Embassy of the United States of America Quito, 20 de diciembre de 2011 PROGRAMA "STUDY OF THE U.S." PARA LÍDERES UNIVERSITARIOS El programa "Study of the U.S." para Líderes Universitarios reúne en los Estados Unidos a jóvenes latinoamericanos de entre 18 y 25 años que se encuentren cursando primero a tercer año, que hayan demostrado liderazgo y compromiso con la comunidad, que deseen realizar estudios sobre la historia y el gobierno de los Estados Unidos, y que participen en actividades extracurriculares. Dura cinco semanas, de julio a agosto de 2011. El programa cubre todos los gastos y la estadía de los participantes en residencias universitarias. Adicionalmente, se ofrecen viajes domésticos de intercambio cultural con estudiantes locales y trabajos de voluntariado en distintas organizaciones y estados. El objetivo principal del programa es brindar a los participantes oportunidades para conocer más sobre la historia y el Gobierno de los Estados Unidos, la evolución de la sociedad, la cultura, los valores y las instituciones estadounidenses. El programa incorporará un enfoque de la vida contemporánea en los Estados Unidos moldeada por el debate de temas políticos, económicos y sociales, tanto históricos como actuales. También se abordará el papel y la influencia de principios y valores como la democracia, el debido proceso, los derechos individuales, la libertad de expresión. la igualdad, la diversidad y la tolerancia. El programa está diseñado para fomentar el desarrollo de la capacidad de liderazgo de los participantes y de su capacidad para resolver problemas en comunidad. Por lo tanto, el programa incluye discusiones en grupo, desarrollo del trabajo en equipo, resolución de problemas, comunicación efectiva y manejo de habilidades organizativas. Las visitas locales y los viajes domésticos darán a los participantes la oportunidad de observar varios aspectos de los Estados Unidos y discutir las lecciones aprendidas dentro de un marco social y académico diverso. Permitirá además a los participantes hablar sobre sus países, sus experiencias y su vida universitaria. COSTOS El programa cubre todos los costos del participante incluyendo pasajes internacionales, transporte interno, alojamiento y alimentación, entradas para actos culturales, gastos incidentales, de correo y trámite de visas. Sin embargo, los solicitantes deberán tener un pasaporte actualizado válido al menos por seis meses después de la fecha de su regreso al Ecuador.

Los participantes se alojarán en una residencia universitaria y, de ser necesario, se les solicitará compartir una habitación o un baño con otro participante de su mismo género. La mayoría de comidas serán en el campus universitario.

REQUISITOS Y RESTRICCIONES DEL PROGRAMA Los participantes deben asistir a todas las actividades del programa que incluye conferencias y actividades preestablecidas y completar en su totalidad las tareas asignadas. Es un programa intensivo y habrá muy poco o ningún tiempo para asuntos personales no relacionados con el programa. Los participantes no podrán llegar a los Estados Unidos antes de la fecha de inicio del programa y tampoco podrán quedarse después de la finalización del mismo. Los participantes no podrán salir de la institución anfitriona para visitar amigos o familiares mientras se encuentren en los Estados Unidos. Cualquier violación de las leyes de la institución anfitriona, leyes locales, estatales o federales significará el fin del programa para el participante infractor. Los participantes deben sujetarse a estos requisitos y condiciones para postularse. REQUISITOS Los candidatos deberán cumplir con los siguientes criterios para postular:  Tener ciudadanía ecuatoriana  Tener entre 18 y 25 años de edad  Ser estudiante de una universidad ecuatoriana  Tener conocimiento intermedio o avanzado del idioma inglés tanto hablado como escrito  Demostrar cualidades de liderazgo y potencial en sus actividades en su universidad y en la comunidad, estar involucrado en proyectos de voluntariado y tener responsabilidad social deberán adjuntar una explicación de las actividades comunitarias y un certificado que avale dichas participaciones  Comprometerse a retornar a la universidad una vez concluido el programa  Pertenecer a una familia cuyos ingresos sean medios o bajos  Se dará preferencia a los candidatos que no hayan viajado al extranjero antes.
