THIRD ACTIVITY – MY GIFTS Background The Three Kings brought many present to Baby Jesus. The present were gifts to the child king. In our lives we get many presents. Since we are born our relative give us presents in our birthdays, First Communions, weddings, anniversaries and other special occasions. The three kings day is celebrated as a second Christmas among the Latin American countries were children get a second round of present after Christmas Eve. The Three Kings were not expecting any reward except the happiness and satisfaction of contemplating the baby that they believed was going to be a king. We also get many presents. Some are present we desire. Sometimes we get truly disappointed because we do not get what we expect. In this activity we will examine our feelings and emotions when we receive and give presents to love ones.

Small Group Activities 1. Divide the clas in groups of four. 2. Students will share their lists of presents with the group. Share your feelings when you get a wanted present and compare them with your feelings when you get an unwanted gift.
3. Ask each group to write a list of reactions when they are faced with the following situations: o Reciben un regalo (get a present) o No reciben algo que querían (Get something they dont like) o Reciben un regalo sorpresa (surprise gift)
4. Each group shares in Spanish the reactions to the proposed gift receiving scenarios. Ideas are written on the board.
5. The class decides which reactions are the most common for each scenario. Future Activities The teacher can collect all the handouts and repeat the same activity but pretending that students are writing their birthday wish list. They can compare the changes in their likes and dislikes between during the year. It is a good opportunity to ask student to use “me siento” and express feelings. You can add other scenarios that do not involve gift giving like failing an exam, getting a bad grade, being called to the principal’s office. It is a great opportunity to get students to express their feelings using the target language.

TERCERA ACTIVIDAD – MIS REGALOS Historia Los Reyes Magos llegaron cargados de regalos donde se encontraba el Niño Jesús. Los presentes eran regalos para el Nuevo rey. En nuestra vida recibimos regalos para celebraciones especiales como nuestro cumpleaños, una boda, un bautizo o durante la Navidad o Hanukkah. Los regalos nos llenan de alegría porque nos hacen sentir el amor de nuestros seres queridos. Los Reyes Magos llegaron al pesebre para adorar el niño. No esperaban nada a cambio del presente. Sólo el poder admirar y contemplar al que según su fé se convertiría en su rey. Acaba de terminar la Navidad y Hanukkah. Hemos recibido muchos presentes. Varios de estos presentes son cosas que queríamos y que deseabamos recibir. Otros son cosas inesperadas que recibimos con alegría. Dar y recibir regalos es una tradición que nos permite demostrar nuestro cariño hacia los demás. En nuestra actividad vamos a mirar los regalos que recibimos y los que nos gustaría recibir.

Actividades en Grupos Pequeños 6. Divida a los alumnos en grupos de cuatro. 7. Los estudiantes en grupo comparten sus listas de regalos con la clase. También deben compartir como se siente al recibir un presente. Además la reacción que tienen cuando un no reciben un regalo. 8. Distribuya papel a cada grupo y pidale que hagan una lista de tres columnas donde se escribe como se sienten cuando: o Reciben un regalo o No reciben algo que querían o Reciben un regalo sorpresa 9. Cada grupo presenta en Español la lista con las tres columnas a la clase. Las ideas son colocadas en la pizarra.
10. La clase elige los sentimientos comunes que comparten cuando reciben regalos. Actividades Futuras El maestro puede recoger las listas y usarlas el año que sigue para comparar los gustos de los estudiantes. La misma actividad se puede repetir en dos o tres meses haciendo que los estudiantes se imaginen que la lista es para su cumpleaños. Puede hacer que comparen las dos listas y las reacciones que tienen cuando no reciben un regalo deseado. y el Español. Es importante que los estudiantes aprendan a expresar como se sienten y que incorporen la frase “me siento” en su vocabulario de clase.
