Company History 1980’s: Scientists at the DLR (German Space Agency) develop the “Control Ball”, a hollow ball with integrated 6-degrees-of-freedom force / torque sensor for controlling robotic arms. 1990’s: The Control Ball is used for the first time on NASA’s Space Shuttle Columbia. Various companies including LogiCAD 3D and Labtec license the Control Ball technology and introduce commercial products.
2000’s: 3Dconnexion® is formed by a merger of Labtec and LogiCAD 3D. 2005: SpacePilot® is launched, establishing a new benchmark for professional 3D navigation solutions. 2006: SpaceExplorer® and SpaceNavigator® (the first sub £/$100 € 3D mouse) are launched, leading to a rapid acceleration of 3D mouse penetration. 2009: SpacePilot Pro is introduced, a new flagship product featuring the most advanced set of features ever. 2011: 3Dconnexion announces the shipment of its 1 millionth 3D mouse and introduces SpaceMouse® Pro, setting a new standard for professional features ease-of-use and comfort. 2013: 3Dconnexion announces SpaceMouse Wireless, the world’s first wireless 3D mouse.

Superior 3D Navigation Without a 3D mouse, users rely on their 2D mouse & keyboard to position digital content. While doing this, the 2D mouse cannot do anything else, such as picking menu items or parts of the model. This “stop-start” way of working is inefficient and unnecessary.

Two Hands are better than one! Take the water bottle challenge!
Faster, More Comfortable Design • A 3D mouse is used together with a traditional mouse engaging both hands into a balanced and cooperative work style. •
One hand engages the 3D mouse to position the model.
•
The other hand uses the traditional mouse to edit the model or select menu items.
• It’s a more efficient and comfortable way to work.
“Our experience is that people are surprised how much more they can achieve with their CAD software when using a 3D mouse”. Petr Rešl Head of Process and System Integration – Product Development Skoda Auto

What is a 3D mouse? A 3D Mouse =Two Hands!! (Used in 2D and 3D) Pan, Zoom, Rotate Keyboard Commands
Select, Edit, Draw Menu Commands 50% Less
Improve Error Detection 21% Faster Design Time
Mouse movement 1. Reduce trips to the keyboard 2. Provide single click access to powerful commands buried deep inside menus

Reducing the Risk of RSI 77% of CAD users surveyed reported mild to severe pain when using CAD software1
Non-3D mouse users have been recorded to perform >5,000 mouse 2D mouse clicks per day and move the 2D mouse up to 1km per week! This can place too much strain on one hand, leading to a risk of repetitive strain injuries (RSI).
