Southeast Region Cheer/Dance Championships MEMO TO: Advancing Head Cheer/Dance Coaches FROM: Jennifer Revels, Region Cheer & Dance Coordinator (RCDC)

Dear Coach/Coordinator & Team, CONGRATULATIONS!! You’re on your way to the Regional Championship and one step away from the National Championships! All your hard work and practice has earned you the right to compete for the title of Southeast Region Champion. We are so proud of you all!! Here are some things that you and your team will need to be aware of before you compete Thanksgiving weekend 2010: 1) There is an 11:00 PM curfew for all participants for their entire stay at the hotel. Any participant not in their room after 11:00 PM must be with a parent or rostered staff member. If they are not, they will not be permitted to compete. If their team has already competed, the SE Region Management Staff will determine the appropriate penalty. 2) All staff members must have a Pop Warner ID and be on the roster in order to enter the Arena with the team – no exceptions – including Association Coordinators. 3) If you have any participants that will not be able to compete, you must have an absentee form completed (including your ACDC & LCDC’s signature) and turned in at bookcheck the day before you compete (keep a copy in your book). 4) There will be a thorough book check the day before you compete. a. This is strictly for a team representative and the book, the team does not attend the book check. b. Copies of birth certificates must have the League stamp. c. If a child is determined to be ineligible (e.g. physical is too old, birth certificate has been falsified) the team will be disqualified and not permitted to compete at the Championships. d. If something was accidentally left at home and can be retrieved prior to the competition, the team will be permitted to compete once the item has been cleared. e. Double and Triple check your books and rosters to make sure that everything is in order 5) There will be the standard ‘weigh-in’ procedure for all teams when you arrive at the arena, pictures will be compared to the book. The form indicating the book check was performed and passed the night before must be in the book in order for the team to compete. 6) All participants must have a Pop Warner patch on the uniform. The patch may not be secured by straight, safety or any type of pin. 7) Fingernails, including artificial nails, shall be kept at a length appropriate for safe participation. The appropriate length for all members of a stunting squad means the nails are not visible beyond the fingers when viewed from the palm side of the hand. Please check your squad (this will be checked at weigh-in and nails will be clipped) 8) Hair – must be away from the face. Hair beads and ornaments that could injure the child’s head are prohibited 9) Bows/Ribbons should not interfere with the child’s vision i.e. they should not hang in the front of the face or in front of the eyes. Make sure the tails are the appropriate length. 10) Eyeglasses must be secured by a safety strap (not just in their hair). The safety strap may not be knotted or have beads on it and should fit the child’s head so that there isn’t

slack to get hands or feet caught. It should not be decorated, or it will be considered a prop which is a violation. Glitter, face paint, tattoos & finger nail polish are all prohibited. If a child has a ‘real’ tattoo, it must be covered with a bandage. Make-up IS permitted, but it is up to the Head Coach to use discretion and prevent the girls from appearing that it is face paint. Jewelry is prohibited, you may NOT put tape over earrings, they must be taken out. This includes rubber bands or ponytail holders around the wrist. We have in the past had teams receive a 5 pt penalty for having a rubber band around their wrist. a. Exceptions: religious or medical alert medals must be taped to the body underneath the clothes. Remind your squad that if they use pom-pons in the routine, that if they step on them, it is a 5 pt violation every time they step on them. a. If you bring pom pons out to the floor you must use them, or they will be considered a prop and you will receive a 5 pt penalty. The use of signs during competition is prohibited (except for Advanced teams only), they are considered props. Your fans may use small signs in the stands. a. Advanced teams must submit a prop approval form at least 2 weeks in advance for Region and National approval. The performance area is 54’ X 42’, any form of CHEERING, dancing, stunting, jumping and/or tumbling off of the mat is considered a violation. MAKE sure your squad practices keeping their routine confined to the 54’ X 42’ area. Remind your teams that they must ‘SPIRIT’ onto the floor, an organized entrance is subject to a 5 pt penalty. The overall time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds; your music may not exceed 90 seconds (1 min 30 secs). Please have someone double check your time on both. If you perform a skill above the category that you declared, you will receive a 5 pt penalty and the skill will not be judged. a. Example: Novice team has a tumbler do a running round off, back hand spring. This is the only tumbling they have in their routine; they would receive a 5 pt penalty for performing a skill outside the novice category and receive a 0 in the tumbling section of the score sheet because it cannot be judged as part of the routine.

Score sheets will be available to the Head Coach immediately following the competition. Please make sure that you have reviewed the rules and regulations regarding spirit squads and competition in the National Rule Book. Everyone works hard to prepare, we do NOT want anyone to violate the rules and be penalized. Good Luck to everyone and Thank You for your dedication and hard work!!! 

December, 2010 Re: Commuting to Nationals

Here are the final details regarding commuting to Nationals and those groups required to stay at a WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort Hotel. Only the following conferences may commute: Mid Florida, Timucua and Tampa. Any group that wishes to commute must complete the Disney Sports Waiver for each roster participant and coach. You will need to take the waivers to Celebrity Hall to receive your credentials. The fee is $20 per person to cover your credentials, which must be paid in cash or credit card at the Disney Sports Registration area at Celebrity Hall behind Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort. You must have credentials to enter ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Groups from these conferences may also elect to stay at a WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort Hotel per the criteria below. If they do, their credentials are included in the cost of their hotel. Teams/squads from all other SE conferences must stay at a WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort Hotel. They will also have to complete the Disney Sports Waivers. There are packages available for Florida groups for the hotel only starting at one-night only for about $50 per person (based on 4 people per room). These rates are for Disney’s All-Star Resorts. Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort are also available at $59 per person (based on 4 people per room). A one-night stay is all that is required. If you stay more than one night, the nights do not have to be consecutive. Admission credentials are included in the cost. Reservations must be booked through the Disney Sports Reservation number listed in the National package. Be sure to identify yourself as a Florida group. Other packages are also available that include WALT DISNEY WORLD® Theme Park Tickets. Pricing is available from Disney Sports Reservations. Please forward this information to your cheer coordinators and football directors and instruct your teams/squads to direct all inquiries through their conference officials. Thanks NO GROUPS ARE ALLOWED TO STAY AT HOTELS OTHER THAN WALT DISNEY WORLD® RESORT HOTEL PROPERTIES AT ANY TIME DURING CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK. VIOLATIONS WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.
