Serving Delaware and Chester Counties
AND
AWARDS
S C H O L A R S H I P S A N D AWA R D S P R O M O T E S T U D E N T S U C C E S S DCCC is the center of educational opportunity in Delaware and Chester Counties. Students find success through associate degree and certificate programs, a clear-cut course to a bachelor's degree, career advancement opportunities or personal fulfillment. With locations throughout Delaware and Chester Counties, the College serves more than 28,000 students annually.
Delaware County Community College Delaware County Community College Educational Foundation's primary mission is to support students. The Foundation's commitment to student success is evident from the many scholarships and awards described in these pages. Eligibility criteria are established by the donors themselves. While academic merit and financial need are the most common criteria, other factors frequently considered are academic major, geographical location or special circumstances, such as “mature women” or “part-time students.” All students are encouraged to review eligibility requirements and to apply as directed. The Foundation also provides awards for faculty, alumni, students and staff members based on teaching performance, professional accomplishments, academic achievements and other measures.

ANNUAL
DINNER
Dollars for Scholars The Foundation hosts an annual dinner in fall to recognize the scholarship donors and student recipients. Donors are applauded for their generosity and students for their accomplishments. Much more than “Shaquille O’Neal’s mom,” keynote speaker Lucille O’Neal shared her life story candidly—and often humorously—in her book Walk Like You Have Somewhere to Go as well as in her remarks.Touching on her years of spiritual unrest and mental welfare, she discussed her struggles and disappointments against the backdrop of her sweetest memories and proudest accomplishments. After 56 years, O’Neal has gained the wisdom to recognize her wrongs and guide other women down a different path. Her story was proof that it’s never too late for a new beginning. In 1997, O’Neal fulfilled her longtime dream of going back to school and graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in business. Her message was inspiring and relevant to the audience.
Student speakers Djakamadi Kaba and Marybeth Hamilton enjoy a private moment with Lucille O’Neal. Kaba won the Nazira Simone Obeid Scholarship and Hamilton won the David’s Bridal Scholarship.
10
Foundation Board Chair Don Soslow welcomes guests to the dinner.
Wayne Kightlinger, one of three student speakers, thanked all donors on behalf of fellow students and shared his personal journey in pursuing a college education. Djakamadi Kaba shares a hug with Rose Obeid and husband James Brown, donors to the Nazira Simone Obeid Scholarship. Obeid is a member of the College ESL faculty.
