Kinder Orientation Program

Next week is the last week for borrowing so that a stocktake can begin. Please help your children return their books promptly.

Last week we held a very successful Parent Information Night for those Kindergarten families commencing in 2017.

Home readers are back to class teachers in Week 9.

This week is the first of three Kindergarten Orientation visits for students starting in 2017. The first two sessions will commence at 9:15 and will finish at 10:15. For the final session our new Kinders will join the rest of the school for recess so this session will commence at 9:15 but won’t finish until 11:10.

Our playgroup and 2017 Kindergarten visited the library last week to see what happens in there. Finally, if there are any parents around with a little time to spare on Fridays I would appreciate a little help with beginning the stocktaking process and book shelves. Times on Friday where help would be most beneficial are 9-10am and 2-3pm. Mrs Turner Lower Mountains Services Christmas Hamper Appeal 2016 The community services in the lower mountains are combining again this year to provide Christmas food and gift hampers to families in the Blue Mountains who are experiencing financial hardships.

If there are any questions regarding our Kindergarten Orientation program please contact the school. Payment Reminder For those families who are making payments for school programs and/or costs, please remember that these payments should be finalised by this Friday 18th November. Please contact the school if there are any problems. Year 6 Surveying

In 2015 they were able to provide in excess of over 170 hampers to local families needing support, many of whom had never asked for help before. To provide these hampers each year they rely solely on donated food and gifts. This year Gateway Services expects to provide 180+ hampers for local families.

Between now and the end of the year our Year 6 students will be helping the school with its end of year surveys.

To help support this venture, our school will be collecting food items that families wish to donate. All donated items should be brought to the school office where it will be stored until collection day. All donated items need to be at school by Friday 2nd December.

If approached by a student, please help them out by answering the questions they will ask – it will only take a few minutes.

Suggested food items include 1L juice, tinned food (ham, beetroot, carrots, corn, fruit salad, peaches, peas, pineapple, tuna, etc), biscuits (crackers, shortbread, sweet), cake mixes, chips, coffee (50g jars), cordial, UHT cream and milk, gravy, jelly packets, lollies, plum pudding, seasoned stuffing, tea bags, pasta, toiletries and rice.

Excellence, Opportunity, Care and Success

On selected afternoons they will come out prior to the end of the school day and ask parents waiting to pick up their children a few questions.

Lower Blue Mountains Drama Ensemble Attached to the newsletter is the note sent home regarding the Lower Blue Mountains Drama Ensemble for Years 5-8 in 2017. If interested please follow the directions for auditioning. The auditions will be held next Tuesday 22nd November, at Blaxland High.

What’s On In November Saturday 19 November (8:00pm – 10:00pm) Gravity (and Wonder) at Penrith Observatory

Changes have been made to the way extended family trips or holidays taken during the school term are recorded. From 2015, a certificate of exemption is no longer issued for such trips and the days will be counted as absences. Obviously, special circumstances do arise from time to time and will be looked at when they occur.

Join us for answers and more in our special Gravity (and Wonder) event in association with the Penrith Regional Gallery and The Lewers Bequest.

If a student has high absenteeism during the school year a referral will be made to the Home School Liaison Officer.

Evening includes presentation, 3D movie, tour of the dome, and 0.6m telescope and telescope viewing (weather permitting).

If there are any questions regarding school attendance please contact Mr Giles.

Have you ever wondered about gravity? What is this invisible force that stops us flying off into space as our plant rotates? How does the Moon stay in orbit around Earth? Why is the gravity of a black hole so strong?

Lower Blue Mountains Learning Community Middle Years Drama Ensemble 2017 Ensemble AUDITIONS The 2016 Middle Years Drama Ensemble was a great success with much fun, learning and excitement to be had! The ensemble performed at Blaxland High School to an enthusiastic audience in term 3 this year. So, what is the ensemble all about? The ensemble is made up of students from local schools in years 5-8 who have a passion for drama, and who display excellent drama skills. We meet after school once a week in terms 1 - 3 (and for the first few weeks of term 4, IF we gain a place in the State Drama Festival). In 2017 our ensemble day will be Tuesdays, from 3.30-4.30pm. The ensemble is directed by Ms Paula Buttenshaw (Teacher at Lapstone Public School) and Mr Thomas Jauncey (Drama Teacher at Blaxland High School). In addition, there may be a couple of extra weekend rehearsals close to audition dates. Next year’s ensemble is looking to be even bigger and better!
