EFIA Print Awards 2016 Entry Form Celebrating the Ver y Best of the Flexographic Print Industry

The EFIA Annual Print Awards competition offers participating companies the opportunity to gain public recognition of their achievements and demonstrate the outstanding degree of excellence the flexographic printing process has achieved in 2015/2016. Categories

Print Classes

LINE/SCREEN Any screen printing including tints, mezzotints, line tone or any other special effect with / without line work

• FLEXO PRINT ON PAPER - Narrow (up to 500mm) - Medium (500 - 1000mm) - Wide (1000mm - 1900mm) - Super wide web (over 1900mm)

PROCESS WITH/ WITHOUT LINEWORK Minimum of 3 process colours with or without an additional colour to produce a picture

• FLEXO PRINT ON FILM - Narrow (up to 500mm) - Medium (500 - 850mm) - Wide (850mm - 1500mm) - Super wide web (over 1500mm)

• CORRUGATED POST PRINT - Coated - Uncoated • POST PRINT ON FOLDER GLUERS - Coated - Uncoated BEST IN SHOW This top award will be selected from the Gold winners of all the Print Classes

Special Classes SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING & PRODUCT INNOVATION AWARD This Award is given to the Company (printer, brand or any other company in the flexo sector) who can demonstrate a commitment to leading edge sustainable production and manufacturing efficiency. For example Make ready reductions, Speed achievements, Adoption of lean manufacturing techniques, Clean & efficient energy consumption, Effective energy & resources management, Recycling & plant waste management, Air, Noise or Water Management, Carbon Footprint reductions, Direct & indirect greenhouse gas emission reductions or Initiatives to mitigate environmental impacts of products and services. A 500 word submission supported by relevant data is required. This is awarded to the company who has delivered flexo printed pack designs that deliver new market standards in one or more of the following criteria:Responsible and clever use of sustainable materials, New or innovative use of recycled materials, Reduction in packed product waste, Packs showing materials usage reduction (lightweighting), Improved pack recyclability, Pack carbon footprint reduction or Pack compostability/ biodegradability. Please submit 3 samples together with an explanation for the judges on which of the above criteria they fulfil.

OUTSTANDING TECHNICAL INNOVATION There will be 2 Awards for innovation one for printers and one for suppliers. Printers are invited to submit entries that show outstanding innovation in flexography. Suppliers are invited to submit entries that assist the flexo process in terms of consistency, repeatability, sustainability or improved productivity. USE OF FLEXO FOR BRANDS An award will be given for demonstrating a successful move from gravure or litho to flexo for a brand. USE OF FLEXO IN A COMBINATION PRINT This award will be given to a print which demonstrates achieving print quality through a successful or innovative use of flexography in combination with another print process. STUDENT OF THE YEAR This is given to the student who has demonstrated the highest level of progress on the EFIA Continuous Professional Development Programme. REPRO COMPANY OF THE YEAR This is awarded to the company whose repro helped produce the largest number of awards. SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR Printers will be asked to nominate a supplier of the year via email with criteria outlined by the Board of EFIA.

CUSTOMER EXCELLENCE AWARD This award will be given to the company that can demonstrate an outstanding level of customer service. A submission of 500 words or less is required supported by relevant data on training, what is measured and how it is measured, what approach is used and how the customer service team is integrated into the rest of the business and details on any specific challenges faced. BEST INTERNATIONAL PRINT The judges will choose the best international print out of all of the international entries. BEST CREATIVE USE OF THE FLEXOGRAPHIC PROCESS Use of complementary primary and secondary packaging, innovative use of special inks/ coatings or special designs.

Entering Multiple Categories: For multiple categories a print is required per category as well as £5 supplementary charge. For members the cost is first entry free and subsequent entries £45+VAT for one entry or 3 entries for £100+VAT. For non-members £75+VAT per entry or 3 entries for £180+VAT.

Awards

Judging Criteria

All categories within each class or subclass are eligible to receive a gold, silver, bronze or highly commended award at the discretion of the judges. The acceptance of an entry in a particular class will not oblige the judges to make an award in that class.

Prints will be judged by a team of expert judges. They will determine the winning prints by considering the overall level of execution of the print and the degree of difficulty of the print. Points will be added for the inclusion of a control strip on the print.

Rules

Judging will take place in January 2016

1. All entries must be produced POST PRINT AND POST PRINT ON FOLDER GLUERS during 2015. 2. The Association reserves the right to use the entries for publicity, promotional or educational purposes. 3. Entering companies will be responsible for obtaining the permission of their customers before submitting their prints. EFIA cannot accept responsibility for entries submitted. 4. When a range is submitted as one entry, one fault on one of the prints will disqualify the whole entry. 5. Each entering company may submit any number of entries for any one classification. If they wish their entry to be submitted in a Special Classification as well they must make this clear on the entry form. Entries submitted as a family of prints will be treated as one entry, unless otherwise requested. 6. Points will be awarded for the inclusion of the control strip.

- A printed sheet sample is required per category entered. - Die cut sheets must include registration marks & control strips or should be supplied as printed sheet. - Cad cut samples will not be judged. WEB - All web printed materials should contain 5 metres in untrimmed form. Pre print entries should contain at least 3 consecutive repeats, but on very large repeats 2 is sufficient. - REELS SLIT OUT OF LINE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. THE ENTRY MUST CLEARLY DEMONSTRATE THAT ONE PARTICULAR PART OF THE WEB HAS NOT BEEN SELECTED.
