The Petersfield Museum Petersfield Museum follows the social history of Petersfield and the surrounding villages from the Bronze Age right up to the present day. The collection consists of objects, photographs, oral history recordings, books, maps and historical documents. The exhibits look at the social, industrial, domestic and agricultural history of the area and how it has developed over time.

Our education programme

Last year was a fantastic year for the Museum’s education service. We organised school trips, in school workshops, loan boxes, object handling sessions, Takeover Day and various other events which saw us work with more than 800 children from the local area since September 2012. This year we hope to build on this success and have strengthened our offer once more with the introduction of new workshops and loan boxes. New topics include ‘The First World War’, ‘Every picture tells a story’ and ‘Buriton: A day at the chalk pits and lime works’. As always our school programme links closely to the National Curriculum and gives pupils a unique opportunity to get ‘hands on’ with real and replica items in a fun and engaging way. We believe we have something to offer everyone and our services are detailed in this brochure. All our services can be tailor-made to suit the individual needs of your group and to accommodate different age groups. For more information, please contact Amanda, education and outreach officer, on 01730260756 or e-mail [email protected]

The Flora Twort Gallery The Flora Twort Gallery houses the work of Flora Twort, an artist inspired by the local area and its people. A fantastic range of sketches, watercolours and prints can be viewed. The gallery also exhibits the Bedales costume collection, which consists of pieces dating from the 1720’s. A selection of our collections are shown each year and changed annually.

Unique opportunities for schools

There are several events coming up this year that we think will be excellent opportunities for schools to take part in something unique: Interfaith week – (17th - 23rd November). We will be celebrating interfaith week by holding a special event in Petersfield that will provide schools, as well as the public, the opportunity to meet people from different faiths, ask them questions and celebrate the diversity of Petersfield’s religious community. Takeover Day – Takeover day takes place on Friday 22nd November and allows local children the exciting opportunity of helping staff at a local organisation. Petersfield Museum is looking for a school that would like to help us run the Museum for the day. If you are interested in taking part in either of these events, please contact Amanda.
