Books will be collected at the beginning of the year to check your answers within the novel. 1. Underline all vocabulary words. 2. Highlight SIX metaphors with a YELLOW highlighter. After reading the chapter “Riddles in the Dark”, write one of your favorite riddles or create one of your own. 5. After reading the chapter “Flies and Spiders”, draw a picture of one of the scenes from the chapter on page 170. 6. After reading the chapter “The Clouds Burst”, write your prediction for the end of the journey on page 287 in about two-three complete sentences. Reminders: Metaphor: comparing to things WITHOUT using like or as (is, are, was). Simile: comparing to unlike things using LIKE or AS. Packet: You will need to complete your vocabulary definitions and chapter summaries on a separate sheet of paper. It may be typed, however if you complete it on loose leaf paper make sure all the perforations are removed. STAPLE YOUR PACKET BEFORE TURNING IT IN. Make sure each section is properly labeled with its chapter title and number. 1. Summaries must be in 5-7 complete sentences. 2. Vocabulary should be numbered. a.
