1. Logging in to the app (and logging out) You don’t need to log in to the app in order to use it. However you do need to log in in order to: 1. download a purchase from eBooks.com 2. access the online store 3. create and use collections 4. backup your annotations (bookmarks, notes, highlights) on to our online backup server. We recommend staying logged in to the app at all times. You don’t have to be connected to the internet to remain logged in, but if you log out of the app you will need an internet connection to log back in.

1.1 Logging in to the app Step 1: Launch the app & press the login icon Press the login icon in the top left corner to bring up the login box

Step 2: Enter your ebooks.com username & password and tap Login button If you have not previously created an account you can do so by tapping “No account yet? Register please.”

1.2 Logging out of the app We recommend staying logged in to the app at all times. But you may want to log out if for instance you have multiple people using one device. (i.e. a family tablet and each family member has their own bookshelf)

Step 1: Launch the app & press the menu icon

Step 2: Press Logout, then confirm by pressing OK

2. Downloading your purchase So you have made a purchase and want to know how to download it to the app. In these instructions we are going to assume you have launched the app on your Android device and logged in. If you haven’t already done this please follow the steps detailed in 1.1 Logging in to the app, then return to this section.

Step 1: Scroll down to the book you wish to download and tap the cover

Step 2: Tap Download to begin download of the book

Step 3: Once the download finishes, the book will open and paginate Please wait for pagination to reach 100% before reading your book. If it gets stuck or doesn’t complete, please exit the book and reopen it.

3. Reading your book / using the in-book options menu When you have a book open the controls are simple. 1. Tap the right side of the screen to turn forward a page 2. Tap the left side of the screen to turn backward a page 3. Tap the middle of the screen to bring up the menu Note you can also swipe your finger from right to left to turn the page when reading an EPUB, or swipe bottom to top to turn the page when reading a PDF.

Once you have opened the menu you have multiple options across the top of the screen: 1. Add a bookmark 2. Add a note 3. Highlight text Along the bottom of the screen you have the menu bar. You can swipe to scroll through the options, or press the next arrow (4). There is also a slide bar where you can quickly press and drag the slider to jump to any page in your book (5).

In the menu on the bottom of the screen are multiple options: 1. Toggle Day or Night mode 2. Toggle rotation lock on/off. When rotation lock is off, when you rotate your device the display will change from portrait to landscape, or vice versa 3. Exit the current book and return to your bookshelf 4. View the table of contents 5. View a list of all the bookmarks, notes and text highlights created inside this book 6. Adjust the brightness 7. Preferences. For changing font type, text color, background color and device volume button functionality 8. Increase font size. For PDF ebooks the symbol is just (+) and zooms in instead 9. Decrease font size. For PDF ebooks the symbol is just (-) and zooms out instead 10. Search within the entire text of the book 11. Share menu: twitter, facebook, google+ and email

4. Adding more books to your bookshelf There are multiple ways to add new books to your bookshelf. You can either 1. Buy and download books from the eBooks.com website (including a selection of free ebooks) 2. Import books that are already stored on your device in either internal memory, or SD card 3. Download PDF or EPUB files directly from the internet and open them in Ebook Reader Note that in order to import your own ebooks or download books from the internet, the files need to be DRM-free and either EPUB or PDF format.

4.1 Via the eBooks.com store In these instructions we are going to assume you have launched the app on your Android device and logged in. If you haven’t already done this please follow the steps detailed in 1.1 Logging in to the

app, then return to this section. Step 1: Press the shopping cart icon

Step 2: Find the book you are after Once the store opens there are multiple ways to find the book you are after. 1. Browse the bestsellers 2. Use Jump to + to browse each subject area (including the free ebooks). It also gives access to your account page and shopping cart 3. Use the search bar to look for a specific book by title, author or ISBN 4. Or you can return to your bookshelf

Step 3: Press BUY NOW button and complete your purchase. Once the purchase is complete you can return to your bookshelf and download the book by following the steps detailed in 2 Downloading your purchase.

4.2 Importing your own ebooks If your ebooks are not already stored on your device then the first step is to transfer them across. Normally if they are on your computer this involves plugging your device in to your computer using the cable that came with your device and moving the book files on to the internal memory or SD card. As devices can vary greatly instructions for this step are not included, but if you do need assistance please contact our support team. Details are in 7 Further help and assistance. Note that in order to import your own ebooks the files need to be DRM-free and either EPUB or PDF format. Now assuming the files are on your device we will continue the instructions:

Step 1: Launch the app & press the menu icon

Step 2: Press Import Books

Step 3: Press the menu icon, then All books All books means the app will search your devices memory and display all books possible to import, both PDF and EPUB.

Step 4: Select the books you want to import, then press Import

You can select 1 book, or as many as you like. If you want to import all books, just press the to highlight them all.

Step 5: Return to bookshelf and start reading

4.3 Downloading from the web Many websites offer free ebooks available to download. Or many website offer reports and other documents in PDFs. Using Ebook Reader you can download these files directly from your browser to Ebook Reader. Note that in order to download books from the internet the files need to be DRM-free and either EPUB or PDF format.

Step 1: Launch your web browser and navigate to your website of choice

Step 2: Press the download link to initiate download

Step 3: Press Ebook Reader, then press Just once Or press Always if you want to always use Ebook Reader to open this file type.

5. Managing collections Creating collections is a good way of organising and grouping your books. Please note you need to be logged in to the app to access the collection menu.

5.1 Creating a collection Step 1: Launch the app, press the collections icon, then Manage collections

Step 2: Add a new collection 1. Press the new collection button 2. Enter the collection name of your choice (e.g. Young Adult Fiction, History textbooks, Autobiographies, Holiday reads, Vampire romance, Book club) 3. Press Save 4. Press the back button to return to your bookshelf

5.2 Adding or removing books from a collection Step 1: Press the collections icon, then select the collection

Step 2: Select the books to add/remove to this collection 1. Press the edit collection icon 2. Tap each book you want to add to the collection, so the green tick is showing 3. Tap any book you want to remove from the collection, so the green tick is removed from the cover 4. Press the edit collection icon again to save your changes Note that pressing the X for a book will delete the book from the device (not just the collection)

5.3 Deleting a collection Step 1: Launch the app, press the collections icon, then Manage collections

Step 2: Press the X icon, then OK, then the back icon

6. Deleting or re-downloading a book Deleting books can create more space on your device. If they are in your eBooks.com account they can always be re-downloaded. Or if you are having trouble with a book, re-downloading the file may help resolve the problem.

Step 1: Press and hold the book cover you wish to delete / redownload

Step 2: Select Re-download, or Remove from shelf
