A New Start – A Bright Future

Land use Plan Pilot Project Only First Nation in Ontario to be selected for Pilot Project by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada. BNA is one of eight communities from across Canada. Objectives, build the foundations for land-based economic development for: • Community engagement for future land use decisions • First Nation community well-being and economic development • The creation of a land management toolkit (land use planning, legal surveys, law making)

First Nations Land Management Act The Act is federal law which provides First Nations the authority to develop laws in relations to reserve lands. Greatly improves efficiently of Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek to direct lands and economic development from 2-years in Aboriginal Affairs hands to 2-weeks in BNA hands. The FNLMA will allow BNA the authority over reserve lands, natural resources and revenues on its reserve land base. The FNLMA removes the barriers to economic development that FN’s typically experience under the archaic provisions under the Indian Act. http://www.ainc-inac.gc.ca/br/mrp/ip/ipn8-eng.asp
