Safari Lite™ wsb

sugar beet herbicide

Restrictions Safari Lite™ wsb must not be applied to any crop suffering from stress as a result of drought, water-logging, low temperatures, pest or disease attack, nutrient or lime deficiency or other factors affecting crop growth. Due to the high level of activity of the herbicide, special care must be taken to avoid damage by drift onto plants outside the target area, or onto surface water or ditches. Thorough cleansing of equipment is also very important. Do not apply more than four applications of products containing triflusulfuronmethyl per crop.

Following crops After applying Safari Lite™ wsb to a beet crop, only winter cereals should be sown in the same calendar year. Any crop may be sown or planted in the following spring (i.e. next calendar year).

Crop failure

In the event of crop failure for any reason, sow only beet within four months of application of Safari Lite™ wsb, provided this agrees with the recommendations of any partner product.

General information Safari Lite™ wsb contains two active substances with foliar and residual activity. When tank-mixed with a suitable herbicide partner it controls a wide range of broad-leaved weeds. It is most effective if applied when the weeds are small and actively growing. Good spray cover of weeds must be obtained. Susceptible plants cease growth almost immediately after application and symptoms can be seen about 5 to 10 days after application.

Directions for use Crops/varieties and timing

Safari Lite™ wsb can be used on all varieties of sugar beet. Safari Lite™ wsb should be applied when the first weeds have emerged and when the beet has reached the cotyledon stage. Subsequent applications of herbicides should be applied as new flushes of weeds emerge. Rate of use

Apply Safari Lite™ wsb at 280 g/ha (1 water soluble bag per hectare) in conjunction with a suitable herbicide tank-mix partner (see weed susceptibility table). Seed dressings

Safari Lite™ wsb may be used after any Approved seed dressing. Application

BEFORE USING SAFARI LITE™ wsb, SPRAYING EQUIPMENT MUST BE CLEAN AND FREE FROM CONTAMINATION WITH OTHER PESTICIDES. Overall application

Safari Lite™ wsb should be applied overall in 80-150 litres of water per hectare, using suitable equipment to give a FINE spray, as defined by BCPC. Good, even spray cover of the weeds is essential for best results. Care should be taken not to overlap spray swaths. Band application

Similar doses, water volumes and spray quality should be used as in overall application, but the area covered will be dependent upon the row spacing and bandwidth. Careful calibration is essential to achieve best results. Intervals

When Safari Lite™ wsb or its tank-mixes are used in sequences with recommended graminicides, a minimum 7-day interval should be observed between applications. A 14-day interval should elapse between the Safari Lite™ wsb treatment and tepraloxydim (Aramo).

Limit to number of applications

Safari Lite™ wsb can be applied to a sugar beet crop for a maximum of three times per crop. Do not apply more than four applications of any product containing triflusulfuronmethyl per crop. Weather

Avoid high light intensity (full sunlight) and high temperatures (above 21°C) on the day of spraying. Avoid periods of substantial day to night temperature changes or when frost is expected. Soil

Safari Lite™ wsb can be used on all soil types except sands, stony or gravely soils and on soils with more than 10% organic matter. Weed control may be reduced when soil conditions are very dry.

Resistance management When herbicides with the same mode of action are used repeatedly over several years in the same field, selection of resistant biotypes can take place. These can propagate and may become dominating. A weed species is considered resistant to a herbicide if it survives a correctly-applied treatment at the recommended dose. Development of resistance within a weed species can be avoided or delayed by alternating (or tank-mixing) with suitable products having a different mode of action.

Compatibility Refer to Compatibility appendix. Safari Lite™ wsb should be tank-mixed with other products to widen the spectrum of activity. Products should only be tank-mixed if each product can be applied within the manufacturer’s label recommendations and/or technical advice for its use. Dose rates and timings may be critical for these products. When Safari Lite™ wsb tank-mixes are used in sequence with graminicides, the minimum time interval should be observed between applications in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Mixing and sprayer clean out For full instructions on mixing and sprayer clean out please refer to the ‘GENERAL SPRAY APPLICATION’ guidance section and the All Clear® Extra entry within this guide.

Safari Lite wsb in sugar beet ™

Provided the products are legally registered in the UK for use in sugar beet, Safari Lite™ wsb can be tank-mixed with a wide range of approved herbicide partners and adjuvants. Products should only be tank-mixed if each product can be applied within the manufacturer’s label recommendations for use. In any tank-mix, with the exception of phenmedipham, add Safari Lite™ wsb to the spray tank first and ensure that it is fully dispersed before adding another partner product(s). If a partner product contains phenmedipham, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for mixing that product before adding Safari Lite™ wsb. When mixing adjuvants with Safari Lite™ wsb mixes, observe the guidelines on temperatures and stressed crops (see manual text). DuPont do not support the use of adjuvants until the sugar beet has reached the first pair of true leaves fully expanded stages and only then if suitable once the guidelines related to adjuvant use have been considered. • Please consult manufacturer for specific advice on product rates and appropriate growth stages. • Do not mix Safari Lite™ wsb with graminicides or insecticides. • When Safari Lite™ wsb is used in sequence with graminicides, a 7-day minimum time interval should be observed between applications.

in sugar beet

Du Pont (U.K.) Limited supports the physical compatibility and crop safety of all tank-mixes listed providing individual products are used according to their label. Do not use any tank-mix if the mixture cannot be applied within the recommendations for individual products or if specific tank-mix restrictions apply. Maintain constant agitation at all times. Please ensure you read the ‘Compatibility Notes’ section for further advice. Safari Lite™ wsb may be tank-mixed with one product in any column incorporating mixes up to the maximum of a single row of ticks providing the mixture can be applied within the label recommendations of all partners in the mix. If a box is left blank, then a product from that column group cannot be included in the tank-mix. For example, mix 1 would allow Safari Lite™ wsb + Betasana Trio SC.
