TARGET AUDIENCE The 47th Annual Meeting of the Eastern Orthopaedic Association has been developed primarily for orthopaedic and trauma surgeons. CME ACCREDITATION This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Eastern Orthopaedic Association. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. President's Message Geoffrey H. Westrich, MD Dear Colleagues, Our 47th Annual Meeting of the Eastern Orthopedic Association will take place in New Orleans at The Ritz-Carton Hotel from Thursday, October 20th to Saturday, October 22nd, 2016. The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans truly sets the bar for luxury hotels and is located in the French Quarter near the famous Bourbon Street. This hotel features a Southern ambience, luxurious, suites, a stunning spa, and well-designed conference space for our meeting. This is the first time that the Eastern Orthopedic Association will host its Annual Meeting in the city of New Orleans which is well known for the enticing scent of hearty gumbo or jambalaya while listening to the energizing beat of a jazz band. The RitzCarlton is only a 30-minute drive from New Orleans International Airport (MSY). Our scientific program, carefully planned by Dr. Marc J. Levine, Program Chair and the Program Committee, is already well underway with excellent, state-of-the-art symposia and cutting edge podium and poster presentations. Because our meeting is in New Orleans, we have asked our fellow colleagues from LSU, Tulane, and Ochsner programs to join us. In addition, the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society will also be attending. Dr. Thomas Sculco will be my Presidential Guest Speaker and was the former Surgeon-inChief of Hospital for Special Surgery and is the current President of the Knee Society. I know his lecture will be insightful and enlightening. Mr. James Carville, a well know political commentator and media personality, will be the Howard Steel Lecturer. Since our meeting is just weeks before the presidential election, I know his talk and question/answer session will be very entertaining and timely. In addition, we will be running a Resident Review Course led by Dr. Frank J. Frassica, an expert in this area, on Thursday afternoon that will be a great prep for the OITE exam that follows a few weeks later. Our Welcome Reception on Thursday evening, October 20th, will be held at Mardi Gras World which is a main tourist attraction located on the Mississippi River. We will have an opportunity to tour the working warehouse where floats are made for the Mardi Gras parades while listening to New Orleans jazz and eating various food native to New Orleans such as gumbo, shrimp etouffee, and jambalaya! It is an evening you surely don’t want to miss. My wife, Ellen, and the Spouse Committee, have been working tirelessly to plan a great social program, so please plan on bringing your family. Presidential Guest Speaker Thomas P. Sculco, MD EOA is pleased to announce that Dr. Thomas P. Sculco, MD is the 2016 Presidential Guest Speaker. Dr. Sculco is currently Surgeon-in-Chief Emeritus of Hospital for Special Surgery and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Sculco’s research interests are currently centered on improvements in surgical technique and preventing failure of hip and knee implants. In addition to receiving many prestigious awards for his work, including the Otto Aufranc and Charnley Awards from the Hip Society and the Arthritis Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Sculco’s body of published works includes over 350 papers, 75 chapters, three books on orthopedic surgery and the surgical treatment of arthritis and he has presented over 750 papers. Dr. Sculco founded the International Society of Orthopaedic Centers and served as Executive Director for 10 years. He also founded the VA Orthopaedic Society and was a founding member of the Knee Society and is President this year. Dr. Sculco served on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Arthritis Foundation. He presently serves on the Board of Directors of Carnegie Hall. Dr. Sculco was the honoree at the Columbus Day Parade in 2011. He is a Board Member of OREF and the Robert Gladden Society.

Howard Steel Lecturer James Carville EOA is pleased to welcome James Carville as the 2016 Howard Steel Lecturer. James “The Ragin’ Cajun” Carville is America's best-known political consultant. His long list of electoral successes evidences a knack for steering overlooked campaigns to unexpected landslide victories and for re-making political underdogs into upset winners. In recent years, Carville has not been a paid political consultant for any domestic politicians or candidates for office, instead focusing on campaigns in more than 20 countries around the globe, including leading Ehud Barak to victory in his campaign to become the Prime Minister of Israel in 1999. Carville is also a best-selling author, actor, producer, talk-show host, speaker and restaurateur. He serves as a Professor of Practice at Tulane University in New Orleans, where he lives with his wife Mary Matalin and their two daughters.

Special Guest Speaker Congressman Thomas E. Price, MD Congressman Tom Price was first elected to represent Georgia’s 6th district in November 2004. Prior to going to Washington, Price served four terms in the Georgia State Senate – two as Minority Whip. For nearly twenty years, Rep. Price worked in private practice as an orthopaedic surgeon. Before coming to Washington he returned to Emory University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor and Medical Director of the Orthopedic Clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, teaching resident doctors in training. Congressman Price and his wife, Elizabeth, reside in Roswell, GA. They have one son.

Improve their diagnostic, treatment and technical skills in the management of orthopaedic afflictions by assimilation of scientific advances. 2. Discuss basic science paradigms as they relate to treatment advances. 3. Understand some of the basic principals in practice management. 4. Critically assess emerging trends in orthopedic medicine and evaluate their evidence basis. Cooking Demo at Crescent City Cooks Using fresh and local ingredients, we create dishes that any home chef can master. When you take a class, you will be invited into the kitchen to 6:15 pm – 11:00 pm share recipes and experiences. The class offers an engaging conversation about New Orleans food, traditions, and culture. The presentation concludes with a full meal served in three courses: Shrimp Creole, Chicken Fricassee, and Bread Pudding. Price: $31 per person (min. 6 people)

6:15 pm – 11:00 pm Eco Swamp Tour Tour the Honey Island Swamp by boat and experience the diverse Pearl River ecosystem up close. The knowledgeable tour guides will lead you down the river and teach you about the steps that are being taken to preserve the Pearl River. Fishing Fish one of the most exciting salt water estuaries in the world, near the city of New Orleans. It will be shallow water marsh fishing for redfish, and black

drum, great fighting fish. Includes box lunch, beverages, transportation and captain’s gratuity.

Jazz Reception & Founders’ Dinner Dance The evening begins with a lovely reception and music brought to you by the EOA Jazz Band. The band plays popular jazz tunes that will be enjoyed by all. Dinner will also be an event to remember with a delicious meal, good company, and dancing.

Kids’ Movie Party & Arts & Crafts While your parents are at the Founders’ Dinner, enjoy dinner and crafts or a movie with your friends. If younger than 5 years old,
