to increase the efficiency of power plants. Standard power plants effectively use just 40 percent of the fuel they burn to produce electricity. 60 percent of the fuel used in the electric production process ends up being rejected or "wasted" up the smokestack, as shown here:

District Heating: Examples of DESMI Deliveries to Combined Heat & Power / Power Plants:

Denmark: “Vestforbrænding”, Waste-to-Energy Plant Copenhagen. Many pumps supplied over the years (e.g.NSL 250-415). Denmark: ”AffaldVarme Aarhus”. Waste-to-Energy Plant. NSLH end suction pumps 300-525, 500 kW. Denmark: One of the world’s largest solar heating plants ”Dronninglund”, Northern Denmark. Denmark: Biomass fuelled Combined Heat & Power Plant, Skanderborg, Hørning District Heating Co. (photos below). The Netherlands: Nuon Energy Company (Vattenfall). Several pump supplies e.g. for WKC Almere Power plant. China: Zunhua Power and Heating plant (160 km east Beijing). NSL300-525 pumps, ea capacity 1,250 m³/h, 110 mWC, 1742 rpm Mongolia: Thermal Power Plant No. 2 - Circulation and WMU pumps. Erchim Urgu Companu NSL 250-415 + 315 kW 4 pole ABB IE2 motor, PN16 & NSL 100-215 + 18,5 kW 2 pole ABB IE2 motor PN16

District Heating – Waste to Energy Plants : Waste-to-energy (WtE) or energy-from-waste (EfW) is the process of generating energy in the form of electricity and/or heat from the incineration of waste. WtE is a form of energy recovery. Most WtE processes produce electricity and/or heat directly through combustion, or produce a combustible fuel commodity, such as methane, methanol, ethanol or synthetic fuels. DESMI have supplied for several Waste-to-Energy plants, i.e. in Aarhus - the 2nd biggest city in Denmark. The plant handle all waste from more than 250,000 citizens. DESMI NSLH end suction pumps 300-525, 500 kW.

District Heating – Solar Panel Driven: DESMI supplied pumps for one of the world’s largest solar heating plants ”Dronninglund” in Denmark Hot water storage dam: 60,000 m3 Solar Panel surface area of 37,000 m2.

District Heating:

District heating is an energy distribution network that transports heated water generated in a centralized utility to residential homes and commercial buildings in urban areas. District heating is clean, efficient and cost-effective due to its flexibility, scale of production and optimal heat generation conditions. District heating authorities are sometimes responsible for both production (CHP Plants - Combined Heat & Power a.o.) and distribution of the heating – other places they are separate authorities. District heating has a long history in Denmark dating back to 1920’s – so a real Danish competence ! Today 80% of the district heating in Denmark origins from surplus heat from production of electricity – the remaining 20 % from waste to energy plants. DESMI have more than 90 years of experience in this business area – and we are still in the front developping new technology and solutions as i.e. related to 4th General District Heating (utilizing new technology to make use of surplus heat down to 55 degr C). This makes us a leading pump manufacturer for this kind of business.

District Heating:

Examples of DESMI pump capabilities inside CPH/Waste-to-Energy Plants etc: Shunt pumps – for water circulation to/from the boiler. Condensation pumps. Utility pumps for the water circulation etc. DESMI Pump capabilities in the District Heating Network: Pumps within the Transmission Pipeline System (Booster pumps). Pumps within the Distribution Network System. Pumps for Central Substations. Etc. Pressure up to 25 Bar – Temperatures below 150 deg C.

”4th Generation District Heating Technologies and Systems” (4DH): Utilizing lower temperatures than seen before (55 degr. C). Low Energy Demands, Less Heat Loss & Optimum Interaction Energy Source, Distribution & Consumption

DESMI is an active partner of this Project: 4DH is an international research centre supported by The Danish Council for Strategic Research. The research centre assists in the development of 4th Generation District Heating Technologies and Systems (4GDH). Development fundamental to implementation of Danish objective being fossil fuel-free by 2050 & the European 2020 goals. Research period currently funded 2012-2018. 4DH - DK-9000 Aalborg - Denmark - +45 99408309 - [email protected]

District Heating: A Few Examples where DESMI already supplied our Pump Solutions: Denmark - Copenhagen – CTR Transmission Line Authority – “Tunnel Project”: 6 x NSL 300-415B, 355 kW, 4 pole and 3 x NSL 300-415/A12, 160 kW 4 pole. Denmark - Aalborg Municipality District Heating Company: District Heating Central & Rærup Pumping Station – e.g. NSL 200-415 centrifugal pumps. The Netherlands - Nuon Energy Company (Vattenfall). Several pump supplies e.g. NSL250-330 for DH networks. China Harbin District Heating Project. NSL & DPV pumps. When delivered this was the biggest DH project in China. Norway - Lillestrøm City District Heating network. e.g. NSL 300-525 pumps. Mongolia - 14'th Micro District Booster Pump Station. UBDHC (Ulaan Bataar District Heating Company) NSL 300-415 + 315 kW 4 pol ABB motor, PN25 Mongolia - Booster Pumping Stations No. 2 & 8 Capital City - Urban development and Planning Department UBDHC (Ulaan Bataar District Heating Company) 6 nos. NSL 300-415/A12-J-L + 315 kW 4 pol motor, PN25

DESMI has also supplied pump solutions for district heating projects in many other countries, i.e. Sweden, Iceland, Poland, The Baltic Republics, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, etc.

District Heating: The pump solutions provided by DESMI are based on our experiences within District Heating industry since the 1920’s – and our development of new technology to provide energy efficient solutions. The centrigulal pumps listed below furthermore have a low NPSH (Net Postive Suction Head), which i.e. helps to prevent cavitation. Maximum temperature allowed is 140 degr. C NSLV – end suction centrifugal pumps (high capacities and high pressure: PN10, 16, 25) NSL – inline centrifugal pumps (high capacities and high pressure; PN10, 16, 25). DSL - inline centrifugal pumps (highest capacities and moderate pressure). ESL - inline centrifugal pumps (smaller capacities and low pressure).
