Colors opposit e one another on the color wheel ar e called con~lementary color s . Thus to make re d less bri ght a small p ortion of g re en is wixed with it~ The dull soft colors are the mos t restful, beau t i ful, and denote refinement. In a p icture fnune t h is is very i~ort ant as the fr a-me should n ot be more conspicuous than the p icture, rathe r it should fo rm a rest space between the p icture and the wall. Dire ctions for Mixing the Colors for the Frames Brown - · Fo r toning the g old. Squeeze fro m the tube about two i n ches of the VanDy;re -Drown in a small dish. Squeeze one inch of the flake wh it e , add 1 t easpoon of t urpen tine. Mix to g ether thoroly. Brush on the frame usi ng long swe eping strokes . Gr een - Us e about one inch of new clue aiJ.d one-half inch yellow and onehalf i n ch of fl ake whi te. r,lix well and add red to d'.lll the g reen. Ma'.ce this match the blue g re en in pictu re of Spring by Cor ot. Red - This is to match the red scarf in the picture of Madame LeBrun and Daughter. Squeeze out from the tube about one inch of vermilion and one eighth inch of chrome y ellow and one-half inch of flake wh it e . Mix well and ad d a b rush full of g re en. Add gre en until the r ed is quite dull. These col or s c a-'1 be use rl f or most of the pictures by s light variations. Remember that dull colors are most r est ful and look bri ghter when added to t he n icture frame. Re,iuvenati lli!. Old Picture Frames old , wide g old picture frames may be t aken apart and r efini shed by the same meth od used for coloring of these new frames. Some frai1J.es that are r;J. a de of wood may be stained with a wood stain, then oiled and we.xed. Appl y several coats of boile d 1 inseed oil rubbed i n with powdered pumice stone . Moisten s tone with oil and rub v~ g orous ly. ~~any
