Role of Veterinarians in Disasters Conference

Training Opportunity

T

he Missouri Veterinarian Medical Association (MVMA), in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA), the University of Missouri Veterinarian School and MU Extension is providing a timely and unique educational opportunity for all interested members. This conference which is a combination of training workshops is schedule for May 19th (all day) and May 20th (until noon). The conference will include an overview of the National Incident Management System, the Incident Command System, breakouts on public health concerns, animal biosecurity issues and a client education package about the Pets Act of 2006. Additional topics include an overview of Missouri’s hazards, family preparedness and small business disaster planning. The workshops will be offered on the UMC campus and will provide experts in their field offering you their knowledge and insights into these critical issues. This set of short courses and topics will provide 5 hour of CME for participants. Attendees will also become credentialed to become a Volunteer Veterinarian Corps (Vet Corps) responder if needed by MDA or the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) in the event of an emergency. These classes are required for you to receive this credentialing. The target audience for this conference are members of the Volunteer Veterinarians Corps and those willing to become members. Please understand that full scholarships for this set of workshops are ONLY for current members of the Vet Corps, or those willing to join this group. Hotel rooms for Saturday night will be paid for the first 60 people enrolled plus lunch on the first day for all participants. Total capacity for this conference is 120 participants. A later Saturday morning start has been included to accommodate travel into Columbia.
