Executive summary The intention of this document is to describe the plans of the HAVEit consortium to disseminate and to exploit the research project results. This document consists of two parts: The public part “Section A” summarizes all scientific (peer reviewed) publications relating to the foreground of the project. Further, it includes a list of all dissemination activities (publications, conferences, workshops, websites, press releases, flyers, presentations, newsletters, posters etc.). “Section B” is confidential and summarizes applications for patents, trademarks, registered designs etc. Further, this part provides a description of all exploitable results including exploitation measures and time plan, potentially further required research activities and the expected impact.

Section A – Dissemination (public) In order to raise public awareness for highly automated driving, the HAVEit consortium defined a manifold of measures. To ensure comprehensive and appropriately targeted dissemination and exploitation activities, the project utilized a variety of communications channels. An interactive and frequently updated website (www.HAVEit-eu.org) is used as the primary dissemination channel to the public. Furthermore, several newsletters, brochures and information flyers, posters and press releases were produced within the frame of a dedicated work package on “dissemination and exploitation”. The key activities of this work package included: The development and maintenance of an attractive and recognizable project identity. A relevant logo for the project was designed and used in all project documents and communications. The development of a dissemination plan, which was updated several times with regard to the up-to-date results of the project, the current state of other activities and the target audiences, thereby allowing the plan to evolve with the project and the needs of its beneficiaries. The coordination of contacts with other relevant dissemination channels in the HAVEit environment. The performance of HAVEit achievements were communicated and discussed within open workshops with key experts and users from Europe, Asia (Japan, Korea) and from the US.

1

Dissemination in publications, conferences

The first version of the dissemination plan included in the Technical Annex mentioned the key dissemination measures agreed within the consortium. During the course of the project the dissemination plan was updated several times: Additional dissemination opportunities were suggested by the dissemination manager Dr. Angelos Amditis and – after agreement by the Steering Committee – implemented by all partners. The dissemination measures are summarized in the following two tables on the next pages.

HAVEit final event

The most important dissemination measure for HAVEit is represented by the Final Event. This event will take place on June 21-22, 2011 in Sweden near Gothenburg. In order to attract as many people as possible, save-the-date invitations were sent to more than 600 persons in October 2010. Beginning of April 2011, the final invitation was sent to more than 50 VIPs, more than 700 experts. In addition, we invited many journalists. Most of the invited persons are European countries, but we also invited relevant key stakeholders in the area of “highly automated driving” at international level, mainly from the US and Japan. Together with a personal invitation, we distributed a flyer with some key project information and the preliminary programme (see figures below). Thanks to the strong partner commitment to the project, we succeeded in getting very high level speakers for the morning sessions on both days, e.g. Juhani Jaaskelainen (EC, Head of Unit), Malin Persson (VTEC, CEO), Prof. Dr. Leohold (VW, President R&D), Dr. Rieth (Continental, Vice President).

The HAVEit Final event was a great success. We could welcome 270 guests (VIPs, experts and journalists). The event generated significant interest in TV and print media. Journalists from different magazines across Europe attended the dedicated journalists programme. To indicate the huge media interest in the event, the following table lists the overview of the press clipping report. The full and detailed press clipping report was provided to the EC in July.

Building user acceptance for Automated Driving

HAVEit tried to build user acceptance for automated driving by a couple of measures: The public was informed about HAVEit progress and achievements by regular dissemination measures (see descriptions in Table 2 above). A significant number of experts and journalists were invited for the final event (see section 2 above). User acceptance tests were undertaken at different project levels to take potential endusers into account: o

End-users were integrated during specification phase (user centred design). First system designs have been tested in SILAB simulator (WIVW) with potential endusers.

o

During the “mode selection and arbitration unit” development phase, assessment tests were performed with different users through driving simulators at DLR.

o

Within sub-project 5000 demonstration vehicles featuring highly automated driving applications were built. For each of these vehicles at least a basic version of the joint system was implemented. These vehicles were tested in public traffic, driven also by “normal” drivers (potential end-users).

These steps show that there was much effort through the entire course of the project to get a clear picture whether “normal” drivers understand the system and are able to operate it safely. Additionally, the drivers’ opinion about highly automated driving and their intention to buy and to use this system was assessed within the frame of simulator studies. Results of these studies were described in detail in several public deliverables (e.g. D33.1 – D33.6).

HAVEit

08.10.2011

Section B – Exploitation (confidential) One important goal of HAVEit concerning exploitation of project results was the creation of a sound and realistic roadmap for highly automated driving. Following measures have been defined: The consortium explored different options of automation, task repartition and interaction between driver and co-system. On that basis, we developed a migration strategy to migrate from early stages of technology and dissemination to future, more sophisticated automation and high levels of dissemination without running into technical, psychological or legal deadlocks. HAVEit addressed these issues by investigating prototyping demonstrators that represent different steps into the future: “trail blazer” rapid prototyping vehicle, X-by-wire vehicles, demonstrators built on PC technology up to an architecture migration demonstrator featuring HAVEit technology using state-of-the-art automotive ECU technology. The roadmap considers the improvement/integration of existing systems for gradual introduction of (highly) automated systems. A first version of such roadmap was presented in the Technical Annex. The following sections will present the situation at project end. In order to provide a clear picture, the consortium in the first step defined the exploitable results, in the second step, partners defined their exploitation strategies.
