Copyright and Registration Original work is automatically protected under copyright as soon as it is recorded in a tangible form, including digital. Theses do not have to be registered through the U.S. Copyright Office for your work to be protected by copyright, but doing so places your claim to copyright on public record, which will allow you to pursue suit if your rights are infringed. It is also good practice to include a simple copyright notice (e.g., © 2009 Ahmed Hossem Mohamed Farag) on your document to notify those reading your thesis that it is protected by copyright law, and deter them from infringing on your copyright. For more information on copyright and to learn how to register visit the U.S. Copyright Office at http://www.copyright.gov/.
